Penang beats Singapore in my opinion and I'm going to test Bangkok next month.

Hi SL. I got quite excited when I saw your post because we plan to visit Penang in January. I have heard so many good things about Penang and it's all about food!! :o) ...btw, love your local 'Penangite' expression :o) Of course would would love to meet you and Winnie and I am sure that you will take us to the best foody hangouts :o) I would have to say that the Chilli Crabs in Singapore were great. Sherene (appleseed81) took us to a great little street cafe to experience this awesome dish. I believe that Penang has Baba Nyonya food? We were blown away by the taste twice in Melaka and are yet to find a better restaurant. So SL.... you have a big challenge to beat when we visit in January lol. :o) Don't know about Bangkok.

This is really funny. And i just noticed that the article has gotten 596 facebooks likes in less than a day so it's surely stirring up the minds. I'm gonna get a copy of the Star today to see if it's mentioned in the printed edition too. And for the food fight i am all in favour of Penang. For sure better than singapore and also better than Bangkok because of it's variety.

I certainly wouldn't want VT to be stirring up any sort of row, as it tries so hard to avoid conflict. However, I do find it very gratifying that it is deemed important enogh to be accorded suc recognition. I've only been through Changi airport in Singapore and cannot really comment. I have, however, been to Penang and Bangkok (many times) and thoroughly enjoyed the street food in both places, so I am probably not the best man to ask for a decision here!

I just rolled in to a town called Mersing after cycling 1437 kilometers through Malaysia. Will be heading to a little tropical island tomorrow called Tioman and after that i should have time for another 7-800 kilometers of leisurely cycling through Malaysia i think.

i would choose Bangkok, Penang, then Singapore. Amongst my favs in Bangkok is HOY TAWD, which is a mussel and egg dish served on top of bean sprouts with a sweet chili sauce. My other favourite is the Kaprao dishes, the chili basil dishes served with, shrinp, chicken or shrimps over rice. We had a backppackers GH and restaurant here in the late 90's serving western, thai and indian dishes and the chili basil dishes were the best sellers. Penang street food is real good too as you have the Indian, Malay, chinese dishes.

George Town is the place to be mate. Best spot on Penang island if you ask me and UNESCO world heritage.
