I posted this question yesterday, but perhaps I didn't add it correctly as it is not there or recorded in my account info.

I am looking for old pictures, and information on the history, of the Shalyapin Palace Hotel. I am specifically interested in the history of the Smolentzev and Shmelev trading house and I believe that the building is now the Shalyapin Palace Hotel. Could anyone give me some information or direct me to where I can find informaiton or old pictures? Is there verification that these are the same buildings, and is there information on the former owners. They were apparently E. Smolentzev and N.P. Shmelev. I believe these were Efim Smolentzev and Nikolai Pavlovich Shmelev and would like to find out information on this building and its owners, and whether there are any remenants or signs of these former owners in this building. My family is planning a trip to visit the city in the future and we have a great interest in this building.

Need info on direct flight from USA to Kazan...then travel onward to the city of Vyatskiye Polyany, (in Republic of Kirov). Vyatskiye Polyany is located about 80 mile East/Northeast of Kazan. Would appreciate hotel/B&B/restraunt recommendations for Kazan and/or Vyatskiye Polyany. Some assitance please; I was contacted by a person in Kazan, Russia. We have been sending e-mails for about two weeks and I have noticed that my questions don't get answered. She sent me her address, and I sent her a letter via UPS a week ago. UPS tells me that they can't deliver the letter because the address is incomplete. How can I find out if this person is for real and not scamming me? And how can I find out if this address is correct? I receive pictures with all her e-mails, but how can I know it her.

I can set up the flight through internet sites like Priceline, Cheap Tickets , Expedia , etc.....I have shopped on those sites and the tickets seem to be the cheapest on Priceline......But you are saying it is best to set up the Hotel through a Travel Agency in Kazan? Do you have a name of an Agency?
Why go to Kazan??? Its all about the Sushi.....if you know what I mean.........:)

Hello to all. I have a question about scamms. A woman from Kazan contacted by internet. We exchanged e-mails and have been coresponding for about a week now. It all just seems a little strange to me. She gave me her adress, she has been sending me pictures (but who's to say that it is her). I was really interested to learn about the city as I have been looking it up on the net. Anyway it would be nice to know if this woman is sincere. I have been contacted before by 2 other women in the past claiming to be from Russia and they dropped of the face of the earth after a few e-mails. I admit it I am ignorant...lol.. someone enlighten me.....Wayne

I am looking for accomodations in Kazan, nothing fancy, could be guest houses, hotels, motels anything I just need a confortable bed and a bathroom . Is there any Internet Cafes in Kazan ? Shall I rent a car there ? It will be easy to use credit cards, while I am there ? Do I need a special VISA to go to Tatarstan ? Can I go there with my Russian Tourist Visa ?
