I love to go and sit on a bench by the Somass River which is about 10 blocks away. Now that it is the tourist season I find it is fairly easy to figure out where folks are from before they speak. There is no intent to insult anyone. I notice that European men wear very short shorts with socks; Asian women (the younger ones) tend to wear tights with short skirts even on hot days. People from Germany are always armed with fancy cameras. What do you notice in your town?
The tourists mentioned above are sure a welcome sight in our town after an absent Spring. I find it interesting that the tourists from Germany seem to outnumber the rest by quite a bit.
NEVER socks with my shorts!!
That's good Alan. Pleased to hear it. Your home page photo is amazing.
"What do you notice in your town? " Damn few Britons.
So the Londoners have fled Fergy? The Olympics the cause?
Well, that doesn't help but there have been damned few Britons in London for years.
Okay Fergy you got me. Where have they gone?
Overseas mostly. I define myself as white British on my census form and I am an ethnic minority where I live.
Ah I see. Sorry I should have realised.
So should the British Government 50 years ago.
Yes, we have some pretty lax immigration policies also.
We tend to have mostly European visitors - French, German, Dutch - as the other markets have pretty much dried up excpt in niche tourism, corporte travel etc. There's always an extra buzz in the summer especially on a sunny day and I love to see visitors on the streets.
I love it too Katherine. It reminds me that we don't live in isolation and just how big the world is. I don't think we get the French here. Mostly German, Dutch and Asian.
Katherine, are you still getting the fishermen? I know that used to be a big travel market there. I am not a fisherman myself but my brother who still lives in Northern Ireland is and he says that there are many anglers from all over visiting Ireland for the sport.
That's big on the Shannon river, especially with Germans. But overall, fishing and golf are still the major tools, used to lure unsuspecting tourists here. And the Guinness of course :)
