passports Posted: Tue June 9, 2009 10:05 PM UTC
Well my cousins and I are planning to drive to Tijuana June 26th, just for a weekend. But I do not have a passport! Of course I have my birth certificate and a valid US ID, but I heard that its the law now that you need to have a passport to come back to the US. But Its pretty much impossible for me to get one by the 26th of this month! It takes forever to get it mailed to you. What would be the consequences if I go without a passport?

Kids in Tijuana Posted: Wed January 7, 2009 12:29 AM UTC
Hi, I'm a student of a liberal arts high school. Me and a few classmates, as well as about five adults, teachers, translators, documentary directors and such, are all going to Tijuana in order to document illegal immigration and some of the humanitarian crisis. I really want to go but from what I understand I have some things to fear. I mostly want to go to do a report on the street kids. I know they're mostly like me, but I am a little ashamed to admit that I am afraid of them. Does anyone have any tips or ideas to stay safe. Mostly ideas that don't have to do with 'just don't go'. Comments are so very appreciated.

Going North across the boarder Posted: Thu January 1, 2009 03:33 AM UTC
We always cross at Tecate because we are from Colorado. We happen to be in Calif. the last time we went to Baja and going south it was a snap. After the winter we needed to go back to Riverside Calif so we went back through TJ. Untill we got close to the crossing things seemed to be somewhat marked but at the last moment things did not go good as we missed the turnoff to the boarder and went east a long way untill we could turn around and get back to the west crossing. Help! Is there a good map showing the way north or help as to what to look for?? Thanks Steve

Under the arch Posted: Tue December 16, 2008 02:54 AM UTC
My first visit to Tijuana, we were at a large brick fallen wall on the main street of Los Revolution, just under the new large arch of modern Tijuana. The old brick wall had many arches and would not have been made to stop people from crossing through. We would like to learn the history of this wall, and why there is a jail with a prisoner on top of the mound built in front.
Thanks, Judie

TIJ Authorized Taxi from Border Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 02:44 AM UTC
What are the names of the five taxi companies authorized to service the Tijuana Airport and is it possible to get one of those cabs from the Otay Mesa border crossing to the airport? If so, which side of the border will they pick us up? How much should it cost to go the 2.9 miles from the Otay Mesa crossing to TIJ? How safe are they?

College kid in TJ?? Help! I'm the MOM! Posted: Thu March 20, 2008 01:19 AM UTC
My son is a student at UC San Diego, 19-years-old, good head on his shoulders (is that an oxymoron for 19-year-old??) He wants to go to Tijuana on a Saturday night with a group of friends, and take a taxi from the border area to a night club called Koko Bongo, or something like that. I want to tell him NO, but I'm asking for advice. Assuming the kids don't get falling-down drunk, which I don't think they will, is it safe??? He can't go until I send him a copy of his birth certificate. He has a driver's license and picture school ID, but I believe he needs a copy of his birth certificate to cross the border. I'm so TORN!! HELP!!

Walking Into Tijuana Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 07:09 PM UTC
Can a person park their car on the US boarder and walk into Tijuana? Is this advisable? My kids 13 and 11 want to go into Mexico when we are in California. I thought this might be the easiest to do. Tell me more about entering Mexico and returning to the US. How long will it take to cross?

how to get to rosarito beach from the Tijuana airport economically Posted: Sat January 5, 2008 08:39 PM UTC
Hi there: Does anyone have suggestions on an economical way to get from the Tijuana airport to Rosarito Beach. We (two adults) are staying at World International Vacation Club in Rosarito Beach. We have never been there, and never seen Tijuana. We are in pretty good shape, but might be a little ovewhelmed in Tijuana. We will have some luggage with us and be tired from a day of flying. I read about Mexicoach, but I cant see if they are located right at the airport or not?
Thanks

Tijuana Nightlife & Accomodation Posted: Fri October 19, 2007 06:05 AM UTC
Looking to travel to TJ for one night. 3 men on business trip stopover to Vegas. Is it worthwhile staying overnight or should we do a day trip from San Diego (if so what time does latest bus go back). Heard a lot of reports about TJ not being to safe at night. Do not want red light / strip crap just good bars and clubs with nice women. Are there any good quality resorts near 'revolution' area. Can anyone help.
Thanks

Asylee Permanent Resident Posted: Tue October 9, 2007 03:18 AM UTC
Hey there,
I'm planning for a trip to TJ in May 2008. My dilemma is that I became a "green card" holder through political asylum which means I have no passport from my country of origin. I can get a travel document( I131) as a "passport" but it cost $305 and can take up to 4-6months. Does anybody know if my green card is sufficient for getting into Mexico without I 131(travel document)? I'm travelling from Chicago to San Diego then entering by car into TJ. I'm a college student and I am soo upset that Mexico is requiring a passport wheras US doesn't require a passport for a green card holder to enter back into the US.

Do you need a passport Posted: Tue October 2, 2007 12:28 PM UTC
Hi - do you need your passport to take the trip from San Diego directly into Mexico if you take that bus. If not, do you need some form of ID to get to Mexico or does the bus just go on through with all passengers? Well, I guess you would need some ID coming back anyway, but just wondering what the story is going there!

Quick visit to Tijuana, what do we need to bring with us? Posted: Fri September 7, 2007 03:46 PM UTC
We are meeting with some relatives in Tijuana and returning to the U.S., does anyone know what is the less worse bridge to cross back and forth? The best timing as well... this is for early november.
We are only driving to the Airport of Tijuana and back.
If there is change of plans, I might do the same for Mexicali in case they end traveling there.. If someone knows more info, I would really appreciate your input!
Thanks in advance!

Border Closed due to protesting? Posted: Fri August 31, 2007 05:00 PM UTC
Hey Guys,
Does anyone know if the border will close this weekend because of protesting on the Mexico side? My mom called this morning to say she saw a news report about this last night as she was falling asleep, so she doesn't feel she can trust what she heard.
I've tried the Border Patrol website and Univision, but no luck.

French Citizen Posted: Thu August 23, 2007 06:14 PM UTC
Hello,
I am a US citizen and my girlfriend is a French Citizen staying here with me in the US. Her 90 day visa waiver is up in the first week of october. We'd like to buy ourselves a little more time (another 90 days) but don't want to go through all the marriage/immirgration hassle just yet. She doesn't have a green card, etc. All she has is her valid passport and california state issed ID + her social security card when she used to study here a few years back
So we plan to go to mexico for the weekend and re-enter so she doesnt have to necessarily fly back to France to re-enter. As you can immagine, the cost of driving to mexico is much cheaper than flying LAX/CDG.
If anyone has any imput, comments, or advice on what I will expect at the re-entry border let me know :) Thank you all!
Sincerely,
A poor man in love with a non-us citizen who is sick of the US immigration policy and its astronomical hike of application fees!

Getting back to the US by land with just the green card Posted: Thu August 16, 2007 07:32 PM UTC
What are the latest passport requirements when crossing the border back into the US by land? I am a Canadian citizen residing in the US on a green card. Unfortunately my Canadian passport has expired and it takes months for them to renew it, just like in the US. Will I be able to come back to the US just with my green card and my California drivers license? Am I running any risks? Is there any one crossing point where they are more relaxed on the rules?
I would greatly appreciate any information you might have!
Thanks,
Christine

Taxi Cost? Posted: Mon July 30, 2007 05:47 PM UTC
This maybe a stupid question, but oh well. I see all over the postings the usual cost for a taxi ride into Tijuana is about $5. I plan to take my daughter, so is that $5 a person or $5 for the group?
Thanks
