For all of you San Francisco fans, tomorrow is the big 75th anniversary celebration of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge. I can remember my first walk across the bridge just before it turned 25 when I was living in San Bruno. Tens of thousands of folks will descend on the City to celebrate the opening that finally connected San Francisco and Marin Counties. Many events planned. goldengatebridge75.org/celeb... Would anyone be interested in mid to late 2014 in a short meet focusing on the hidden stairways, steps and walks in San Francisco? Hosted of course by local walkers and bikers.
When the Bridge turned 50 in 1987, they closed it to traffic and invited everyone to walk across in the early morning. I was in the crowd that walked from the Marin side, but as you may remember, no one made it all the way across, because when the northbound group and the southbound group met, mid-span, it turned into a giant gridlock. In the newspaper the next day, photos showed the Bridge curving at the bottom from the weight of the people, which was kind of scary. I won't be able to attend any of the festivities tomorrow, but I know it will be a great celebration. I'd be interested in your 2014 meet.
I'm always interested in San Francisco. Made my first visit out there on a business trip back in September, 1985 and have been back many times since. Last time my wife and I took a tour which focused on San Francisco's POPOS
Thanks Rikie and thanks Rich. We'll see what the reaction is :)
