Hi all! We are arriving in Moscow on 30th December 2009 and want to be able to eat and drink and party a bit on new years eve...dont want to be walking the streets all night looking at shut doors on bars / restaurants so would love some good advice about places / if we need to book (and how!), etc...
Thanks in advance x
This is Courtney, PR manager of VT and I have a quick question for you--has anyone been to the new chocolate museum in Moscow? I heard that it opened in March of this year, but I can't find anything on the internet about it.
If you've been, I'd love to know about it--we're working on a possible press release about candy and chocolate museums/factories.
What is the best way to get from Domodedovo airport to the city centre? Is public transport reliable/easy? What is a normal price for a taxi?
I will be in Moscow between 25-29 October, are there any special events in this period?
I will be in Moscow with two friends for the football world cup qualifier game Russia vs. Germany in October. I speak some basic Russian and I was already in Moscow for more than a week in 2005, so I know roughly what to expect.
However, I would like to hear your restaurant recommendations for Moscow. We are probably very easy people and are therefore open for almost everything.
The location of the restaurant should be easy to find and more or less located somewhere near the city centre.
I know all this is not very precise, so just feel free to post your favourite place.
My flight will arrive at 6:30 (from tehran to miscow) and my st petersburg ticket is for 10:40(moscow to st petrsburg).
would you please tell me if 4 houres is enough to get the second flight and how I have to pass the distance between domestic and international terminals(by taxi or bus or walking?).
We will be located at the North River Port on the river cruise ship Rossia. What is best way to see Moscow by Night starting from there (about 15 minutes walk to metro).
I am looking for a local person to be a guide in Moscow for my brother and me. We arrive September 8 and I would like a guide for a couple of days beginning Sept. 9. I had a local gal in Minsk last March and that worked out well.
We are easy going and I don't want a guide from a professional company.
The only requirements would be a person who speaks fair to good English and would help us see some of the attractions on Red Square and know how to get tickets and how to ride the subway and show us a reasonable place for lunch. They don't have to be an expert on every site in Moscow.
At the moment we plan on staying at the HM hostel which is close to Red Square.
I would pay a fair rate plus pay for any food or transportation and for lunch.
Again, we are a little older, but young at heart, easy to be with, not critical, good walkers, and would just like to meet a local person who would
be flexible and help us not get lost in the big city!
thx
Ray
I have recently read reports that this is now closed and I had it on my itinery to visit. Does anyone know if it is open or closed or if part of it is still open to visit. Many thanks
Does anyone know if this restaurant is still open? It sounds rather lovely and I would like to take my family there. Has anyone any experiences of it? If not can anyone recommend a lovely restaurant for my daughters 21st birthday. Many thanks
I will be in Moscow in October for 8 days and I was already in Russia in 2005, so I have a rough idea of Visa registration and stuff like this.
Only I realised that the registration rules have changed a bit since 2005.
This time I will stay 3 days in a hotel and 5 days somewhere else, probably in a private accomodation.
I assume that my hotel will nly register me for the 3 days I stay there, or do you think there will be chances that they register me for my whole stay in Moscow (8 days), even when not staying all the time in the hotel?
If I get the registration for only these 3 days, do I then still need to get a registration for the other 5 days from my private landlord, whoever that is?
I think in theory the answer is "yes", but what problems will I be facing if I have the registration only for my first three days in Moscow?
I've just returned from a wonderful trip to St. Petersbourg and Moscow. I bought all my excursions through a Swiss travel agency and paid 65 for a Kremlin visit. Afterwards I was told that it would have been must cheaper to buy the ticket directly at the Kremlin. Nobody could name a price, though. Does anyone know how much it costs to visit the Kremlin if you buy your ticket
directly there? Are the prices the same for foreigners as for Russians?
I would like to go back there travelling independantly and to visit the Kremlin again.
Is it alright to take the Aeroexpress train from Savyolovsky vokzal to the air port Sheremetyevo? Is it easy to find the entrance to get to Sheremetyevo 2 for international flight? Or I should take the taxi directly to the airport? Thanks in advance.
I'm goin to Moscow August 1st with my mom. She was invited to an art show in Moscow to show some of her paintings. I'm really excited about the trip but I just don't wanna get stuck with my mom the whole time haha. I am 26/M/California. I don't plan on partying the whole time but I really want to check out the nightclubs in Moscow one or two nights while I'm there. I'm just looking for friendly people to go out with a night or two. I just don't think it would be smart or safe for me to go alone. Hopefully someone is up for going out, or at least maybe someone could point me in the right direction? Hope to hear from ANYONE!
i'll be having my trip to paris via svo-2.im planning to drop my luggage in the airport first, and have a trip to kremlin and red square. can i know where to drop the luggage in the airport? i never been there.thanks
This radio was a great companion on a visit to Moscow in 2005. It's been several months, I've been unable to listen to it on the internet. Anyone know if there is a stream? Spasiba.
Hi,
I am going to Moscow, and i will have time to visit the Leninīs Mausoleum only during the weekend. Is there a big difference in queues there between weekend and week days? How soon before opening must I come to ensure, that i get in ? The tomb is open at 10 a.m., is it enough to came around 8 a.m.? Although the entrance is free, is there some way to skip the queue with paying extra money to a "guide" ? (i have heard about this possibility)...
Thanks
Hi - I am staying in St. Petersburg for 3 nights, one night on the overnight train to Moscow and then three nights in Moscow. Both the St. Petersburg and Moscow hotels told me that they would provide letters of sponsorship for only the duration of my stay at each hotel. Will I need a third visa support document for the night that I am on the train?
Hi,
Having previously visited Moscow I find it a wonderful vibrant city with so much to see. I am hoping to return again as there are many museums and galleries etc I would like to visit. I would be pleaed to communicate with anyone involved with poetry or other literature and Arts. It would be very nice to meet with some Moscow residents who have similar interests-hopefully i regret to ask with some English as I am not fluent enough for lengthy conversations.
just need some info on russian currency. i'm going be helping out a friend in E Russia with some funds (cash). ok, on currency conversion, i see that 1000 US dollars convert to - 31305 RUB (rouble). so, my question is.. is that alot in RUB? and also, based on current russian economy, would that go along way for someone who's in their early 20's, going to school, working, has their own car.. has living expenses, etc.? so , yeah, just basically wanting to know is 31305 RUB alot, and would my friend be able to stretch that out a little? i know they are good with money, and responsible.. just asking these questions to get an idea. and the $1000 is not a set in stone number.. i may decide to send a little more. just depends on the input i get ;)
I am going to St Petersburg via Moscow and have 2 hours to change terminals afer arriving at terminal 2 and departing from terminal1 on Aeroflot around 14.15 hrs. Will the time be sufficient. Do foreigners again have to go through immigration at terminal 1 . Any special care to be taken for faster transit please suggest.
Hello,
Making a short trip to Moscow in May and wondered if there is anywhere I can go, such as a church tower or tall building, to take some birds-eye photographs of the city - especially the Red Square & Kremlin areas.
We are taking our daughter to Moscow for her 21st birthday, as she has always wanted to go there. Can anyone recommend something special that we can do on her actual birthday? Any special events etc. Obviously we will be visiting all the sites and attending the Kremlin/circus/ballet/river cruise/museums etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hello VT friends.
We are a group of 5 people ( only English spoken) trying to get train tickets from Moscow to St Petersburg in August 4th 2009, I found an information in the Moscow Times on line about two central ticket office booth designated for foreigners located near the Yaroslavsky Station: one is kassa 45 on the second floor of the administrative building between Yaroslavsky and Leningradsky stations. The other is the Central Railway Agency at 5 Komsomolskaya Ploshchad.
The information date is 2007, I wonder if these offices are still working and how risky could be to try to get the tickets just one day in advance.
All the internet places to buy train tickets add 50% or + to the price.
Together with 3 friends I'll visit Moscow next summer. I wonder where to stay. Although I'd appreciate concrete hotel tips too, I am especially intrested in hints about the quarter, where the chosen hotel should be situated. Safety, the possibility to go out at night and vicinity to top-sights (or at least effortless reachability to the sights) are important for us...
I am looking into traveling to Russia next year - come into St. Petersburg, leave from Moscow. I have been looking at the visa rules in the following site:
http://moscow.usembassy.gov/russian-visas.html
I know you need a sponsor, a visa, and you need to register the Visa, but when we start getting into the Migration card and sponsorship availability in case of problems, I am a tad unclear/unexperienced.
- If you are arranging the trip yourself and working with the concierge in a hotel to obtain the invitation, is the hotel then you sponsor who you need to contact in case of any problems with your Russian visa?
- Is the entry and exit visa in the same Visa document, - or does an entry and exit visa need to be separately requested.
- Are you able to wait until your Visa gets registered at the hotel, or does this visa registration process take longer?
We were planning to arrive in St. Petersburg and return from Moscow. Because the "sponsor" would need to be available to help with any visa issues,
- would you recommend arriving and departing from the same place, i.e Moscow, to mitigate any visa issues, or does it matter?
If your visa sponsor is a hotel employee (this is a reputable hotel part of the Starwood chain), and for any reason this person stops working in the hotel, what happens? Will the hotel manager or head concierge become your sponsor?
- Would the sponsor then perhaps be the company that is being utilized by the hotel to provide the guide/driver?
Hi,
As far as I know the prices for the apartments will be highly increased during Eurovision. Could someone advise an apartment for reasonable price just for this period of time? Thanx in advance.
I am contemplating a week long stay in the "world's most expensive city" sometime in June. Having spent most of my money on my last trip, I'm hoping to get the most "bang for my buck" in Russia. If I stay in cheap hostels, utilize public transportation, buy groceries or dine in very inexpensive eateries, and minimize souvenir spending, how much can I expect to pay realistically? I appreciate your thoughts and help.
