| Halifax | Gay couple go to Halifax Posted: Mon July 17, 2006 01:44 AM UTC
My married friends Bob and Charles will be in Halifax August 10-13. They are Vancouverites so ocean is no big deal but they would like to see the sights . They are not sure whether they should rent a car- they like unique hotels that aren't afraid to have a 45 ish gay couple under there roof. They will not be searching out the gay scene in a big way but if there is any places that are gay friendly they would be happy to go. They have asked me as I was born in Halifax but don't remember much from when I left at age 5!
They like good food. They are not budget travellers but like a fair price.Neither wants to get beat up for being in the wrong place at the wrong time |

| Halifax | Students of Saint Marys University in Halifax Posted: Tue February 21, 2006 07:49 PM UTC
Hi!
It would be cool to find any students here from Saint Marys University. I plan to apply to this University this year and have no idea about the student life there. Do you like to study in Halifax? I have heard it is hard to study in Canada. Is it true? What is your opinion? Best regards KZ |

| Halifax | I hope to go to Halifax around July 20th, 2005! Posted: Wed June 22, 2005 03:05 AM UTC
Hi! I am going to Bar Harbor, Maine to meet w/some friends and then hope to go to explore Novia Scotia and maybe PEI as well afterwards. I'd love to hear from you all about what I can see and do there. I'm also single and will probably try to go to as many places as I can. I'll be driving by car and look forward to seeing this beautiful place!
Is the cat ferry worth the trip, does it save that much time VS driving? Any advice, ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Brad in Vermont |

| Halifax | Halifax nightlife and sightseeing Posted: Sat March 19, 2005 09:37 AM UTC
Me and a friend will be in Halifax 28th-30th March at the start of a 3 week train journey to Vancouver, using VIA rails excellent value CanRail Pass. Got accommodation sorted, planning on walking around to see the city, especially the Citadel and Maritime museum, but has anyone got any tips for good nightlife or any other must see tourist attractions. Also, where's the best seafood restaurant - a must for Halifax!

| Halifax | The Spitfire Arms Alehouse? Posted: Mon February 14, 2005 10:56 PM UTC
A friend of mine returned from the Annapolis Valley on Business. He was going on about an English style pub in Windsor, NS called The Spitfire Arms. Has anyone heard about it? Apparently there are over 12 draught and the food is really good. He mentioned that there was also a motorcycle in a display case featuring WW2 RCAF artefacts. We're thinking of driving up this weekend to try them out. Has anyone else been there?

| Halifax | Whale watching in NS Posted: Mon October 18, 2004 07:22 PM UTC
My Wife and I are coming to NS in Aug 2005 for our 20th wedding anniversary. We are staying in Halifax for a total of 5 nights but also touring for 9 nights. Chris really wants to go whale watching. Is it worth going to the Digby area just for this or is it just as good on the Cabot trail?
Can anyone suggest some good hiking trails with some good scenery for comparative novices. Thanks Richard ( U.K. ) |

| Halifax | Not enough time in Halifax Posted: Thu September 23, 2004 04:04 PM UTC
Hello - My friend and I will be on a cruise that stops in Halifax next week and we have a lot of things we want to do in and I am not sure we will have the time for it.
Our plan right now is to take a cab directly from the cruise terminal to the Titanic gravesites, spend no more than an hour there, and then take a cab back to the Museum of the Atlantic and see the Titanic exhibit, but we need to be back by 1:30 (we dock at 9:30am, so I assume we will be off the ship by 10:30) for an unrelated ship sponsored excursion. Do you think we can make it? On the map I have, it doenst look like it would be anymore than a 15 minute cab ride from the dock to the gravesites, is that about right? If thats too much to do (which I am thinking that it is), which is more "not miss": the museum or the gravesites? I have heard many people be dissapointed by the lack of artifacts that are actually in the museum and the size of the exhibit, and they say that the graveyard experience is actually more enjoyable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Carey |

| Halifax | cheap, dog friendly Posted: Tue August 31, 2004 03:40 AM UTC
My girlfriend and I will be in Halifax October 8-19.
Seeking recommendation (offers too) for cheap or cheapish accommodation. Under 700 cdn if possible. Catch being, we have a small, well behaved dog (GF is a trainer). Also, if possible, we would like access to a kitchen to prepare at least one meal daily. Other than that, We aren't too picky... warm and dry. A sublet or basement flat would be ideal. Hotels that accept pets AND have suites are too costly -I just can't accept paying 150 per night. Cabins we have found online are within cost range but too far from the city, where we plan to spend most of our time. Thanks. |

| Halifax | Is there anything to see on Salter Street? Posted: Wed August 25, 2004 08:40 PM UTC
Hello, I'll be in Halifax around September 17th. I think I'm staying somwhere called the Prince George Hotel.
I'm a huge fan of the sci-fi show "Lexx" and also a fan of "This Hour Has 22 Minutes". Is there anything left to see on Salter Street now that they were bought by Alliance? I'd love to visit a store or shop or pub something that had some Lexx memorabilia stuff. Is Salter near the downtown? Otherwise I'll just be making a trip to get my photo taken under the street sign. | Halifax | What bothers Haligonians about their province/government? Posted: Thu August 12, 2004 07:52 PM UTC
Hi everyone - I hope this question doesn't offend anyone (and I admit, it's an odd one). My husband and I just came back from a brief trip to Halifax and Yarmouth and, as we often do, found ourselves a bit envious of the Canadian way of life (more awareness of the environment, of the world outside of their own country, socialized health care, more laid-back approach to life). (If you are from Nova Scotia, thank you for the warm welcome into your home! I was struck by how friendly people are.)
Of course, the grass is always greener, and I started wondering what gripes Canadians commonly have about their government, either nationally or within the province. We'd thought that if we got into a discussion with some locals, we might be able to find out, but that didn't happen. If there are any VTers from Halifax who could answer my question, that'd be great. I know how Canadians often feel about Americans and American government, but I don't really know how they feel about their own. Any thoughts? |

I plan on staying in Halifax in the beginning of August. I've been deciding between the Delta Halifax, Holiday Inn Harborview or Holiday Inn Select Halifax Centre. Are they in safe areas? I read some of the comments in the warning area of this site but I'm not sure if these hotels are in those areas. Also, any comments about any of these hotels? Thanks!

| Halifax | Exploring & Staying in Halifax/ Cape Breton (or on the way) Posted: Fri July 2, 2004 04:33 AM UTC
Hello everyone!
My parents and another couple will be going to Halifax near the end of July, beginning August. Would anyone have suggestions about: 1) Great Hotels near the waterfront(minimum 3 star...preferably 4 star) (Casino hotel, Westin..???) what is recommended. 2) Great Bed and Breakfast places near the waterfront (Waverly Inn?) 3) Places to eat ..that have a lot of ambiance..and good food.. 4) Activities to see.. Was told one should take a look at the Waterford crystal makers..Where does that take place? 5) Finally, they hope to rent a car and drive up to Cape Breton..Can anyone recommend a good route ..and what they might wish to see? They are hoping to drive for no more than 3 hours at a time..Where might they stop..on their way? I realize the list is awfully long, but any help would be much appreciated.. Tried to read through the reviews..but they are a bit overwhelming.. THANKS! Cheers! |

Hey everyone - I will be in Halifax as part of a cruise and only have about 6 hours to explore. I am definetly going to the Martime Museum, and would also like to see the Titanic Graveyards, but cant seem to find an exact location for them or how to get there from the Museum.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I can walk from the Cruise Terminal to the Museum, but then how would anyone suggest I get to the graveyards? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks, Carey |
