Yangshuo River cruise FROM Yangshuo
Posted: Tue June 21, 2005 10:13 PM UTC
Is it possible to go on a river cruise once in Yangshuo? We have limited time and would prefer a half-day river trip from Yangshuo instead of the long one that goes from Guilin to Yangshuo.

Or, is it just as beautiful to hike and take a bamboo raft trip on the smaller river near by?

Yangshuo Itinerary suggestion for 2-week-trip
Posted: Sat January 8, 2005 10:07 PM UTC
Hello,

I' d like to hear your suggestions for my first trip to China in Oct./Nov., with the main focus on Yangshuo (approx. 4-5 days). I can take 14 days off work, but could stretch it up with 2-3 days depending on my boss' mood.

1) Flying in/ out of HongKong or Beijing? I 'm aware of the distance Beijing-Yangshuo, but I'd love to see Beijing for its culture rather than HongKong (+/-3 days). Open-jaw tickets cost almost double of a regular ticket. Please advise on prices of domestic flights or other transportation, considering that I don't have too much time to figure out the train or bus tables.

2) I' ve read some bits about the main attractions in China and am wondering what to combine with Yangshuo + that one big city (Beijing or HongKong). Xi'An doesn't sound much appealing to me. Do I have time to go Yunnan or Chengdu for example? I like nature and culture in a moderate amount (ie no museums or trekking tours). Being a girl, shopping is also always a good passtime.

3) A bit more about me: I 'm a single female traveller of Vietnamese origin. Will I encounter any difficulties along the road? A silly thought but perhaps Chinese tend to be more helpful towards westerners. In other parts of SEA they were suspicious of an asian girl travelling on her own. How much is an average single room in a guesthouse? (basic, safe, no dorms)

4) What's the best way to meet up with other people? Guided tours (although too touristy)? If you don't spend much time in each place, I suppose it's not that easy.

Thanks for your help!

Yangshuo Best way to get to Yangshuo from the UK
Posted: Sat October 16, 2004 06:45 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm looking to travel to somewhere in Asia in Novemeber. My options so far are either Thailand or Yangshou. Yangshuo is my favoured option but I think It may be out of my price range.

What would be the cheapest method of getting to Yangshuo from the UK? I dont mind travelling by Train or Bus for a long duration just to keep the costs down.

Can anyone help?

Yangshuo Advanced booking – or not?
Posted: Thu September 2, 2004 10:51 AM UTC
My family and I (3 people) are planning a China trip for next July (2005). We are planning to arrive at Yangshuo from Hong Kong. From Yangshuo we would like to go to Xian by plane (from Guilin). My question is: how far in advance does one need to book a flight Guilin-Xian to be pretty sure to have seats available? Can bookings be made at Yanshuo say one or two days before departure from Guilin?
I have read the information on this forum about bus travel from Hong Kong to Yangshuo (via either Guangzhou or Zhengzhen). Here I have the same question: can we just take the train from HK to Zhengzhen (or Guangzhou) and get there tickets on the spot for departure to Yangshuo the same day? Or should we book in advance? If so, how much in advance?

Thank you very much in advance.

Yangshuo HongKong, YangShuo, Xi'an Trip
Posted: Mon June 21, 2004 04:55 AM UTC
I'm planning a 2 week trip to HongKong, YangShuo & Xi'an in late October. The trip can be from Xi'an, then YangShuo and to HongKong and can be vice versa.

Can anyone suggest to me which is the possible way to goto these 3 places within 2 weeks. What are the transport available from Xi'an to YangShuo? With such a short 2 week tour, I guess the only fastest way is to be on the domestic flight.

Hope fella forumers would suggest something good which I can contain the costs, and have an enjoyable trip! Thanks.

Yangshuo Is It Possible/Worthwhile to Bicycle from Guilan to Yangshou?
Posted: Tue March 16, 2004 03:51 PM UTC
I plan on flying into Guilan and staying in Yangshou area for about 6 days. I want to explore Li River near Yangshou and not take the boat from Guilan (too touristy). I was thinking of maybe getting from Guilan to Yangshou by exploring towns along the way by bike. I would prefer smaller roads to major traveling road and along the Li River if possible. Are the villages along the way interesting? Since I don't have much time I am not sure whether the smaller roads might take too long to get to Yangshou (more than one day) and whether I should spend one full day doing this or not. Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks!

Yangshuo Getting to and from Guilin/Yangshuo
Posted: Fri March 12, 2004 10:34 AM UTC
Hi,
I've been planning my trip to China now for a while and I'm gradually getting most things sorted out, but I still have a few open issues. I'm planning to come from Xi'an to either Chongqing or Yichang to do the Yangtze, despite of the dam :) My next destination is Guilin/Yangshuo and for this transoprtation I would need some assistance.

- Are there direct trains or buses from either Chongqing or Yichang to Guilin/Yangshuo? I've figured out that there is a Chongqing-Liuzhou train, where I would have to change to a train to Guilin and then take a bus to Yangshuo. For the Yichang option I could take a bus Yichang-Wuhan and then a train to Guilin. These are both OK options, but due to time constraints, I'd prefer a direct train or bus.

My next destination is Hong Kong and I'd like to arrive to HK by boat. I know that there is an ferry from Wuzhou to HK, leaving Wuzhou both in the morning and evening. I'd like to take the morning boat, in order to see the Pearl river delta in daylight. The problem is that the evening bus from Yangshuo arrives to Wuzhou 2.30 am and the ferry leaves at 8.00, so this would leave us standing the whole night in Wuzhou, which is a bit painful. Finally to my questions :)

- Are there ferries from Guilin to HK? In this way there wouldn't be a need to go to Wuzhou at all.
- Are there more convenient scheduled buses from Yangshuo to Wuzhou? E.g. one that would arrive in the morning to Wuzhou.
- or any other ideas?

Any piece of information is higly appreciated after spending countless hours with Mr. Google and LP :)

Yangshuo Teaching in Yangshuo
Posted: Tue August 26, 2003 09:20 AM UTC
Hi,
I need some info about volunteer teaching English in Yangshuo.
I am planning on going there for a year, and need to know if I can job hunt there.
I have searched the net and found many sites that do it, but most of them require post-graduate degrees and being a native english speaker, which both I don't have.
So, my question would be: Is it easier to look up a job there, or should I prepare everything before going?
Thanks.

Yangshuo Getting from Yangshuo to Hong Kong
Posted: Sun August 10, 2003 12:35 PM UTC
Hello, could anybody advise the best way to get to Hong Kong from Yangshuo in the morning?
My version is:
6.00/7.30 - taxi to Guilin airport
9.10/10.10 - flight Guilin - Shenzhen
12.00/13.00 - boat Shenzhen - HK

It is more or less cheap, but:
- departing too early
- too long delay in Shenzhen - I'd better sleep an extra hour

Maybe someone knows a better way?

I plan to visit Yangshuo for one week around the middle of October. I am seeking a nice double, perhaps a suite, in a Chinese style hotel. Best available for the price. Names that I have received so far, include White Lion and Morning Sun Hotel. Any recommendations?
