Mick Jagger, Happy Birthday

by davidjo Online Now Jul 27, 2012 at 5:45 AM

Surely Mick has been with the Stones for 50 years and still performing. Anybody else know of a rock musician with the same band for 50 years?

Pink Floyd: founded 1965. Nick Mason, Roger Waters + Dave Gilmour (joined 1967) last performed in 2011. Would be brilliant if they were in the opening or closing Olympics ceremony. Bet they won't be though.

Maybe Paul McCartney will be there. A reporter said that he heard, "Hey Jude" being practiced at an Olympic site.

I clicked too soon, I was going to add that Carlos Santana has had his band, Santana, for 48 years and still going strong.

I think McCartney is pretty much a given at some point. And the Spice Girls are def in the closing ceremony..

Well, Macca was a bit of a shoe in and Floyd got a bit of a nod as well. It would have been nice if Ringo had turned up on drums or, better still, his son who is a far better drummer. Who was that on drums anyway? Happy birffffday Mick, not bad for a lad from Dartford or wherever. i hope I'm still rocking at that age. I am not sure if Carlos, wonderful musician as he is, qualifies. Not sure if there are any original band members still there. If it was just guys that had performed for that long, you would be looking at people like B.B King but again, it is hardly the same band he started with.

Yup, you can find a lot of musicians who've been doing gigs for 50 years but hardly any still with the same BAND for 50 years - and with half of the original members.
