Air B & B

by craic Online Now Jul 6, 2012 at 4:59 PM

https://www.airbnb.com/ Has anyone ever used this site to find accomodation? I am seriously thinking of going to Wellington (New Zealand) in early October for a literary bunfight and I don't have family to stay with anymore. If it works it would be rather fun to stay with people but the plane from Melbourne arrives at midnight and I don't want to be getting out of the taxi and finding out there is just a warehouse where my accomodation should be or something like that.

Yes, I have used it for London. We found very satisfactory accommodation, with no problems connected with the booking. Same accommodation was also listed on other booking sites.

HI Jen, we used it for 2 nights in Anaconda, MT and I wish it would have been a warehouse! We ended up blowing off the second night even though we had already paid for it. The guy was trying to be nice and hang out with us but he was very annoying and when he started with the racist comments about our president I said that did it, we are out of here! It was also not very clean and still under construction. We were given the impression it had no reviews yet because it was so new. I think if a place is listed in other places and has reviews it would probably be ok. (the place you recommended in Venice was perfect) Ellen

Just one comment: if your plane arrives at midnight, I'd say stay in a hotel for the first night. Beyond the warehouse issue, if I were your AirBnB host, I wouldn't be too thrilled to have to stay up until 2 AM waiting for you to show up!

yeah this arriving at midnight lark is a nuisance - they don't even have shuttle buses at that time the only good thing about it is all the staff rush you through customs and security so they can knock off and close the airport up until now my brother would always pick me up and i would stay the night at my mothers - and they would be happy to stay up late to see me oh ellen that doesn't sound great at all -

I have used AIR bnb and I am a host myself. Very satisfy with the visitors and the host I have been to. One must read the reviews as they are very helpful in your decision of where to stay. On the note to midnight arrival, it is best to stay at a airport hotel the first night and then arrive at your host house the next day at a decent time. I myself would hate a mid-nite arrival. Many host will help you get your bearing straight and direct you to the right places to see and eat and have fun. Besides saving a lot of money, most host that i have met are really nice people. cheers tommy x

I can't help with the digs but a literary bunfight sounds like a whole lot of fun.

Tommy I am sure you are a great host and I would stay with you with no hesitation. I have a musician friend here in Montana that stayed in NY through air bnb and got an air mattress in basically a hostel. So I do not have any personal positive reviews although I am sure there are many.

it's my idea of a holiday, a literary bunfight culminating in a brouhaha at the french embassy dommage i don't drink anymore wellington airport is a bit of a problem being so small and the shuttle buses knocking off about 9pm and it closing between 2am and 4 am no airport hotels if it didn't close i would just find a cosy corner and wait until the first shuttle bus i will be two hours ahead of local time so it wouldn't be an effort i am almost wondering if i shouldn't be brave and take one of the flights that lands in auckland and then goes on to wellington and arrive at a reasonable time - the only direct flights wellington to melbourne are so early or really late
