Car Rental Posted: Tue October 6, 2009 11:52 PM UTC
Hey everyone,
I have a quite intricate problem: I need to reenter the country for a working permit to become effective.
The plan was to rent a car and drive for a few days to Montana and then back into Canada. When I tried to rent the car today, however, I found out that most rental companys require the renter to have a drivers license and a credit card. I have a driver license, but I don't have a credit card. My girlfriend (who is coming along) has a credit card, but no drivers license. It seems to be not possible to rent a car with this setup, I have tried Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Budget and some smaller ones. Does anyone know a car rental where one can have different names for driver and credit card holder?
If this is not possible, I was looking at ways to get to Montana without a car. Greyhound only seems to offer routes to Hotsprings going over Vancouver and Seattle, which of course does not make any sense. Are there other coach companys that offer rides directly from Calgary to Montana? Do you have any other idea how I could do this?
Regards
Ole

First time skiing holiday Posted: Mon October 5, 2009 08:44 PM UTC
Hi, I am looking for a new and exciting holiday for myself and my family. We have tried dry slope skiing near our home town in Scotland and thought it would be a great holiday in Canada to try the real thing.
I would be extremly grateful if anyone could give me information on places to stay and go skiing that would make our holiday more exciting and enjoyable.

milwaukee to calgary train Posted: Sat May 23, 2009 06:28 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me how I can conveniently get from Milwaukee to Calgary on a train? My wife told me that someone from Amtrak told her it would take 3 days with changes of trains and buses. It seems to me that there must be an easier and shorter way. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Skydive - Calgary, Vancouver, Okanagan Valley Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 09:56 PM UTC
Hi,
I am travelling to Vancouver and Calgary via Kelowna in September and I am hoping to do a skydive (for the first time). Does anyone know of a cheap (and reliable of course :-)) Skydiving Association? In either the Vancouver, Okanagan Valley or Calgary areas? I'm aware that the weather may not be guaranteed in September.
Thanks

Great family friendly hotel in Calgary? Posted: Tue March 24, 2009 05:19 AM UTC
Hi everyone,
We are planning a holiday to the Calgary area (esp to see Calgary Zoo) in either late May or June. I'm looking for suggestions for family friendly hotels that offer pools and (hopefully) waterslides?
As well, we have one 4 yr old - is there anything else that would be of interest to her to see in Calgary? We're going to stop in Drumheller on the way... and make a day trip to Banff...
Thanks in advance for all replies.

One free Day in Calgary Posted: Mon March 2, 2009 01:41 AM UTC
Hi:
(1) I have one free day in Calgary next week - a Saturday - what are the big icons of Calgary that you would recommend I "must see" in this one day to get a taste of the city? My interests are varied so anything legal goes.
(1) Do you have any recommendations for tour companies that offer day tours of Calgary?
Thanks

Can you tell me what do (males) wear when it gets as cold as it is now in Calgary - head to foot - inside and out - the gory details. Thanks

Flight Ideas Posted: Tue February 24, 2009 05:53 AM UTC
I'm trying to organize a trip with a group of about 10 from Florida to Calgary to see the Stampede. We have a few different flight options but most seem to center around flying direct or some sort of stop in either Toronto or Minneapolis or Detroit. There doesn't seem to be many low price options which is what I'm looking for. We don't mind driving a limited amount so if anyone had any suggestions about flying to Edmonton instead of Calgary and then driving in or flying to somewhere in the northern U.S. near the border and driving up, that would work too. I've tried to look for cheap no-frills (non-executive) charters too. We're just hitting a lot of dead ends. Anyone got ideas???

I am desperatly missing my sister,brother-in-law,and niece and would love to visit them at christmas. Here is my dilema...I have four children so if we fly it will cost us at least $4000.(2 adults,3 kids and an infant) so I was thinking of driving. Can anyone tell me how long it would take?(honestly) and approx.how much it would cost? I know that it is a long, boring drive but I think we could make it fun.Have any of you made the drive? would you share your stories with me?any info would be great.

wireless cafes and also other info Posted: Tue July 15, 2008 02:44 AM UTC
Hi VT'rs - especially Calgarians - love your town and stampede,
Would really appreciate some cool suggestions for wireless cafes that are not all student oriented..... also, after having my friend's kids crawl all over me in the last few days (they're awesome) - I'm in need of a great massage - any suggestions for places in/near downtown with great RMT's?
Thanks and any other suggestions of 'must do's welcome :-)

Public transportation cross border Posted: Fri April 4, 2008 02:58 AM UTC
Am I to assume from reading one of the other entries that there is not any public transportation connecting Amtrak service in northern Montana with destinations in Alberta, Canada? I had high hopes of taking the train from Maine to Montana and then connecting by bus or wagontrain??? to Canada...

Lunches Near the University Posted: Fri October 5, 2007 10:42 PM UTC
Can anyone suggest locations for lunch *near* the university? We usually use public transport to go out for lunch after class on Friday, and we're running out of ideas. Restaurants MUST have vegetarian options and should be accessible by either C-Train (from University station) or one of the following busses: 9, 72, 73, 20, 19, 119 in less than thirty minutes. We prefer locally owned restaurants rather than chains.

CALGARY AND BANFF - THINGS TO DO IN ONE DAY Posted: Tue September 4, 2007 01:58 PM UTC
My wife and I are on tour in October and our tour company is leaving us two elderly travellers to our own devices for one day at these two places. Please tell us how best to enjoy our very brief stay taking into account that my wife can't walk very far. Our interests are good food, wine, theatre, shopping if there are plenty of resting places. Are there any day bus trips worth doing ?
Thanks folks
