Portugal has fantastic players, but i must say that i have little faith in them as they rely too much on the Madeira boy which makes them a little too predictable.

Portugal is playing much as a team than in the qualifiers where they were fance but ineffective. Great to see.

Phew. Good luck for Germany. Portugal would have deserved the 1:1. The first two thirds of the match were terribly boring. Only the end was worth watching. Both teams did an excellent job in defense.

No excitement yet. The Germany - Portugal game was very lacklustre. Looking forward to Ireland - Croatia tomorrow.

I thik the 2 games yesterday were very exciting even if they were between teams who might now win the whole thing.

Woopeeeeh! Go Deutschland! Yes, the 2nd half in last night's match was better, and our boys did play well but there was always that "last 10%" of precision missing... we had so many goal opportunities... I hope they find those last 10% in the next matches to come :-) Let's hope they are "warmed up" and "fired up" now :-)

Germany won, which is the most important for them. Hopefully they will fire up the engine in the next games and play a little better though. Was a bit dissapointed by them last night, but as long as they win then you can't argue against them. Portugal on the other hand played better than i expected, but didn't have the luck.

Call me a philistine (or worse), but having watched three of the first four games and braving Arctic temperatures here in Jo'burg to cheer on the Germans, I am left with the distinct impression that a bad rugby game is better than a good football (soccer) one! Better duck for cover now ... :)

Yes, I am watching it - as always, I will try to watch as many games as possible! I first thought that the German team was a bit weak yesterday, but I think that is mainly because they were "pushed" so much by the media over the last weeks that we probably expected too much. After all, they won, and although they did not play beautifully, it was obviously quite effective. I am really looking forward to wednesday, it will be an exciting game because the Netherlands have to win! Cathy, did you intentionally pick the very first day without a game for our meeting, or was that a coincidence?? Of course I would have come to the meet anyway, but I just checked the dates and was pleasantly surprised that there is no game on that date. ;-) Now I am looking forward to Spain - Italy. I am cheering for Spain :-)

I though Portugal play great vs Germany and the luck part was missing on hitting the crossbar and the ball hitting the line, lol! but today is Spain vs Italy, and Go Spain!!! We will make history in this tournament as winning back to back Euro championships.... stay tune///

I wish soccer would be banned in Italy, where a ball is seemingly more important than a loaf of bread. Over three hundred thousand people recently gathered in Torino to celebrate Juventus as the national champion and I guess I'll never see such a crowd demanding for a "cleaner" government. We should pump our money elsewhere rather than into a national team. The sooner the "Azzurri" are kicked out of the series, the happier I am.
