I have just received the sad news that Kinga has been taken ill with Malaria in Ghana. I have pasted the mail below....
I don't have good news for you this time. Kinga caught malaria. The cerebral malaria - the most dangerous one. From Wednesday she is hospitalized in SSNIT - The Trust Hospital ssnit.com/member_list.cfm?Br... this is one of a few websites I found on the hospital. According to Polish Consular Representative in Ghana it's one of the best hospitals she could get into. The Consul visits her regurally taking care to secure constant attendance. The first days of hospitalization of unconscious Kinga she was under care of her Ghananian friends with whom she stayed before malaria broke out. The first day and night for all of us were a nightmare. Now Kinga is recovering and was moved out from an emergency ward and next days she will be wached upon by nurse on permanent basis.
The next days for us will pass on prayers and organizeing all what's nece! ssary for Kinga to recover as quick as possible. All your support will be very prescious and appreciate. If you can send Kinga warm thoughts about quick recovery it will certainly mean a lot to her and to us.
Hoping for the best outcome of this situation and quick Kinga's recovery,
Join me in wishing Kinga, one of VT's most intrepid travellers, a speedy recovery.
She's like a travel hero to me !
All the best !
With the right drugs she should recover, but it's a nasty one.... all the best Kinga! Speedy recovery eh>?
What a blow to read of this. Kinga surely is our travelling hero.
My thoughts are with you Kinga. I wish you a full and speedy recovery.
Thanks for this posting this Stace, and hope our best wishes reaches her back
Passing on our wishes for Kingas speedy recovery.
Oh. no! why did she not take the malaria prophylaxis??
Wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery to VT's travel hero. I've been thinking about her since reading her latest post about the rescue/sponsorship of a needy child.
All the best, Kinga!!
best thing to be said here is that malaria very rarely is fatal these days if treated right away.
good luck and see you soon kinga.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Kinga. Get well soon and give us another wonderful book!
Sorry to hear this courageous and most interesting traveller. I indeed wish her a full and fast recovery to this often fatal disease.
bloody hell that is bad news
keep us posted please :-(
Oh dear, so sad to hear this :(
What a shame to have this dampen her Africa tour too. I send her all my love and prayers for a speedy recovery. Malaria ia easily curable thankfully, please ensure her care is constant, and thanks for letting us know.
I don't know Kinga but I sort of understand what she is going through. I was around two people who went through that bout. Not pretty at all. Even after the quinine makes ones head want to explode for a couple of weeks, then it takes a few months to get back to normal. I wish her all the strength in the world.
I wish to add my wishes for a speedy and complete recovery to those already posted. Kinga is an amazing woman, always looking at the world, instead of focusing on herself. If she hadn't rescued that little girl, and returned her to Ghana, she wouldn't have been near such a good hospital when she became ill. My thoughts and my own version of prayers are heading her way .....
Thank you Stace for posting this and so quick
I just finished replying to the E-mail sent to all of us who followed Kinga's journey ,but the Yahoo E-mail of Kinga was not getting through .
Then I tried again by sending a new E-mail instead of replying ,and again no luck .
I hope that Chopin (Kinga's friend that sent the E-mail ) will read this posting and will relay our well wishes to Kinga .
This is a real shocker and I would like to add Lori's and myself well wishes for a speedy recovery for Kinga .
Lori & Hans
For anyone interested you can send a message to Kinga from her website...
Click on 'E Mail' on the LH side menu.
I´m not sure she is in a position to read it, but I´m sure she will the moment she gets online, or Chopin will pass on the messages.
Thank you Stace
Good Idea ,I think I have her website bookmarked
I'll do that
The link is in my response above Hansi :o)
Thanks for letting folks know Stace. I went over there already and left a little note. Gee, last big trip it was Chopin who became ill. This time it's Kinga. I hope they are done getting seriously sick while traveling ;)
Yes Stace I used your link ,works fine .
All the best and wishing you a speedy recovery.
I hope you're up and at 'em soon, Kinga.
Kinga is one of the VT icons. So sad to hear this news. Prayers, postive thoughts and energy, and lots of love to you Kinga.
Oh no!! This posting made me go cold! I wish Kinga a speedy recovery and will leave a message on her website too. That is really terrible news :(
oh this is sad news indeed!
Get better soon Kinga! Quick recovery and strenght and also to the friends who are supporting her!
What sad news...I have been receiving Kinga's travel updates and had not heard news in a while.
Sending HEALING to Kinga through the miles...may she recover quickly!!!
Get well soon - we're all rooting for you :-)
This news made me feel so sad!!! As many of you I followed her adventures too and always felt very envious for her freedom and her ability in staying tune to the kind of life she chosed to live! Reading her book mad me descover how is better letting things happen rather than fighting against them. And also that there is always a reason around the corner that makes things happen. maybe there is also in this case. Who knows? I don't know. But I really hope all will be ok with her soon.
Get well soon and let the angels take care of you.
