I have been putting my recent problems sleeping to good use drafting tips for posting and catching up on watching some movies and TV Shows. What do you do when you cannot sleep?
If you put yourself to sleep dwelling on a problem you will often wake in the morning with the solution. That's what I do. I say to myself thyat I will sleep on it and hey presto....magic happens. Carole.
I either toss and turn or go for a long walk. When i am unable to sleep it´s because i ahve to get up early for work the next day and then i get stressed. When that happens i can not sit still as that knocks my blood pressure up to levels i should die from, so i go for a long long walk in the dark streets of wherever i am in the world and then when i return i can usually sleep.
Like right now? Sitting in bathroom in Rome hotel while wife sleeps answering and asking questions on VT. Help, I have an extreme case of VTitis!!!
I surf VT or Facebook, or watch Youtube videos. Drinking herbal tea (especially chamomile or vanilla) helps too.
Drink.
Usually I get up, eat something light (cereal), look at stuff like VT, maybe read. After a couple of hours I'm ready to try again. My g-f (a doctor) has given me a homeopathic medication which works wonders with giving me 6-7 hours unbroken. I use it if I think I might have a problem.
If I cant sleep I get up again and do quiet cleaning...usually a half hour of that and I am prepared to go back to bed and try again
When I can't sleep, I will be watching tv and chatting with VT members from other side of the world. I can't read any book, I read two lines and I go ZZZZZZZZZZ...
Hubby and I always have the radio on the BBC news channel for going to sleep and for those times when we wake up and want to drift off again - push the sleep button. If I have a severe case of Insomnia then I usually get up, make a nice cuppa and play on vt for a while. That usually does the job.
I usually take a pill of melatonine. I do this for three nights and 20 minutes before going to sleep. It works for me most of the times.
I have been taking melantonin for a few weeks now ( there was a discussion on something like this a few weeks ago here) and it works. But, I have been getting headaches during the day more often than before I started taking it, so I am not sure this is related. I am goign to stop taking it for a few days and see if the headaches go away
Ersh... You too, Jim? This week's been rough on me. Like Sophia, I usually get up and take a melatonin if it's really bad. But it can leave me feeling zombified in the morning. Sometimes just moving to the couch helps me sleep. What I've found is even better is a spoonful of unrefined coconut oil an hour before bed. Sleep like the dead.
I hope G doesn't look at the number of people mentioning VT helping them get to sleep and conclude it's boring. For me drafting the tips helps because most of the time it's my overactive mind that keeps me awake.
I read in my Ipad.
Like Claus, I usually go out for a walk or some fresh air. I did it a couple days ago and some police told me to go home, then I heard gun shots.... so I listened to their advice. I would also update my pages, write tips, catch up on my emails, etc. but thanks to a lot of bureaucracy down here, I'm waiting on internet and cable in my apartment for more than a month. I've been told 'on Monday' too many times now.
