Someone fill me in on the deal with Dr. Pepper and Texas? Those Texans drink the stuff like water.
I had no idea. I have a friend from San Antonio who lives here now and he's always ***ing about how no place around here has Dr. Pepper. And we're always like, "Who drinks that stuff?"
No, I'll ask him though. I should say that you CAN buy DP here in the grocery store but they definately don't have it in restaurants and he swears that the stuff that you get in the grocery store here isn't the same.
Yep. That's it!
I have a good friend who is well known in our industry for bringing Dr. Pepper with him everywhere he goes. On one trip to London, I snuck out to the local Sainsbury's and bought some DP for him, but when I showed my find to him, he opened his luggage and showed me all the DP he had brought with him...from Texas...he said that the UK DP didn't taste right...;-) Well, I have to admit that I like Dr. Pepper, and the diet version actually tastes more real than nearly any other diet drink (yes, I know they advertise that, but it actually seems to be true). If nothing else, isn't nice to know that there's more to the soft drink world than Coca-Cola and knockoffs and 7-Up and knockoffs? Bill
Diet DP isn't too bad. I agree. I like diet Barq's rootbeer the best though for diet soda. MMM.
"In the US, they use High Fructose Corn Syrup for soda pop. Outside the US, they use sugar." Except in the Dublin, Texas, bottling facility, where they still use Imperial Pure Cane Sugar, making their Dr. Pepper sought after by the cognoscenti. See http://www.dublindrpepper.com/ Bill
Oh my God, Dr. Pepper.....I almost retch at the thought of it! Years ago, I drank a six pack of that pop every day; was totally addicted. Yikes!
Oh wow, I love Dr Pepper! I am having so much trouble finding it in australia though, it was everywhere ten years ago but now you can't find it ANYWHERE!
mmm.. I love Dr. Pepper! It used to be the required soda for me whenever I ate pizza. I've mellowed somewhat and now simply require soda of any kind. The other name that DP is often referred to is "carbonated prune juice" for the periodic restroom runs after downing too much of the stuff.
I don't recall that, but believe you. I am so burned out on that drink that the smell still repells me!
Yeah, I forgot about that. I never knew why they dropped the period, do you?. Same goes for how the soda got its DP name.
My aversion to Dr Pepper comes from having drunk too much of it in my younger years, which makes me wonder...has this happened to any of you? Something you ate or drank that you cannot possibly consume any longer? (And I definately cannot do champagne or donuts anymore either, but that's another story.)
I love Dr Pepper too, but then again I'm a Texas girl... Brad, did you really have to remind us of Blue Bell ice cream? That is so cruel!! I love the banana nut flavor... Whenever I go back home the first place I hit is the grocery store and hit the ice cream, chips and soda.. How about Big Red soda? That makes the best ice cream float...
I am a DP addict, though I have never packed it on a trip. We have Blue Bell ice cream in Florida, I believe it arrived here about 2 yrs ago it is very good. I only eat at fast food resteraunts that serve Dr Pepper. I have heard that their seceret ingredent is prune juice, does anyone know if this is true?
My friend from San Antonio also loves Big Red soda. The last time he went home he brought me back a six-pack of the stuff. He was all proud of it, like he was giving me a fine bottle of wine or something. It's funny.
I love Dr Pepper. It runs a very close second to Pepsi as my favorite soft drink. Drink Dr Pepper at 10 2 and 4. That was the old ad campaign from when I was a kid...long before the I'm a pepper, she's a pepper commercials. Larry
I go for an ICY COLD COKE any day ... but Dr Pepper is my runner up :D My children LOVE Big Red; I think it tastes like bubble gum soda HA!
I will drink the fake Dr Pepper that Coke makes called Mr. Pibb. But its not as good as Dr Pepper. Still prefer Pepsi above all though. Larry
I drink way too many soft drinks during the day. I rarely drink iced tea although I do like it. I do try to drink lots of water but sometimes end up drinking more soft drinks. Vanilla Pepsi has become my daily drink of choice at work, after my morning coffee. Larry
You guys are making me thirsty. Here's another question: What is the deal with the iced tea in the South with 15 pounds of sugar mixed into it? (The wife of my friend from San Antonio is from Lower Alabama and she drinks this stuff like crazy. Sweet tea. Ick.)
If you live in the south you gotta have sweet tea. My mother's was always high test and full of sugar. Thats the only way I like it. Lots of sugar and then some lemon to cut the sweetness...lol. Larry
Reminds me of the scene in Steel Magnolias when Annelle makes the tea with the water the hot dogs were boiling in. Larry
I've tasted it and it just seems like it would contribute to diabetes. But then I don't like anything too sweet anyway.
Sweet tea is native to the Old South - the eastern part of the Confederacy. The western part, like Texas, prefers unsweetened tea. Normally, in Texas, you won't even be asked which you prefer (although sometimes you will), because there's always plenty of sugar and sugar substitute on the table to adjust your unsweetened tea anyway. The surprise is when you go to the Deep South and they serve you the insulin-busting variety without even asking ;-) Bill
You really didn't think I would see that earlier jab, huh, Brad? (LOL!) Orangina for me anyday. As far as soda, I haven't had a DP, Coke, Pepsi or any soft drink in years. But, then again, I've had only 2 cups of coffee in 2006. Jeff-
dr. pepper is one of the reasons that texas cities always seem to rank in the top 10 in that fattest cities in the u.s. list.
They could switch to diet Dr. Pepper. Tastes just like regular. That's what I heard!
i dont know
I like Dr. Pepper but I only drink the diet stuff. Regular is too sweet for me... and I dislike sweet iced tea. I am very reluctant to order iced tea in restaurants out of fear that it will be the sweetened stuff. I've been burned more than once on that one.
I use to drink way to much soda, so I switched to Ice Tea, sweetened. I drink at least a gallon a day. Which is proably why I rarely get sick, tea has alot of anti -oxidents. I don't reply to forum posts very often, this is my second reply to this one, I am on the verge of being chatty :)
