Slovakia Rail travel in Eastern Europe
Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 05:36 PM UTC
We are wanting to travel through Eastern Europe for 2 weeks in June. Our inital travel plan is Prague- Krakow - Eastern Slovakia (eg Tatra mountains, Levoca) - Eger (Hungary) - Budapest. Is this possible via rail, or would it be better to go via bus through Eastern Slovakia? Can anyone suggest the cheapest and easiest way for 3 adults to travel this route, or suggest a better route to get a taste of these countries?

Slovakia Best and Cheapest way to travel from Bratislava to Italy
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 06:55 PM UTC
I am going to be in Slavakia for two months this summer and am looking to head down to Italy on my week off. Ill be 26 by the time Im there so I will no longer be eligible for the youth discounts and I'm American (which it seemed like the Eurorail specials were only for people not from the country that you want to travel in and that you had to be from somewhere in Europe correct me if I'm wrong though...that happens quite often). Plus any other advice anyone wants to throw my way about travel in Slovakia and to surrounding countries would be much appreciated!

Bratislava Budget Accommodation
Posted: Wed April 2, 2008 09:22 AM UTC
Have went through a lot of hostels, a private room for two costs at least 50euro. I believe the same price is good enough to stay in a hotel as well? Any hotel/hostel around the price could you recommend? The euro is 20% higher than the time I started planning for this trip.  I am okay with mix-dorm but my friend has never done that. Thanks.

Bratislava Bratislava to Krakow-What is the best way?
Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 07:12 PM UTC
Hi! I will be in Bratislava this May and am looking to get to Krakow. I think they best way to do this is by train, possibly overnight.
Does anyone know how much this train is, and where we could find information (in English) about it? How safe would it be for 3 girls traveling alone?

Bratislava Visiting Slovakia
Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 09:22 AM UTC
Hi there,

I am going to be visiting Slovakia for two weeks in August.
As I am at the start of my planning I have a few basic questions for all of you:

- I would like to learn a little Slovak to help me get around however I have only been able to find Czech learning resources. Will learning some Czech be sufficient?

- What are the absolute 'must-dos' of Slovakia? My rough guide is in the post but as yet I know virtually nothing about the country. Your suggestions may include visits to areas around Slovakia but, as I only have two weeks, I would like to use most of my time to get to know Slovakia better.

Any other thoughts would be most welcome

Bratislava 8 Full Days in Central Europe - Prague, Bratislava & Budapest.
Posted: Sun March 2, 2008 11:35 PM UTC
Hi there,

We're looking to put together a 10 day trip (two days of travel to/from US/Europe), so we'll actually have 8 full days for these three cities. We're looking at early September or late November, depending on personal schedules.

I'm wondering if this is a positive itinerary below:

Day 1: US to Prague
Day 2: Arrive Prague, check-in, sightsee
Day 3: Sightsee Prague
Day 4: Sightsee Prague
Day 5: AM Train from Prague to Bratislava (2 hrs), check-in, sightsee
Day 6: Sightsee Bratislava
Day 7: AM Train Bratislava to Budapest (3 hrs), check-in, sightsee
Day 8: Sightsee Budapest
Day 9: Sightsee Budapest
Day 10: Budapest to US

Any and all suggestions are totally welcome as we just started looking at these cities...

Bratislava Bratislava-Budapest

Hi all. Anyone knows how to get to Budapest from Bratislava?
Is there a cheap flight? Or should I just take the train?
If train, so far I haven't been able to find a website to reserve the tickets. Can I just show up at the train station and buy the tickets there?
Thanks.

Where can I find real estate agents / websites / other offers for furnished appartements in Bratislava ?

Price / month should not exceed 900 EUR. Preferably near the city center and close to public transport. Arrival date will expectedly be the 14th of april 2008. Pets allowed would be of advantage.

Slovakia Where is the nightlife in Jasná ski resort?
Posted: Thu February 21, 2008 02:20 PM UTC
Hi!

I'm looking for accommodation in Jasná. However, as I will have a car, I think I would like to live closer to where the nightlife is than the slopes (if nightlife is not by the slopes).

Is the nightlife in the hotels beside the slopes, or in the nearby village Liptovský Mikuláš?

Thanks!

Slovakia How do you buy train and bus tickets in Slovakia?
Posted: Sun January 27, 2008 07:30 PM UTC
Well, the obvious way is to go to the station and buy a train ticket. But by that question I mean in some strange times like 4 am or 23 pm...Are the ticket-selling offices at the stations always opened before a leaving train? Is there a situation in which there is nobody selling tickets and you cannot go to the train?
Also, I would like to know whether one should buy bus tickets (for intercity buses) from the driver, or from the bus station.
Thank you very much.

Bratislava Where can I buy Hungarian forints in Bratislava?
Posted: Sat January 26, 2008 02:05 PM UTC
I am going to have a nice trip through Northern Hungary and Southern Slovakia and since I am arriving in Bratislava and beginning with the Hungarian part of the trip, I am most probably going to need a few Hungarian forints from Bratislava. So can anyone tell me where in Bratislava can I exchange euros for Hungarian forints? I would prefer the place to be at the airport or around the main train station, but other places will also work.
Thank you very much.

Slovakia Hostel/Slovakia
Posted: Thu January 24, 2008 02:06 PM UTC
Hi all!
Please help me with my research (if you can): My name is Martina and I am a tourism student in my final year, writing a dissertation about the film tourism, specifically IF or TO WHAT EXTENT the Hostel film influenced travelling to Slovakia (my home country) as a tourism destination. I would like to ask all of you who have seen the movie, to write a few words, whether/how it shaped the picture of Slovakia you had in your mind before seeing the film (if any), whether it put you off or opposite, made you want to go there.., perhaps made you aware of the country (it is often being confused with Slovenia) etc. I'd really appreciate if you could participate in my project by replying to this message. MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO WILL!

Bratislava junifest 2008
Posted: Wed January 16, 2008 08:44 PM UTC
hi,my first posting on VT,
to celebrate a momentous occasion (my 50th) myself and a handful of beer drinking friends are thinking about coming to the junifest beer festival this year.
there is plenty on the internet about last years festival and it sounds like fun.
however i cant find this years dates confirmed anywhere.
does anybody know the precise dates?

also, is this the kind of event where we need to buy tickets beforehand? we were at munich last year and lack of tickets proved our downfall.

thanks in advance,

howard.
