Montreal Montreal in February?
Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 12:24 PM UTC
Mr travelmad478 and I have had Montreal "on the list" for a long time. We've decided to do a long weekend trip (4-5 days or so) this February, and the idea of a train trip to Montreal came up. Are we nuts to contemplate a tourist visit to the city when it's so cold/dark? Are there lots of "inside" things to do, or good winter-y outside things to do without a car?

This would probably be around Feb 13-17. I understand that there are some winter festivals in Montreal--are there any festivals going on during that period that would be good to visit? Is it difficult to get a hotel at such times?

Montreal Lunch near Metro Mont Royal
Posted: Thu November 20, 2008 06:05 PM UTC
Hello

I am meeting my friend and we want to dine somewhere near the metro station. I guess we can walk to St. Denis, but what are some favorite lunch spots on ave du mont royal (other than la binerie, which is great by the way)?

Thanks

Hello !
I'm looking for a restaurant to take my girlfriend out for my birthday !
Do you know any romantic restaurant downtown where we could eat and drink for $50 ?
I'm looking for someplace convivial, animated but still romantic (like with a candle) !
I'll turn 20. And I want to have fun too.
If you have any suggestion or idea of other things to do, let me know ! :)
Thank you !

Montreal Plane ticket from Montreal to Chicago
Posted: Wed October 15, 2008 12:54 AM UTC
Hello !
I'm actually studying in Montreal and
I'd like to plan a week end trip from Montreal to Chicago (from nov 7th evening to nov 12th) but I'm not able to find a cheap plane's ticket to go there. My budget is $200 for the ticket. I don't know the "low cost" companies in Canada/USA so ... what I find is too expensive. I heard that it could be cheaper to take a ride to Burlington, VT and then take a domestic flight but what I found is not a lot cheaper.

If anybody could helps me to find a cheap ticket, I would be glad.
Thank you !

Montreal Montreal: Preferred area to stay and when to go
Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 02:14 PM UTC
Hello,
I searched questions and didnt see this one asked. First question is what is best part of city to stay in if you are visiting for a couple of days without a car( which is most scenic)? Also, generally although no one can predict weather, but is mid november generally a good time to visit? and if i decided to rent a car for a day, where do you recommend to drive to that is maybe one to two hour drive each way and worth seeing( generally, not for tourist sites, but just worth having a look around)

Thanks everyone for your help.

Montreal Restaurant suggestions
Posted: Wed October 1, 2008 08:16 PM UTC
Hello,

I would like to get some suggestions on a restaurant please. We are planning a bachelorette evening for my sister. We will be starting at the Casino, then later on we'd like to go to a comedy club (any suggestions: Comedy works or Comedy nest?). In between we'd like to go to dinner. We'll have 6-8 people and are looking for Italian, Greek, French, or Japanese cuisine - or just a place with a fun/lively atmosphere. Our preferred pricing is under $25 per entree. Preferably a place that's near the comedy club as we would just like to park once and leave the car. We've been to Weinstein & Giovanni's before and are looking for a similar place.

Thank you!

Hello to everyone,

I am from South America, will be moving to Montreal in October, and my N°1 sport is soccer, so I was wondering if this sport is known there.

Does anybody knows if there is place to practice it?.

Thanks a lot.

Montreal Jazz music
Posted: Wed September 10, 2008 08:26 PM UTC
Hello everyone

Can you recommend some quaint bars to listen to live jazz bands? The last time I was in Montreal I stumbled into a quaint bar on St. Laurent where Yannick Rieu trio was playing a set. The music was excellent and it made a wonderful impression on me. Many thanks

J

Oh, can you also recommend a good restaurant for french cuisine (le canard specifically) that isn't too expensive? I like Au Pied du Cochon but would also like to try someplace else.

Montreal Montreal hotel labour dispute question
Posted: Tue September 9, 2008 02:11 PM UTC
Hi,

I am trying to find out if there are any hotels in the downtown area of Montreal near the VIA rail station that aren't impacted by the current labour problems. I am trying to organize accommodation for a person who is pretty much wheelchair bound and needs some special attention with mobility.

Your help would be really appreciated.

Montreal tipping
Posted: Sat August 9, 2008 05:19 AM UTC
so i went to a few lower-end restaurants (i.e. Poutine)where you pay at the cash register and in the bill, they add another %5 tip. Take seems kind of low to me, so i usually even more at the table to get it to at least %15. Is this the norm or do most people leave nothing?

Montreal NHL Ice Hockey tickets
Posted: Tue July 22, 2008 04:45 PM UTC
Hi,
I'm planning on revisiting Canada in Mid December and want to take in an Ice Hockey game if I can.
I've asked on the Toronto forum how feasable it would be to get my hands on any ticket for any maple leafs game and the answer was basically zero.

So I've searched online for other teams to see and it looks like Montreal has a better NHL team than Toronto so i'd like to see them play instead.
My question is therefore is it possible to buy a ticket online for a Montreal canadiens game or are my chances 0%?

I will be in Montreal Aug 5 - Aug9. I read that there is a fireworks competition. What is the best spot to see it for free?

Thanks,

Montreal Some Questions about travel between Montreal and Ottawa
Posted: Fri July 18, 2008 05:34 PM UTC
Hello Friends,

I am travelling to Montreal, staying there for a day, and then want to proceed ahead to Ottawa, see the city for a day and catch a flight to Calgary from there.

Can someone tell me the following :-

1. If I am travelling throug VIA Rail from Montreal to Ottawa, what is the distance from VIA Rail Stop to Ottawa Airport.

2. I understand that there is a free shuttle between VIA Rail and Airport. Can anyone hop on to it or you need to have travelled by the Train to avail this service.

3. Are there any hotels near Ottawa Rail Stop where on can stay for a day and still be in the centre of the town.

Cheers

Montreal Toy Shops ( for train sets)
Posted: Wed July 2, 2008 09:08 PM UTC
Born in Cote'St Paul Montreal son of a war bride, after my father died in 1953
forced to return to England. Managed a return trip in April this year (2008)Went
to my fathers grave ,visited house I was born in ,saw a Canadiens/Toronto hockey
match .Visited many places and felt "at home". but I went to many shopping malls and streets and could not find anywhere that is a model shop or toy shop that sold train sets , and I was looking particularly for an "O" gauge layout.
Can you advise me if there maybe or is a shop that perhaps I can buy at on line ??
