Request from outside VT to change a tip

by pieter_jan_v Online Now May 28, 2012 at 8:16 AM

Have you ever got requests from outside VT to change the text of a tip. I think I already had 5 in the course of time and I updated all those tips. In three occasions I even was provided with recent pictures. I see it as a sign that VT get some recognition from shop- and restaurant owners. Have you ever got update requests for your tips? PJ

On the contrary: learning the truth cannot be embarrassing. I'm always glad when I finally discovers how things fit together. PJ

I have and sometimes i have changed it if they were right, but i have also had people moaning to me cause they do not like what i wrote about their business. And i have a restaurant owner from Goreme/Turket who writes me regulary that i have a free meal the nest time i visit his restaurant because of the review i wrote about his excellent little place.

I've also had a restaurant owner moaning to me about what I had written in my review. I wrote back and to the owner but never changed my tip because I was totally correct in what I wrote. I left his email of complaint on the page though. More embarrassing for the owner me thinks!

I've never received a request, but I've written another VT member about a few restaurant closings in my home town that they had written about.

happened to me once, certain Restaurant tip in place in UK. I wrote what I thought was right (it was) the business changed hands and shef, and on my next visit I discovered that altho they kept the name they were banking on the previous owners good name. The new owner contacted me to demand to change my tip as they are open as usual. Now I knew for certain that the owner retired & sold the business. Needles to say the new owner pestered me for weeks and after advice from the peeps here I stuck to my guns. you win some you loose some!

The nearest i have come was when I wrote a tip about an excellent little cafe in a place in UK. Local friends informed me that the place had changed hands and I wrote on VT stating this although obviously offering no opinion on the new place as I had not ate there. The new owner wrote me a very pleasant VTmail suggesting that I pop in for a meal next time I was there.unfortunately, circumstances did not allow and I believe it has been taken over yet again all of which just goes to show how transitory travel tips can be.
