I wonder?

by ricky52 Online Now May 28, 2012 at 5:20 AM

Is VT getting harder to navigate than it used to be? The reason I ask is that over the last couple of weeks or so, new members are asking travel related questions as comments on other member's pages. Now I know that this has happened on the odd occasion and there is nothing wrong in doing so but in some cases they are asking questions to a member who has not been online for a couple of years. So, is it now more difficult to navigate the travel forum than it used to be?

I tend to stick to what I know on here...so changing it all and making it much harder to navigate is not a good thing ... Maybe these occasional posters thought a person from that specific place would know best....and some sites send you an e mail when you have a notice in your inbox or personal page so they might of thought that would happen and bring them back to answer Speaking of dificulties ...the no inbox thing is making ot difficult to contact you Ricky ...look out for my message as soon as its working again...time sensitive

Hi Ricky - Yes I too have wondered if new members are finding it more difficult to learn the ropes. I have seen several of those comment/questions - some have even appeared on the member's own Home page. I have responded to quite a few with a welcome, explained the purpose of the comment box and directed them to the Forums. So far not one has responded in anyway -I have not seen the question pursued through the Forums but - as a for a note of thanks - what is that? do I hear you say. A couple who I emailed did respond. More and more new members don't seem to stay around long enough to make a comment or to ask a question but plenty just to leave a rant or a not so well disguised tip/advert. There also seems to be a new habit where some members use the Comment facility on their HP to keep members up to date with their movement - a new version ot tweeting? But of course one only sees those by chance so pretty much a waste of time.

Well a member who has just joined VT has been to my place twice now with her netbook and we sit side by side while I take her through things. When a friend in Brisbane joined I was on the phone with step by step help. Maybe it depends on how computer literate they are. It is easy when you know to forget what it is like when you did not know. I was slow to get started after my first question asked on VT....Did not even know I was rookie....eventually I found Kiwi....and aussirose got me to Airlie Beach for a Meet. All new members need a V.T. Meet!
