i see on JR site is that the night train we have to pay for the accomodation .. dont look cheap to me ...

I have 3 days open during my trip to Japan next month. I’ve never been to Sapporo and was thinking about using the last 3 days of my Rail Pass to go there from Tokyo and back but I have concerns about the train service during winter. Are the scheduled train services affected by winter storms if so, how often?

I am very interested in purchasing bottles of the Genghis Khan sauce. I saw it in Sapporo. Any idea how I can order it?

In April I and two other students will arrive to Chitose airport in Sapporo and will need to spend one night in a hotel, have you anything to recommend? Since we cannot afford anything too expensive, the price is the main issue but I also want it to be close to transportation. Any suggestions?

Is this a nice hostel "Ino's Place", is the location easy to reach? What type of transportation can I take from the Airport to this hostel directly?
For a private double room 4,300 yen each person, do you think this is reasonable?

My grandmother was born in Fukuoka-Ken and before she left Japan for the United States in 1953 she was living in Sapporo Japan. I have the exact address where she lived and area. I want to get the Koseki for her since she left behind a brother and sister. I also want to know if anyone can help me translate a page written in Japanese. I think it might have been her passport but not sure. Feel free to email me.

I plan to go to Hokkaido at Christmas with my girlfriend.
We will spend 1 night in Sapporo and then have booked into a pension for 4 days in Furano.

My question is:

What can we do in those four days in Furano? We are not "skiers" but would like to try some snow sports. Anyone recommend any other activities? Onsens? Day trips in a rented car? Do you think that 4 days is too long? Are we going to freeze our butts off?

Hi we are planning for a trip to Hokkaido and Sapporo is going to be our base. Our current problem is that our departing flight from Saporro leaves early at 0750 so not sure how can we get to the airport on time. We should be living in Saporro city near the Saporro station. But not sure how early does the Airport Express start? Don't really want to do Taxi as it is way too pricey. Any other suggestion? Our flight flies from Saporro to Nagoya to Shanghai.

I will be transiting twice in July at Sapporo New Chitose airport and was wondering if anyone had a good (cheap) address/accomodation to recommend.

So far my travel agent told me about ANA and Mitsui hotel but those are too expensive (+- 200USD).

Traditional accomodation could also be an option ...

We are in sapporo in 3 weeks for this yrs festival and have heard that this winter is v bad in Japan,so am hoping for advice as to what clothes to bring!! Lots of layers i guess, and will we need moon boots in the city or are the streets/pavements clear? Would love to travel light but HATE being cold!! All advice will be helpful... plus can anyone tell me the current exchange rate for english pounds to yen? Have had conflicting advice to change money when in Japan but others saying to get it here before we leave....Thanks!!

Any of you guys know where I can find info on those home-style accomodation in Sapporo? those small traditional houses with tatami beds etc... (forgot what they're calld : P )

I live in Kanazawa-shi, and have been everywhere in Japan except for Hokkaido and Okinawa. Have a friend who wants to go and see the Ice Festival from Feb 11-13. Are there any cheap travel packages out there including transportation and hotel? Any help would be great! Is there a nigh train from anywhere? We could leave the 10th at night.

i'm planning to spend a holiday on Sapporo on the early november probably. also, i have made a reservation on the Sapporo International YH ( URL : http://www.youthhostel.or.jp/kokusai/ ). its price is really reasonable but i do have some questions :

1. does anyone live there before? if so, how did u feel ?
2. is there any single shower room ? i think i couldn't get use to shower in public shower room ^_^"
3. if i get to the hostel from the New Chitose Airport, i think i have to make an interchange from JR Sapporo to Sapporo subway. then i will make a change at Sapporo Station or at Odori Station?
4. what is the average outdoor temperature at both daytime and night time at Sapporo on the early to mid- november ?

This is our group's tentative plan:

13-16 dec: Tokyo
17-21 dec: Hokkaido
22 dec: Tokyo Narita back to Singapore

Which is more economical?
1) By flight from Tokyo to Sapporo and back (Air Do 10,000 yen 1-way ticket) and travelling ard Hokkaido by buying daily train/bus tickets.

2) Buy a 7-days JR pass and activate from 16-21 dec. That means we will be travelling by daytime trains. We don't really mind spending 2 days on travelling. However, are there any extra costs that are not covered by the JR pass (eg. limited express train)

I require some advice urgently. Pls help. Thank you very much.

I plan on coming back to Japan for the third time in May 2005, but this time will be learning Japanese in Sapporo ,at IAYfor month or longer. need a place to stay, preferably with nice Japanese family. I will of course be only to happ yto pay reasonable rate for room and board. I can supply any references you may need.Please advise if interested.
P.S. Also planning to stay elsewhere in Japan for some time. prior to arrival in Sapporo

I will be in Chitose in Jan of 2005 and would like to know if the place is still the same. I visited the Cotton Club once and really enjoyed myself. Is that still there or is there another place that one can enjoy himself in the late evenings.

Am flying into Chitose airport on 24th december to see my girlfriend for christmas/ new year and have been pretty organised up till now, ie booked flights to tokyo then the flights to chitose etc etc even booked the hotel and a hire car oh clever me! BUT i have no idea of where the hotel is from the airport I have the address of course but it does not mean much to me has anyone any information of good clear sapporo road maps ones with road names on etc this would bw of great help thankyou Mark Russell!!!

Can anyone advise the best and cheapest way to get to the Chitose airport from Sapporo city by 7am? I need to be there before 7am and it seems that JR only starts at 8am?

I'm planning trip to Hokkaido & will depart from Singapore. Appreciate advise from VTs the best air fare to travel there?

What other are the must see/visit places in Hokkaido, my travelling period will be in Sep/Oct for about 8 days.

hello, i am going to tomamu to do some snowboarding. but if i were to get a room at one of the five major hotels there, it is very expensive. are their any other places to stay at tomamu outside of the five major hotels (like any local small ryoukans, etc.)?
