We are flying into Benito Juarez airport and want to know if you can get a bus to SMA from the terminal at that airport or do you have to take a cab to a different location? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

San Miguel de Allende Things to do...Cooking classes?
Posted: Wed March 5, 2008 05:56 PM UTC
Hello VTers.
I'm headed to San Miguel for 3 nights in a few weeks with my boyfriend and his parents. We already have a place to stay, but are looking for things to do. I've never been, but I hear there's lots of shopping and good restaurants. I was hoping someone might know of an english cooking class? And cost?
Anything else we HAVE to see or do?
Thanks, as always!

San Miguel de Allende Limit on personal property on a tourist visa
Posted: Mon November 12, 2007 05:07 PM UTC
I will be driving down to San Miguel de Allende in a couple months. I have been dismayed by the very limited list of articles a person entering with an FMT may bring with them into Mexico! I will be down there for 3-6 months and would like to bring a few pieces of electronic equipment, more than 5 CDs(!), etc. How can I get advanced approval for these items so I don't run into customs trouble at the border? Thanks!

San Miguel de Allende Which airport to fly into
Posted: Mon July 2, 2007 12:31 PM UTC
Greetings,

We'll be visiting SMA around Thanksgiving. I know the best seems to be to fly into Leon or Queretaro and the drives are 1 1/2 and 1 hours respectively. I do want to avoid Mexico City but see some good fare to Guadalajara. Does anyone know how far that is and how long it would take from there to SMA?

Cheers,

Douglas

San Miguel de Allende September in San Miguel
Posted: Wed March 28, 2007 04:14 PM UTC
We - a couple who live in Todos Santos, BCS - plan to travel for the month of September on the mainland. We would like to spend a week in San Miguel and are looking for a small self-contained casita to rent. We do not need a huge kitchen - just enough space and necessities to prepare breakfast and lunch. We have a guest casita in Todos Santos and would consider a trade - the trade to be used at a time convenient to both parties. Our casita can be seen at www.casasofiabaja.com We are also willing to pay rent - maybe $650 a week? We will be traveling by bus and would like central accommodations. Please let us know if you have any suggestions.

San Miguel de Allende Research, American Retirees
Posted: Sun December 3, 2006 05:18 PM UTC
Hi,

I'm a senior at Allegheny College, a small school near Pittsburgh, PA,and am writing a thesis about the role of American retirees in Mexico. I would like to speak to a few individuals about what attracted them to Mexico, how they perceive Americans' integration in San Miguel, and how visible the foreign presence is in the community. I am familiar with the area, having spent a semester in Queretaro and am fluent in Spanish. If you or someone you know would be willing to give me feedback I would greatly appreciate it!

San Miguel de Allende Moving to San Miguel In January
Posted: Sat October 28, 2006 10:34 PM UTC
Hello,

I am a 25 year old certified TEFL english teacher, just returning from Guadalajara. I am planning on making a 6 month move down to San Miguel at the beginning of the new year. I have no idea where I am going to stay and dont think that showing up at the start of the busy season without any accomodation set up is a good idea. Any suggestions on cheap but nice rooms, B&B's, hotels, hostels etc.?

Also, I have heard that finding work as an english teacher in San Miguel can be difficult. Will it be easy for a beginner spanish speaker to find work? I have extensive administrative experience and I am also a licensed esthetician. I need to know that I will be able to live and thrive in San Miguel if teaching doesnt work out. Any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Posted: Fri August 4, 2006 12:26 AM UTC
I'm a 25 year old student, artist + mother looking for semi-long term (3-6 month, and possibly longer) housing in San Miguel de Allende or Guanajuato. I need an aptartment or casita, studio or 1 bedroom, with basic furnishings, hot, reliable water, and most importatnly a safe neighborhood. I have a six month old son and so this is very important to me. I am familiar with SMA, less so with GTO but I am open to living in either location, as well as Queretaro, and other cities in central Mexico. If you know of anything pls. let me know, I'd be very happy!

San Miguel de Allende Shopping in San Miguel
Posted: Mon June 26, 2006 06:12 PM UTC
Hi, I'll be in San Miguel for 5 days in july, and as a new home owner in NY :), will be looking for furnishings, light fixtures, etc. Any suggestions? After SMA, I'll be heading down to Guadalajara and will get a chance to visit Tlaquepaque and Tonala (where I have been numerous times before). Are there still unique and interesting stores to visit in SMA or should I leave the shopping until I get to GDL?

Thank you,

Eugene

San Miguel de Allende Looking for Art Studio/Living Space
Posted: Wed May 24, 2006 01:07 AM UTC
I'm looking for a sparsely furnished living space to rent in SMA where i could also set up as a painting studio for 8months-1year -- i need something practical and basic -- a kitchen and bathroom, the rest could be open or unfinished as long as it were lockable and liveable

Does anyone know of anything or any direction I could go in my research? I'm finding only furnished vacation rentals or luxury year round rentals online and its not exactly what i'm looking for...

please reply or email me with any information --THX

San Miguel de Allende apartment/casita rental in SMA
Posted: Tue January 10, 2006 05:38 AM UTC
Hola Amigos,
I lived in SMA in 2002 for 8 months and know the town pretty well, but hear that it's changed quite a bit since I was there. I'm thinking about relocating back around March or so, and was wondering what the situation with apartments and casitas is these days. When I was there before I had a very nice little one bedroom house in San Antonio, fully furnished (ok, no tv) for 350US. Is cheap housing still available? I've heard that the property prices have gone crazy, but is it still possible to rent something furnished and nice for around 300US? I imagine also that high speed internet is readily availible, but could someone confirm the price, and reliability of Mexican high speed. THX.

San Miguel de Allende Wondering about opening a B&B in San Miguel??
Posted: Wed November 30, 2005 04:02 AM UTC
What are the ingredients for operating a successful B&B (or bed, breakfast and dinner during winter months) in a beautiful place like San Miguel? Well, I will certainly be looking into this when I spend 4 months there starting Jan/06. I've run a successful marketing agency, I LOVE people...especially those visiting from all over the world. I'm a fabulous cook but need to take Mexican dish classes while there...ok. Spanish lessons too lol. But above all, from everything I've read on this wonderful site, San Miguel has it all! Thanks so much to all who have emailed warm welcome messages. I'd love to hear other success stories in this arena (B&B) and also to do some brainstorming with others considering the same ... we can do it over a bbq at my place in San Miguel. Regards to all ~ Linda
