Halifax Halifax Restaurants
Posted: Tue July 8, 2008 02:32 AM UTC
We are staying at the Marriott Harborfront in Halifax next week and would love a couple of ideas for places that are within walking distance for lunch and dinner. We really prefer casual dining and don't need anything fancy. Does anyone have any ideas? I think this Marriott used to go by another name (something with Casino in it)? We are joining a tour after that and will get lots of help with the official sightseeing but if there's any dining, shopping or just a local "must see" that we shouldn't miss in that area, we have some time on our own and would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance.

Halifax Halifax to Vancouver Route Help
Posted: Sat May 3, 2008 11:19 AM UTC
Hello,

I'm looking for help with routes from Halifax, NS to Vancouver, BC. I'm going to be moving from Halifax to Vancouver in August and we will be driving a U-Haul pulling our car behind it. We're planning on making it from Halifax to Montreal the first day of travel and then from there we need help with routes. We would like to take the fastest routes possible and stay in Canada the whole way. Anyone who's made a similar trip, your advice would be great appreciated. We need advice on routes and also hotels/motels along the way. We prefer not to stay in hotels right in big cities as we have a U-Haul full of our valuables and would like to reduce the risk of it being broke into while we're sleeping for the nights. So any advice on hotels in quiet, small towns along the way would be great too. We're planning on driving about 12 hours a day, give or take an hour. Anyone that can help, please do.

Halifax Can I walk the streets of Halifax safely??
Posted: Wed February 6, 2008 08:16 AM UTC
My husband, and I were thinking about moving to Halifax.

We don't have a car and are happy with that choice for now.
We use the bus system and walk or bike most places.

Recently I have seen posts on the internet about the violence, and muggings against people walking around Halifax at night or even during the day ...

Is this really true?
It is very important for me and my husband to walk freely at night to the bus and home or to school or work in the morning.

PLEASE can anyone BE HONEST.

Is it safe for pedestrians in Halifax? Morning noon and night?

thanks for you help

Halifax Where to stay in Halifax, NS for a few days in June, 2008?
Posted: Tue September 25, 2007 06:05 AM UTC
Greetings:
I have a friend who will be flying into Halifax, NS on June 22, 2008 and he will be leaving for the Middle East on June 28, 2008. Can anyone suggest a reasonable place (i.e., if possible, under $100 CAD a night) for him to stay during this period of time? He will be alone and he is on a tight budget (e.g., he is paying for this stay himself) so the cheaper the better. Frankly, what he really need is just a big bed for a few days before he embarks on a long flight.
That’s it for now. Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Halifax Finding a place to stay in Halifax, NS from 25 August 2008 to 25 September 2008?
Posted: Sun September 16, 2007 06:32 AM UTC
Greetings:
My wife and I are arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia in June, 2008 and we are staying in a university residence until August 25, 2008. On that date, we must vacate the residence due to returning students. Unfortunately, we have to stay in Halifax until 25 September 2008. Therefore, we must find a place to stay in Halifax, NS from 25 August 2008 to 25 September 2008.
Firstly, what we are looking for is a cheap place (i.e., under $1000 a month). Secondly, our needs are very basic. A room (in a B&B, an Inn, a motel, whatever is no problem) with kitchen facilities with a large bed would be very nice indeed. We have no children and are non-smokers, non-drinkers, non-party-ers and just plain quiet people. Thirdly, in Halifax or near Halifax wouldn’t be a problem because we will have a rent-a-car with unlimited mileage so we are very flexible in terms of our accommodation’s location. I think that this the tourist off-season so perhaps this presents opportunities for us. Finally, we will be Halifax early so if a place is suggested to us, perhaps we can negotiate the rate before we move in.
That’s it for now. Any advice or suggestions you can give us is greatly appreciated.

Halifax Travel safety
Posted: Sun August 26, 2007 01:04 PM UTC
I am an Indian girl joining a University in Halifax for my master's program. Most of the international flights reaching Halifax arrive at night/late evening. I am not sure if it will be safe for me to travel alone by a cab from the airport to the University(30 min drive) at that hour. Are all cabs registered with the police? Kindly Advise.
Thank You.

Halifax Questions ?
Posted: Thu July 19, 2007 05:42 PM UTC
I try asking in my other thread but i guess it's kinda died out now. I'm moving to Nova Scotia in less than two weeks now, and I was just wondering if someone can tell me where I need to go to get my driver's license switched over to Nova Scotia, and also recomend a good place to go for auto insurance ? as i understand that car insurance is privatized out there.

Halifax Parking in Halifax
Posted: Mon June 4, 2007 03:27 AM UTC
I'm going to be in Halifax in a couple of weeks for a day, and have tickets for Alexander Keith's Brewery and also the Atlantic Museum. They are both on Lower Water Street (think that's the right street name). Is there a good place to park to be able to walk to them both, and what type of price? Or, do I drive from one to the other - do they both have parking lots? And do they charge? I'm trying to cut costs as much as possible.
How about the best cheap lunch in that same area? Is there some incredible place where a cheap meal is possible, preferably seafood/fish & chips? I'm sure there'll be a Tim Hortons somewhere, but I'd rather have something I can't find back in Toronto.

Halifax Moving to Halifax
Posted: Fri May 4, 2007 01:55 PM UTC
Me and my gf are living in Chilliwack, near Vancouver, B.C. We have been seriously considering making the move to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The prices for houses has become just ridiculous here in this area and we are wanting to make the move to seek out our first home purchase. We have been searching the mls and have realized we can get a lot better bang for our buck in Halifax then here. So we are pretty much decided that we will be making the move. My question is (for those of you that live in Halifax), is Halifax an enjoyable place to live. I have been doing my research trying to find peoples opinions of the area, and the good and bad parts of it. From what I have learnt so far it looks like there is a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy such as biking along the ocean, hiking, surfing in the summer etc., but what is the quality of life there. Is it a good place to live and raise a family ? Is there lots to do recreationally speaking ? Basically I just want to know about Halifax as a whole and what people think about it as a place to live and eventually start a family. Anyone that lives there or has lived there please help me make my decision to move more concrete.

Halifax From Halifax: Nova Scotia or Québec&Montréal?
Posted: Tue March 13, 2007 08:38 AM UTC
Hi all,

I'm travelling to Halifax June 2007 for business, but I'll stay there afterwards for 4-5 days. My first idea was to move to Québec and Montréal by train/bus, but after checking the prices and hours travelling I'm thinking of staying in Nova Scotia and rent a car.

Considering that one of my first wishes is doing a whale-watching tour, what would you suggest?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,
I am driving to toronto on or around 30th of August. I am looking for some one to make the trip entertaining. I am 29, and male, and don't have any bad records. Not even parking tickets :) Well, anyways, also, I am looking for a good route if I have to go alone, so I can stop in between, and see some places. Any suggestions where to stop, what to see, where to eat....

Halifax Nova Scotia on a budget
Posted: Mon August 7, 2006 05:55 PM UTC
Hi all,

I'm flying into Halifax on the 25th of August (or perhaps the 28th). I have one week of travelling to do before I meet family back in Halifax for the 1st of September, where I will spend the long weekend with them. Since I will have an opportunity to see Halifax on the long weekend, I want to explore other areas of Nova Scotia (natural beauties!) first. Can anyone suggest places to travel outside Halifax that I can access inexpensively, and by bus? I keep hearing wonderful things about the Cabot Trail, but I suppose that is accessible only by car...Ive also heard things of peggies cove. Please share all!

Thank you!

Halifax Gay couple go to Halifax
Posted: Mon July 17, 2006 01:44 AM UTC
My married friends Bob and Charles will be in Halifax August 10-13. They are Vancouverites so ocean is no big deal but they would like to see the sights . They are not sure whether they should rent a car- they like unique hotels that aren't afraid to have a 45 ish gay couple under there roof. They will not be searching out the gay scene in a big way but if there is any places that are gay friendly they would be happy to go. They have asked me as I was born in Halifax but don't remember much from when I left at age 5!
They like good food. They are not budget travellers but like a fair price.Neither wants to get beat up for being in the wrong place at the wrong time
