Paris Navigo Decouverte vs. Carte Orange (Metro weekly pass)
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 01:33 AM UTC
I'll be in Paris at end of May for a week. I have found conflicting information about a weekly pass for Metro and RER.
Is Carte Orange no longer available, and must I ask for the new Navigo Decouverte? Where can I buy them? I plan to bring passport size photo for the application.
Any practical info would be useful.

Merci, Jim

Paris Train to Paris, from London
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 12:35 AM UTC
I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative to taking to train from London to Paris?
I am getting fares like $310 US.
Is it cheaper to fly?
Or should I stay in England instead.
I am going at the end of May.

Paris Budget hotel and transportation
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 07:53 PM UTC
I have just gone through quite a few pages on Paris and found most posts very helpful.
My family will be in Paris at the end of the month and after looking for a vacation apartment I've given up.
I did find a budget hotel outside of Paris - Hotel Balladins Rosny Sous Bois.
Has anyone used this hotel?
Can anyont tell me:
1. How much would it cost by RER to get into the city?
2. How do we get to the hotel from Orly airport after 11 p.m. (our flight is scheduled to land at 10:15)?

Paris Louvre
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 01:45 AM UTC
Hello everyone...This is my first posting, as I am brand new to the Forum. Anyway, the wife and I are going to be in Paris the first week in June and we are trying to plan the details. Anyway, here is my first question....

As I was on a website, about to advance purchase tickets to the Louvre, I noticed the "Free" link. Upon researching and doing a little reading, I noticed that the first Thursday of every month, the Louvre offers free attendance.

Can anyone confirm that the Month of June is included and does anyone have any information about this free day? For instance, is it just a bad idea....meaning that the crowds will be far too many???? Anyway, I would love some details if you can provide.

Thanks, John

Paris Romantic setting for a picnic in the park
Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 06:54 PM UTC
My boyfriend and I will be travelling to Paris at the end of May and I think he just might pop the question. He seems intent on locating a place for a picnic and as he has never been to the city of light I thought I might offer an informed suggestion as to where we might have a romantic picnic. So many parks and places to choose--any suggestions?

Thanks!

Paris About the area Panin in East Paris
Posted: Fri May 2, 2008 04:27 AM UTC
Could anyone of you tell me something about Panin in the East side of Paris.

And the metro station I am going to use is Hoche on RER 5.
RER 5 goes directly to Gare du Nord, right? So I can get to the hotel from the station directly by RER 5.

I know that the area is not in the middle of Paris but is OK I do not mind the location.

Thanks for your help.

Paris How much for the metro???
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 12:26 PM UTC
Hi all. I was wondering how much it is to travel on the metro? I am trying to find accomodation in Paris and it seems the further out you go the cheaper it is, so wanted to see roughly how much it would cost to use the metro every day as opposed to spending a bit more money for a place in central paris. Thanks!

This summer I'm going to Paris and I'd like to know where the cafe from the film Amélie is. Amélie works in this cafe and it was next to a kiosk, it has a red canopy, and benches and a tobacco stand inside.

Paris Any positive feedback on CDG Airport?
Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 12:11 PM UTC
I will go through CDG airport twice in July, arrival and departure. All the reviews I have read about the airport seem to paint a very grim picture. For example: bad signage, airport officers arrogant, disgusting toilets, bad & expensive food, long queues & delays, no seats, worse airport, not clean etc, can all that be true?

Paris Difference between the Metro and RER?
Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 08:15 PM UTC
Silly question probably... but what is the difference between the Metro and the RER?

I was researching on Google Maps the nearest station to my hotel (Prince Hotel Forum on Rue Rambuteau) and noted Les Halles (M) and Rambuteau (M) but when I zoomed in closer the Chatelet Les Halles (RER) appeared, which seems to be closer than the other two (thinking about walking with my luggage when I arrive).

If I searched through a lot of the old postings, I would probably find the answer - forgive me for being lazy :-)

Paris Advice on Buyback vs Hire Car in France
Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 03:44 PM UTC
I'm getting a lot of great advice from a previous posting regarding hiring a car in Europe however I'm still confused about the advantages and/or disadvantages of using the France 'buyback schemes' verses 'hire a car' from a rental company (eg Europcar). I am finding that hiring say a 307 Peugeot Estate (27 days)is at least AU$600 cheaper than using buyback for the same vehicle. I have also checked the fine print and have insurance (with an excess on hiring) in both cases. Can anyone explain why I would spend $600 more on buyback. Yes I know you get a new car but hire car ensures you have a car less than 6 months old. I'm really interested in your thoughts on either option. Hope you can help. Thanks Michael

Paris Itenirary dilemma- help!
Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 02:38 PM UTC
My son and I are visiting Paris for 2 1/2 days, getting in Saturday night around 6:00 pm. Saturday night we plan on doing the Eiffle Tower, and maybe Moulin Rouge, if we can catch the 11:00 show. We don't have tickets for this yet. Sunday, I was thinking of Versailles, for half a day, and maybe the Louvre for the other half. I know they are two "biggies" for one day, but we would want to just get a sense of being there, a quick look around Versailles, and a rush-in, look at Mona Lisa, stop at the Louvre. Monday we were thinking of the hop-on and off bus to see the rest of the city. Is this feasable? Any suggestions on how to maximize our two and a half days? Any and all replies very much appreciated! Thanks!

Paris Six Hour Layover in Paris....
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 12:02 AM UTC
Okay, before my head is bitten off, this is what I know so far. CGD is a mess; I also believe there is a 2 hour rule for international flights. I am flying from Stockholm to Los Angeles, all on Air France. I will have 6 hours between flights, with all luggage checked through to Los Angeles. I also highly doubt I will ever be back to Paris. If there is anyone reading this forum who would similarly be inclined to take a quick run into Paris and back, would you be so kind as to tell me how you would do it. (My flight from Stockholm arrives at 0940 and the flight to Los Angeles departs at 1540). Would it be best to take the RER B train in and back? I do know I will have precious little time in Paris but it is worth it to me to just try to get a glimpse of the Eiffel (Not go up it), etc. Thanks for anyone's help! I really appreciate it.

Paris Bars in Paris
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 04:46 PM UTC
Hi,

Me and 4 friends will be in Paris in a fortnight (for one weekend) and wondered if anybody had any suggestions as to what to do at night.

Is there a good 'area' for bars? Are there any sports bars / 'rock' bars (that play indie/rock music - other than Hard Rock Cafe / or just good places in general.

We don't want to spend half the night wandering around randomly trying to find places!

Thanks in advance.

Paris Tickets for Lido
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 07:08 AM UTC
My friend has never been to Paris, when we go there this July, I wish to bring her to a show at Lido, I know it is expensive, but if without dinner, how much will it be? And in Paris, where should I go to get the tickets for the Lido show?

Is it possible for me to dress in shirt, pants and leather shoes to be the audience of the show in Lido? Or do I have to wear pants suit?

Thank you for your kind attention.
