As a tourist(brazilian) how can I get a data package for my smartphone in the states

by yusha Online Now Jun 21, 2012 at 8:36 AM

I will travel to the u.s. as a tourist and would like to use my smartphone there, with a data package (100Megas) would be enough for 2 months). Can I, as a tourist use this service? Can I make and receive local calls and SMS?How can I buy this service from Brazil? Need to change the cell chip? What is the cost? Which are the best companies to ask for? Thank you very much

Depeds on the phone. Some types of phones wil only work with some companies. Some companies charge per megabyte for this type of service. Will you be in major urban areas or need service in smaller cities?

Thank you so much for answering! I´ll be in major cities and also on the road.My smartphone is samsung 5510. Brazilaian companies charge too much for roaming.Guess AT$T will be fine, but I don´t know how to buy this service from Brasil. Their support number for Sao Paulo(brasil) doesn´t answer here.

You should just plan to buy a prepaid phone when you get here. You can get it ay any convenience store like a 7-11, AM/PM, Circle K, etc, usually any one of those that are attached to a gas station. Don't buy at LAX, they will be more expensive.
