Uploaded photo quality

by tiabunna Online Now Dec 19, 2006 at 5:41 PM

I'm finding that, when I upload photos to my pages, the result as seen in VT is lower in contrast, darker, and with a slight move toward green. I've added photos to another website without any visible changes and, as far as I can tell, when I email photos they look unchanged. Has anyone else noticed any similar changes to photos loaded in VT, or is it something to do with the colour settings in my computer/software?

No..it's not you...it's the scaling and photo handling. This will be notably improved in 2007.

Great, that's a relief, thank you G. I guess that leads to a supplementary question - will the photos already in the database come back to their original colour settings, or will the improvement apply only to new photos being loaded in VT?

I also don't see any changes between my uploaded pictures here and elsewhere. But on the other hand - all the technical glitches (apart from the recent forum accessibilities), like notice console and others, VTers describe here from time to time - I don't have or see. And I just have a normal computer, nothing special on it, and am IT dumb. G - what's the updates you are telling about ? This is unfair - watering our mouths and then don't say more :-(( (joke ! we are all patient)

Well, I've always been a bit more of a stickler for the images I upload, so I have typically resized them to 72 dpi and the appropriate sizes so the image handlers in VT shouldn't have to mess with the images at all. So like Mr. Onions, I've not seen too much of an issue with my pre-formatted images.

In the future you will be able to simply upload a tons of your image originals and we'll keep them all so that you can pick and choose them when you want to make tips and you will have original size, large, smaller and thumbnails. It will be quite similar to Flickr.

This will take place in 2 steps. Step 1. You will have a gallery of all the photos from your tips. They can be viewed by location or other keywords Step 2. Bulk upload of all you images A kind of media bucket from which you can choose to use in tips or travelogues or whatever. The media bucket is private. The gallery is public

:-))) Sounds pretty fantastic ! But, G, now that you are "here", I would like to ask another question that would "fit" to your explanation of private and public: would it be also possible at a point in time in the future to have our tips also in "2 steps" ? What I mean is: step 1: start writing, collecting info like websites or keywords we want to use for the text, upload pictures etc => it stays private; step 2: finish writing the final text => it goes public. In a way like a sketchbook. Example: my stupid Darmstadt page. I already have listed a lot of things I want to write about, but everyone can see them = the heading, and it gives a "break" in the reading. If I could hide them, add whatever websites etc, and only make them public when I'm done. (hope I did explain correctly :-) Thanks Ingrid
