These days I need the creature comforts. There was a time when A to B was achieved the cheapest way possible, and discomfort didn't matter. Can't hack that anymore.
I try to fly as often as I can. Not CO2 neutral living. But those overnight bus rides take me forever to recuperate from. The hostels I still love - Particularly when I travel alone. But now I opt for a private room. Which ironically means that more often than not it won't save me any money.
yes it has.
I am not sure how many more of these dust inhaling, bumpy bus riding, totally roughing it adventures I can take anymore in my ripe old age. A comfy bed never looked so appealing after this latest trip. Sad state of affairs, eh.
Heh rara, I remembering mentioning that 5 star hotels are fun on a honeymoon. How was your honeymoon? (Besides the dust, bumpy buses and woman-eating carnivors (sp?) you met in Africa)
I find as I get older, the ground gets further and further away. I used to love sleeping on the ground, but now I can't reach it anymore.
It was a lot of fun although very hectic. We saw a ton of animals, including a group of lions devouring a zebra. It's not sleeping on the ground that bothered, it was more like the mozzies biting the bum when you try to use the squat loo.
We used to hostel it. Until one day I caught a lady rifling through our food bin, someone stole some of our food, and a loud Aussie was talking and smoking under our window at 2:00 am. I was going to say something but Mr. X thought he would come after us later on.
Mr. X prefers luxurious accomodations now, I guess because he now spends many long hours at the office and it's his way of treating himself and relaxing. As long as the place is clean I'm happy, but I usually have to go along with his new obsession for 600 thread count sheets, gyms and deep soaking tubs.
yes, I used to sleep in my car, in a tent, or even outside in a sleeping bag. And ride my bike a lot.
now I prefer to fly and sleep in a bed.
600 TC sheets?!
I am just happy not to inhale a ton of dust on the next trip. :)
it's amazing how your travel preference changes over the years.
geez just to think, I used to ride my bike, then a car, then fly on a plane, who knows what next.
I sorta like them too *hangs head*
Actually 600 TC sounds really nice right now... with doghter snuggled by the bed. *snores*
Don, you forgot about boats.
"Don, you forgot about boats."
although I used to boat about on the local lakes, one thing I've never done is,
go on a cruise ship! that's the final frontier! LOLL
My preferences have only changed to a point that I will favor a less primitive trip that before if given the chance.
My desire to travel has only increased though.
Not that my preferences changed but I have a sort of 'travel hyerarchy'. Europe is on the top but now I've seen quite a lot of it and would love to explre some other regions.
A must have now is a soft comfortable bed, roughing it is long been over for us. We do bargain hunt, before the cheapest would do. Now we found we can upgrade without any or much cost just by shopping around, older and wiser now. Holly
