Fridaaaaaaay and hola from southern Spain! Today's pubfact: Twelve cows are known as a "flink." So there
And eleven cows as a "flunk" because one is missing ;o))
Never heard that one before. Are you sure you don't just make this stuff up? Pint of cider here please.
I have never "herd" that word before.
I've heard of a flink - 12 or more cows. It's as real as that a group of newbies is called an ineptitude. I've never understood "surfeit of skunks." Even one skunk is too many. And why did swordfish get to be a flotilla, when sharks are a school?
Mooo mooo mooo *hic*
What's the difference between a fink and a herd then? It's a bit early here but, I'll have a Beefeater Martini with three olives. Please?
Well I might be cow-ardly, but I don't have the slightest idea what the difference is. Nor to a livestock. But it does make a good pubfact lol
Well, since I'm not bull-ish I won't worry about it. Anyway, if I misspell flink before I have that Martini, think what will happen after. LOL!
A fink is a bird, and ten birds on the roof.... How was that saying?
Isn't it Danish? "En fugl i hånden er bedre end ti på taget." Translation: "One bird in the hand is better than ten on the roof." In the USA we say, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." :-)
For collective nouns, I always liked a murder of crows but a bellowing of bullfinches quite appeals.
>> A fink is a bird Yes, David. But out there amoung the English they call it a 'finch'.
In ye olde English, the plural of cow was kine (instead of cows today). Old bibles said: And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, well favoured and fatfleshed; and they fed in the reed-grass. (Genesis 41:2) Having a pre-prandial sherry.
I especially like 'an unkindness of ravens'. 'Cos they are not nice birds. A murmuration of starlings is good too, although that should really be a racket of starlings imo. What should we call a group of Vt-ers? I've always said organising them is like herding cats, but even so... A paparazzi of Vt-ers? It's the wine (rose) talking, of course...
I'll have to think about that one. Collective noun for VTers? Give me a few hours and a few pints tonight and I'll see what I can come up with.
and if it is a bakers dozen how we call them? flunk?
I think you would find the best answer by bringing that group of Vt'ers drunk, and then placing it to a vote
Wikipedia disagrees with you - and we ALL know how accurate it is! Baileys on the rocks is being consumed! :-D
I am mooooo sing on this while I debate whether to have a glass of wine or not. Any idea what a pack of poodles is called?
Yes, a freaking disaster!
LOL Fergy!
overwork and grabbing some leffe beers for energy booster !
Hmmm I don't know that beer would be an energy booster at this time... I've done 7 loads of laundry, ironed and put it all away and changed the bed.... a glass of wine will send me to sleep.
at this time wine will do that to you, but a good leffe is energizer liquified...lol!!
How do I register that? How are these thinngs decided. I want to be credited with the collective noun "a disaster of poodles." Incidentally, Sue, I do actually like dogs, I hope I am not barred from the VT hotel.
I thought 12 cows was a female football team with a substitute.
'A Troop of Kangaroos' lots of people think they are called a mob. I had my fill of red wine last night celebrating with friends. A strong black coffee,no sugar. Cheers Dorrise
Coffee here too. On my way to see 30.000 year old grafiti in a cave
I hear they even drew cows back then!
haha,cows with horns.
