Whistler Buying Skis
Posted: Sat September 2, 2006 04:35 PM UTC
Hi. I'm off to Whistler in mid december for the 2006/2007 season, and so of course I'm going to need to buy some skis. Is it likely to cost more to buy skis in Whistler or in the UK? What are the cost differences likely to be? I'd be grateful for any useful advice on this.

Whistler Looking for a good B&B
Posted: Thu August 17, 2006 08:22 PM UTC
I'll be in Whistler the first week of January, 2007, and I'd like to stay in a B&B within walking distance of Whistler Village. I'm trying to save a few bucks by avoiding the costly hotels and motels. Plus, when staying in a B&B, I can meet travellers from all over the world. Thanks.

Whistler Avoiding Kids
Posted: Tue August 15, 2006 11:29 PM UTC
I am looking to do some snowboarding in Whistler this winter. However, I want to avoid having to deal with other people's kids. Can anyone recommend the best place to stay or best time to go to avoid crying kids and stressed out parents. Any tips would help. I really need child-free relaxation.

Whistler Worst time of year?
Posted: Fri August 11, 2006 05:44 PM UTC
My wife and I are celebrating our 30th anniversary by going to Whistler for the first time on the Whistler Mountaineer, primarily because she likes train rides. However, the dates are October 2-5; the gondola and lifts are closed. I'm wondering if...
a) many restaurants will also be closed in the village
b) activities will be nil
c) we'll be stuck in the Chateau Whistler forced to eat 100 dollar meals
Do you know what goes on there between summer and skiing? We don't ski, so we won't miss that; I just hope SOMETHING is going on there then...

Whistler Weather in mid October - what to pack
Posted: Wed July 26, 2006 01:52 AM UTC
I will be staying at the Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside from 16 - 18 October. May I know what kind of weather I can expect in Whistler at this time of the year? What are the temperatures and humidity like and will there be any snow? What clothing items should I pack?

What will be the best outdoor activity to do at this time of the year? I am not into adventure sports like skiing or kayaking so are there any other mild to moderate activities that I can indulge in?

Whistler new start in whistler
Posted: Fri July 14, 2006 04:08 PM UTC
Hello, hope this isnt too longwinded...I am thinking about moving to Whistler, at least trying it out starting from Winter 06, is it very easy to find a job and place to live. A bit scared about making such a huge move (from Barbados) so wondering whether it is easy to get there, work, live and have some fun in the process?!?
Would love something fun and outdoorsy to do and to meet some new friends, any suggestions of hints for relocation would be great. Thanks so much

Whistler rv sites
Posted: Tue July 11, 2006 01:59 PM UTC
Hi Guy's n Gal's

I'll be travelling through Whistler in early October, just wondered if you can still park your RV overnight on the carparks off Blackcomb Way ( I did this about 4-5 years ago no problem ) or is the Riverside RV resort the best option ?

Cheers

Whistler Whistler Staff Housing
Posted: Sat June 3, 2006 06:14 AM UTC
Hi There, I am doing the whistler 06/07 winter season this year and wanting more information about the staff housing if you gain employment with Whistler-Blackcomb. Just wonder if anyone has stayed in the staff housing and can give me advice as to which location is the best, do each other units have a kitchen or is it a communal kitchen per building. Thanks for your time, any advice would be great. Angela angelasalvaterra@hotmail.com

Whistler Conditions beginning of June
Posted: Thu March 30, 2006 01:47 PM UTC
I need to be in Vancouver for work in the beginning of June and I was very happy to see this is only a few hours travel from whistler/blackcomb. Since I always wanted to go down those canadian pistes I plan to go a few days early (june 1st till 4th) and do a little snowboarding there. However, I am used to the austrian alps and I have no idea what to expect, I checked the sites and the winterseason seems to end on the 4th of june. But is the snow it still any good by that time? Is the soutside lodge in whistler a good place to stay (also logistically) and is it worth taking my own gear?

Thanks!!

Whistler whistler accomodation and skiing for beginners
Posted: Thu January 19, 2006 07:04 PM UTC
hi, i've decided to treat myself to a nice birthday present and go to whistler or some nice ski resort to pick up skiing and other activities. i will be staying on my own so the nicer the better i figure.

i would like to stay in a nice (four star and up) hotel, and was thinking about the pan pacific, but its prices are a bit steep. i am looking for something about 300 or below (usd) per night. are there any websites you would know of that have good fares?
also, i would like a hotel close to shopping/ entertainment and walking distance to the lifts.
i was considering aspen or banff as well. any thoughts?
thanks!

Hi

My boyfriend and I are going to Whistler in February to snowboard and we are looking for some cheap accommodation. It has proved very difficult to find one so far as the prices are much higher than we expected...we are looking for anything below 250 canadian dollars ie 125 british pounds per night.

many thanks in advance for your help

Whistler Haven't Skied in Years...
Posted: Thu January 5, 2006 12:11 AM UTC
Should I be nervous about skiing Whistler? I'm hoping it's like riding a bike, but I'm starting to worry after reading some of the other posts about how advanced Whistler is.

Also, any tips on where the very cute/fun men hang out? I suppose I should mention that I'm 30 so I'm probably looking to avoid the very young hangout places.

Whistler Conditions as of today/another tip...
Posted: Sat December 31, 2005 01:34 AM UTC
In Whistler we found a great little map guide book called Visitor's Choice Whistler. It's free & is about the size of a Reader's Digest...really informative with all sorts of local info - where to go & what to do stuff. Plus it contains the trail maps for both Whistler & Blackcomb mountains too...very handy!

Was up today...5 inches of new AND it had snowed down to the Valley...another 3-5 inches on the way tonight. FINALLY it's getting c-o-l-d-e-r!!!

Whistler Lift Pass Discounts, and Altitude Sickness (!)
Posted: Thu October 27, 2005 05:50 PM UTC
Does anyone have any tips on getting discount lift passes? I am leading a group of 11 people from the UK, and staying for 11 nights in March 2006, which should give us 10 days of skiing. We've found www.alluradirect.com and wonder if their prices are the best.
Also, someone has mentioned that we may get altitude sickness. Seems unlikely to me, having skied in the big Euro resorts and felt nothing. Maybe it has to do with doing a long haul flight the day before. Can anyone confirm/refute this?
Any other resort tips also appreciated :-)
Many thanks.

Whistler Questions about lessons and renting gear at Whistler/BC
Posted: Tue October 4, 2005 06:59 AM UTC
Hi Im heading to Whister to learn to snowboard in late February 2006. I have booked accommodation (shoestring lodge) which comes with a 6 day lift pass. I cant wait for the trip is going to be awesome. In the meantime I have a few questions:

- is it best to pre-book lessons online before i get there? having never snowboarded before in my life (I have been skiing a few times though) would one full day lesson be enough to learn most things? to me the 3 day lessons seem like too much

- is it advisable to pre-book snowboard rentals or is it easier to sort it out when i get there? can anyone recommend a snowboard rental place? My accommodation is in a dorm type share place so ideally id like to rent from a place that can store the board overnight between days on the slopes (id rather not take it back to the place im staying cause theres a chance it could get stolen)

Thanks for any advice :)

Whistler When is there the best snow at Whistler/Blackcomb? Or when is it not raining?
Posted: Sun September 11, 2005 05:51 PM UTC
I have always wanted to visit and ski Whistle/Blackcomb. Although I understand it's a great ski area, I understand that there can be many times when it's raining at the lower lifts, and snowing at the top. Is there any month or period in which you're not going to get rain at the lower elevations? Or, is there always a chance for rain no matter when you go? I've been wanting to ski here for many years, and maybe this year I'll try to finally visit, but I am hoping there might be a time in the ski season when it is least likely to rain at the lower elevations, if even such a period exist. Thank for your help.

Whistler Skiing, Snowboarding, Working and having a good time in Whistler
Posted: Mon August 22, 2005 02:40 PM UTC
Hi my name is Dave and I from the Netherlands. I am 26 years, I love skiing and snowbording. I finished my University degree in Marketing & Management. I worked for about a year in a big bank & insurrance company. After that I have travelled around Azia, Australie and New Zealand for 9 months. Which was great, know I want to explore more of the world.

During my travels I have learned a lot of great people specially Canadians and they said if you are into skiing and snowboarding you realy have to visit Whistler or Banff.

My main goal is to find work during the ski season, from October till Februari (so around 5 or 6 months). I am an average till good skier, and I was hoping to find a job where acommodation and the ski-lift-pass are included. So if you know some organisations who provide this, that would be more than welcome. I like to party, but skiing, snowbaording and work are my main goals.

I read some posts about other places to consider - silverstar in vernon, bc, big white in kelowna, b.c., red mountain in trail, b.c., fernie or kimberley in b.c., banff, jasper or lake louise in alberta. But I kind have already set my mind on Whistler. Because I heared it is the place to be.

I also like to have some information/details according to; earnings, living costs and if it is easy to find a job with my degree. Would I be able to get casual work (bar etc) or serieus work (bank & inssurrance business) on a tourist visa? I also read something about a liftty? And Is it hard to become a ski-instructer?

My e-mail is: daveschiedon@hotmail.com , any information is welcome so do not hessitate to write me or reply on my message.

I probably made some spelling errors because writing in english is a bit rusti

Thanks in advance,

Whistler camping in Whistler or Squamish....
Posted: Sun August 21, 2005 11:39 PM UTC
Hi!
My friends and I are planning a camping trip either around Whistler or Squamish area. Anyone have any suggestions? We DON"T want to go to a provincial park like Alice lake, because we are a group of mid-20's people and we may have a few beers and make a little noise...and we don't want to annoy other people...

I have never camped up in that area, so I dont really know which lakes are decent. Any sugestions would be soo great.

Thanks

Whistler Where is best to stay in Whistler?!! Help!!
Posted: Sat August 20, 2005 04:06 PM UTC
Hey,

Heading off to Whistler in Novemvber this winter with one of my friends and we are looking for some accommodation for the whole 6 month season at the moment. Does any one who has been there before have any tips on the best place to stay in Whistler? We were looking for accommodation as close to Whistler Village as possible, places like Brio and Cay have come up... don't know how good these are in terms of other young people, cost and general village/lift access. Also we have looked at sites like nativescom and seasonaires.com, are these a good option? they require paying upfront etc.
Hope you can help!

thanks a lot
