Hello, i am interested in finding some possible hotels in Penjamo. We have a pretty large group (8 adults, 6 children) traveling there Dec.17 - 25. I've been looking, but can only find a couple. Are there any hotels in the center of town or near the center of town? thanks.

Guanajuato Still Safe in Guanajuato?
Posted: Thu March 19, 2009 11:31 PM UTC
I'm planning a return trip to Guanajuato and am wondering if the situation has changed there? I was there last summer and it seemed pretty unthreatening but the news is giving me second thoughts about the whole country. Anybody have recent experience in Guanajuato?

Guanajuato When is the best time to fly to Leon Guanajuato (BJX)?
Posted: Fri October 3, 2008 12:06 AM UTC
We need to plan a family reunion, and money is an issue. Im wondering what time of year is most affordable? Do we save by buying our tickets with months in advance? What about the weather? I have never been there so have no experience. :(

I just need to find the most affordable rates, we are a family of four so it adds up quickly.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, we would be flying out of LAX.

Guanajuato Teatro Juarez Performances, Etc.
Posted: Tue February 12, 2008 11:17 PM UTC
My wife and I will be in Guanajuato from Feb 23 to March 1 and were interested in seeing a performance of some kind at the Teatro Juarez. A play, a concert, anything really. I have googled it but I can't find any information or schedule. How can I get information on performances and maybe book tickets?

Also, we would like to go out dancing...salsa or whatever...we are fair dancers. While I firmly believe that 40 is the new 30, we wondered if there was place with live music and dancing that had a more adult clientele. Just some place that was not a college crowd.

Thanks,

Arne

Guanajuato Travel To Butterfly Sanctuary from Guanajuato
Posted: Tue January 22, 2008 10:28 PM UTC
My wife and I are planning a week long stay in Guanajuato in February. We mostly plan to relax and enjoy Guanajuato but she is very curious to see the monarch butterflies. How far is it from Guanajuato to the butterfly sanctuaries? Are there organized day trips? Is there a recommendation how to do this if we wanted to take a couple of days and make this trip?

Thanks,

Guanajuato Travel to San Miguel de Allende
Posted: Sat January 19, 2008 10:19 PM UTC
Is there regular daily bus travel to San Miguel de Allende from Guanajuato?

We'll be spending a week in Guanajuato in mid-February, but are considering going to San Miguel on two of those days since that's where we originally wanted to go there for the week.

Anyone know how long this trip might be?

Thanks much.

Guanajuato One week in Gunajuato in November
Posted: Fri September 28, 2007 04:57 PM UTC
Hi,

I have booked a flight for a one week visit to Mexico in November. I've been to Oaxaxa several times before, and to the Yucatan. This time I thought I'd try Guanajuato, from things I read and photos I've seen, it looks like a nice place to relax, do a little exploring, and soak up some local culture.

I'm trying to decide if I should just base myself in Guanajuato for the week , and do day trips to a few other places, or to spend 1/2 the time in Gunajuato and 1/2 in San Miguel. I hear good things about San Miguel, but I'm afraid it might be too crowded with Americans, and I might not get as much of the local culture there. Any suggestions?

Guanajuato San Miguel to Dolores Hidalgo
Posted: Wed February 14, 2007 09:12 PM UTC
Hello,
I will be in SMDA for 2.5 days and I wanted to visit Dolores Hidalgo for one of those days....just to check out the pottery. I'm not too keen on spending $25 on a taxi one way. What are some other options for getting to DH? Do 1st class busses run that route? Collectivos? Thank you in advance for any information.

Guanajuato What do do with our car
Posted: Wed October 25, 2006 02:49 AM UTC
Hi All
My husband and I drove our car to GTO and will be staying in the Centro Historico for the next month. We can now see that this is definitely not a driving town. Streets are beyond narrow and very congested. There is an amazing and to the novice, a very scary warren of subterranean tunnels. Parking seems virtually non-existent. Does anyone have any idea where we can pay to leave our car. We figure we will use it for sidetrips out of town only. It needs to be secure and not too expensive. Someplace we could take a cab to once or twice a week.
I know this is an obscure question but any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Guanajuato Only one day in Guanajuato
Posted: Tue July 25, 2006 02:08 PM UTC
What would be your suggestions for my whirlwind tour? I'm a photographer and the city looks drop-dead-beautiful, so I'd like to go to some of the more photogenic places. Also would like to get in a wee bit of shopping. I've heard that university students can be hired to guide you about the city. True? If so, what would be a fair price to pay?

Guanajuato Bus from Ciudad Juarez
Posted: Thu February 9, 2006 12:46 AM UTC
We are heading from Ciudad Juarez to Leon and Guanajuato for Corona Rally Mexico, and are trying to get bus information. I've taken the bus from CJ to DF before (after missing the train... fun!), but I can't find a schedule anywhere on buses to Guanajuato from CJ. Estrella Blanca and Omnibus de Mexico appear to offer this route, but their website horarios/destinos pages are not functional, and I'm just not sure. CJ's Camionera Central doesn't seem to have a phone number...

Any suggestions? (Any tips on great restaurants/cafes/art-stuff in Gto or Leon would also be greatly appreciated, too)

Thank you!

Guanajuato Cult of Death, in Museum of Mummies
Posted: Sat September 3, 2005 08:05 AM UTC
If anyone is going to the museum of the mummmies, there is also, in the same building, a cult of death museum, with a vampire mummy in the floor...I did not get a picture of something in there that has been haunting me, a mummified baby in a case on the wall. If anyone has a picture or could get one, would you kindly let me know? Thanks for reading, and brilliant travels to all.

Guanajuato Preference for a particular colonial city north of Mexico City for a one-week stay learning Spanish
Posted: Fri July 1, 2005 07:30 AM UTC
Hi everyone!

I'm considering studying in Mexico for one week and would like to know which colonial city north of Mexico is preferred for my short stay?

Without knowing more, Guanajuato sounds goods for many reasons, but maybe preferable for a short stay because I can fly directly into Leon Airport and then have just a 45-minute ride to the city. My understanding is that otherwise, it's a 5-hour ride fro Mexico City.

By the way, I'll be flying from Los Angeles, California if that is any help.

Thanks,
oslocairo

Guanajuato Taxis from BJX airport
Posted: Wed April 20, 2005 10:26 PM UTC
My husband and I are thrilled to get some time away from our kids and visit a city we fell in love with 7 years ago when we first went to Guanajuato. We will be arriving by plane in the airport closeby at Leon. I've seen recent warnings about taxi crimes (mostly in Mexico City), so I wanted to be sure to ask about any tips taking taxis from the airport to Guanajuato or around close-by areas. Are they pretty safe there in this region? Last time we were there we took buses and taxis all around the states of Michoacan, Guanajuato and Jalisco. Also, any opinions on what are some good day trips and any good tour guides to use? We'll only be there for 5 days and we want to make the most of it!

Guanajuato Need advice on study in Guanajuato
Posted: Wed December 29, 2004 06:29 PM UTC
I am considering a Spanish Immersion course in
Guanajuato. It will be 4-6 months because I really want to improve my language skill which is about Intermediate level. I don't know much about the city and would love to get any advice about courses, or hear about personal experiences in the city. The course I am considering is through Don Quijote
and will cost about $2400 for 6 months. The lodging costs $102 per week for a student flat. Is this expensive for the area? Also about how much money do you think I would need to bring for food, shopping, and other misc expenses. I am really a novice at travelling, and have never been out of the country so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
