| Banff | Canadian rockies in May, am I too soon? Posted: Sun March 4, 2007 05:25 PM UTC
I have booked a week touring in Banff, Jasper, lake Louise in May but on looking everything up it seems quite a few things are not open until June. Can anyone reassure me that I've not made a mistake. We are thengoing on Rocky Mountaineer and then Alaska Cruise for a week. A real trip of a lifetime (at least thats how long it will take to clear the credit card bill)
Any tips, places not to miss, very welcome |

How long will it take to drive from Whistler to Banff, we are travelling there in June. Our travel rep told us that is was about 6/7 hours but from reading other mails it seems to be more like 10/12 hrs.
Would just like to clarify what the driving time is? |

Who listed thus restaurant as 'Official' Top 5 Small Restaurants in Canada? some agency, or some magazine, or who? Thanks much, I want to mention it in a story for a magazine, but can't find the 'official' groupd that gave this status. Typically you need to do that!

I would like to make a circle trip from Vancouver to Banff and then go south and make a circle back to Vancouver. I'm wondering if my best bet would be to do this by train, bus, or automobile. Any suggestions?
Also any other hints for making that type of trip? Thank you, Jim |

| Banff | Christmas in Banff? Posted: Thu June 8, 2006 01:24 AM UTC
My sister and her hubby would like to spend a week in Banff at Christmas. Would really like some advice about nice places to stay for Xmas, and if there are any special things happening over the holiday season.
They like the outdoors, so I know they would love a hotel/motel/lodge with lots of wood, fireplaces, etc. Appreciate any suggestions including lodging, places to eat, activities, etc. This is their Christmas celebration together, so I'm researching to find out more info before they book. Thank you, Carol. |

| Banff | Skiing at Banff Norquay Posted: Mon June 5, 2006 08:47 AM UTC
Hello
Planning on skiing for a couple of days when we stay in Banff at the beginning on Jan next year. I'm a complete beginner, although I might have a couple of lessons at Lake Louise before coming to Banff. Looking at the Banff Norquay website - prices for 2hr ski lessons seem VERY reasonable - cheaper than buying a lift pass & rentals! Do you definitely get to continue skiing after your lesson or do you have to come off the slopes & pay extra for this? Same with the Lake Louise ski school? Thanks in advance Sam x |

| Banff | Finding a job as a massage therapist, season pass perk and house Posted: Sun April 30, 2006 08:00 AM UTC
Wow, I've been blown away by the helpful advice on this website...so thought I'd ask some questions of my own.
I will arrive in Banff in November this year and want to find a position as a massage therapist, preferably at Fairmount (either Banff of LL) as it looks amazing. Though to be honest, I'm not fussy about where I end up working...as long as I get some days off for snowboarding. Does anyone know of a place you can work as a massage therapist, which will include a season pass? I'm tossing up between (A) working in my profession as a massage therapist and having to pay for a season pass and (B)working as a "liftie" and earning less, but getting a season pass (Which I presume they get when they work at one of ski resorts. I heard that there's a "job day" in Baff somewhere in October where you can go along and get interviewed for various jobs? Does anyone have any more info on this? Would also appreciate some info re: renting a house in LL/Banff. There are 4 of us kiwi's in our mid-late 20's who would like to rent a house together. Is it easy enough to find a house for the season? When do you have to be in Banff to ensure you get a good choice of accomodation? Sorry to the bunch of questions...any help would be appreciated :) |

| Banff | Travelling to Banf/jasper areas during May end or early June Posted: Fri April 28, 2006 06:44 PM UTC
I saw a similar question about visiting these places during September. We were planning on visiting May end or early June. We plan to do a little bit of hiking and other less strenuoss activities as we will be travelling with a 2.5 year old. I dont want to end up wearing layer of clothes, just want to enjoy the beauty of the place without being bothered about the chill.
Appreciate your responses |

| Banff | Private home accommodations Posted: Tue April 25, 2006 06:52 PM UTC
Private home accommodations are available in the town of Jasper. Their ads appear quite attractive to us. Is this type of accommodation offered in any other town in or near Banff NP? Perhaps I don't know how to locate them.

| Banff | How about September? Posted: Sat April 22, 2006 07:41 PM UTC
Have been trying to select the "best" time of year to visit Banff and Jasper. We are an older couple, so not interested in hiking, skiing and other strenuous activ. Will be driving, and will be in the area at least a week. The date is flex but leaning toward 1st week in Sep. Can anyone agree? Can throw this plan away and start over if there is a better time. We appreciate any input.
Thank you, Bob & Lin |

| Banff | Transfers Jasper- Lake Louise, then Lake Louise - Banff - are these good? Posted: Thu March 16, 2006 05:34 AM UTC
I've been looking at transfers for our holiday in Dec/Jan as we don't really want to drive with it being winter & not knowing the roads. This is my first trip to Canada, so I'm not sure what prices are 'reasonable' for transfers!
Calgary - Jasper: I've been quoted £62 per person for our transfer from Calgary - Jasper (private transfer with Sundog tours) - which considering it's 5 1/2hrs driving time...I think is reasonable. The same company does a service between Jasper - Banff. It says "Travel between Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper or reverse can be split between as many days as possible at no additional charge." - So, we could get 2 transfers for $59 each! I've e-mailed them just to check this (prices are from Dec 05 - April 05, so may go up, but I'm just hoping then run the same service) - seems too good to be true! Jasper - Lake Louise - Leave at 8am, arriving at 11am. Lake Louise - Banff. Leave at 11.30am, arrive at 12.15pm. Banff - Calgary - Not looked yet as Dave couldn't remember our flight time...but will ask the same company as they seem fantastic so far! The website is http://www.discoverbanff.com/Transpo...portTransfers/ if you're interested! What do you think? |
