staying in montreal, onre night. Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 12:55 AM UTC
Hi I'm from Colombia and spending a month in Toronto. I, with some friends would like to go to Montreal, visit the Cirque Du Soleil (big time fans), and stay a night in the city. However we are expected to spend little money in that trip, so I would like to know if you could tell me where to find a cheap place to stay near "Under the Grand Chapiteau, Quays of the Old Port of Montreal".
As a side point, I have everything planned on maps, however my friends doesn't believe me when i say that trains from Toronto can get to the central station in Montréal, am I wrong?

Montreal For a Few Days Posted: Fri June 5, 2009 04:45 PM UTC
Thinking of travelling from NYC area to Montreal for husband's 50th over summer. Will be me, 13 year old daughter, and hubby. Without spending a lot of money what is the best way to get there and best place to stay? Flying seems to be very pricey and the train reviews are awful. Anyone ever take a bus? Any recommendations would be great thanks!

we are going to new england for about 10 days and have decided to spend 2 evenings in montreal. we enjoy wandering old neighborhoods and eating in inexpensive restaurants that cater to locals. we tend to avoid the tourist experiences and look more for a "living there flavor".

2-3 days tour in Montreal and Quebec City? Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 08:27 AM UTC
Hi all,
My partner and I are going to visit my family in Toronto in September.
I've been to Canada several times and it's his first time, so we wanted to visit Montreal and Quebec city, too.
Are there any guided tours to Quebec, about 3 nights, departuring from Toronto?
Can you recommend something?
We want to visit Montreal and Quebec City, so anything that covers both cities would be okay.
Thanks you all in advance! :-)

Montreal Hotel recommendation for first time visitors???? Posted: Sun May 17, 2009 11:41 PM UTC
My wife and I will be going to Montreal later this year and I was wondering if I might get some recommendations as to where we might consider staying?
Price wouldn't be too much an issue so what area and what hotel might be a good solid choice for us to consider? We would like to have an area that would be provide a good point to have access to do all the touristy kinds of things, etc.
Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated and I thank you in advance for anyone who responds.

Hotels near bike paths Posted: Thu May 14, 2009 04:13 PM UTC
Hi - I will be visiting Montreal with a friend for a few days in July and would like to stay in a moderately-priced but nice hotel adjacent to a good bike path. Can anyone recommend a neighborhood or a specific hotel where it would be good for a first-time visitor to stay? We are just casual bike-riders so we want to go on flat bike paths. Thank you!

Candlewood Suites Posted: Tue April 21, 2009 06:49 PM UTC
We will be visiting Montreal in August and staying at the Candlewood Suite Montreal Downtown Hotel. The hotel informs me that the nearest metro is Saint Laurent and perhaps Champs de Mar. However, on looking up directions on Google, it says to be careful as it the path is lacking pedestrian walkways etc. How far is the closest metro in terms of walking minutes? Thanks.

Taxi from Cote-St-Luc to Dorval Airport Posted: Sun April 19, 2009 09:39 AM UTC
How much would you estimate a taxi would cost from the Cavendish Mall area of Cote-St-Luc to Dorval Airport? I imagine it would involve going around through Van Horne/Fleet and the Decarie circle, as there seems to be no direct route over the train tracks. Thanks.

Montreal--good for shopping? Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 12:44 PM UTC
Hi,
We are planning a trip to Montreal, and we are concerned about the size of old town. Will there be enough to do over a 3 or 4 day trip? We went to Quebec City last year and we were shocked at how small the old city was. We were bored after 2 days! I realize that Montreal is a large city but we are not into partying and don't care about the bar's, etc. We are more interested in shops and cafes. Any advice? Will it be just like Quebec City? Should we pick somewhere else???

Accomodation in Montreal Posted: Wed March 25, 2009 02:10 PM UTC
Hello All!
I would go with my lover in Montreal this summer to visit Canada also where I've never been. I will spend a month there.
Does anyone know a place where I could stay for less than a hotel and have some privacy?
Thank you in advance for your answers!

Going to Montreal from Europe ( airlines / accomodation / etc) Posted: Fri February 27, 2009 08:00 AM UTC
Does anyone know an airline in Europe that goes to Montreal for an okay price?
The only ones I have found so far are extremly expensive.
Can anyone recommend a clean budget hotel? Or warn me from one that they found completely useless?
I would also like to go to NYC for a few days. What is the cheapest way to get there from Montreal? Bus? Train?
Cheers!

Montreal during Winter - Late March Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 06:37 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
My boyfriend booked us a trip to Montreal for the weekend in late March. I was wondering if there are any specific late March/Winter things to do in the city. Some of what I've read is really geared towards summertime (ex: Botanical Gardens) so any great sites to see even in winter and indoors would be greatly appreciated. It is our first time to Montreal and I'm semi-fluent in French my boyfriend is at beginner level.
Thanks friends!

RE: Visit to Montreal & Ottawa Posted: Thu January 8, 2009 03:17 AM UTC
I will be visiting Montreal & Ottawa in July (1st week). I will be flying to Montreal airport and flying out of Ottawa.
Hence I need transportation - going from Montreal to Ottawa (I suppose driving i am not sure)
My question --
Should I rent a car for the whole week? I checked on Orbitz and car will cost me 600USD for a week?
Or should I just use CAB (Montreal airport - Montreal Downtown)
and then Rent 1 time car (1 day) to travel (Montreal - Ottawa)
and then use a CAB (Ottawa Downtown - Ottawa Airport)
reason why I am asking this is I was wondering If I want to see both cities do I need a car? or their is ample public transportation? I was thinking of saving few buck by not renting a car for the whole week. I read few post that Parking is not free in either cities and I will be spending roughly 10 USD a day for parking.
Please guide..
Thanks

Montreal Day Tours Posted: Sun December 7, 2008 12:44 AM UTC
I will be visiting Montreal in late Feb 2009 for a work meeting, followed by 1-2 days of sightseeing before flying back home.
In view of the limited time for sightseeing, are there any good day tours in Montreal which I can join? Hope to get some information from VT members.

Montreal in February? Posted: Wed November 26, 2008 11:24 AM UTC
Mr travelmad478 and I have had Montreal "on the list" for a long time. We've decided to do a long weekend trip (4-5 days or so) this February, and the idea of a train trip to Montreal came up. Are we nuts to contemplate a tourist visit to the city when it's so cold/dark? Are there lots of "inside" things to do, or good winter-y outside things to do without a car?
This would probably be around Feb 13-17. I understand that there are some winter festivals in Montreal--are there any festivals going on during that period that would be good to visit? Is it difficult to get a hotel at such times?

I am meeting my friend and we want to dine somewhere near the metro station. I guess we can walk to St. Denis, but what are some favorite lunch spots on ave du mont royal (other than la binerie, which is great by the way)?
Thanks

I'm looking for a restaurant to take my girlfriend out for my birthday ! Posted: Wed October 15, 2008 12:05 AM UTC
Hello !
I'm looking for a restaurant to take my girlfriend out for my birthday !
Do you know any romantic restaurant downtown where we could eat and drink for $50 ?
I'm looking for someplace convivial, animated but still romantic (like with a candle) !
I'll turn 20. And I want to have fun too.
If you have any suggestion or idea of other things to do, let me know ! :)
Thank you !

Plane ticket from Montreal to Chicago Posted: Tue October 14, 2008 11:54 PM UTC
Hello !
I'm actually studying in Montreal and
I'd like to plan a week end trip from Montreal to Chicago (from nov 7th evening to nov 12th) but I'm not able to find a cheap plane's ticket to go there. My budget is $200 for the ticket. I don't know the "low cost" companies in Canada/USA so ... what I find is too expensive. I heard that it could be cheaper to take a ride to Burlington, VT and then take a domestic flight but what I found is not a lot cheaper.
If anybody could helps me to find a cheap ticket, I would be glad.
Thank you !

Montreal: Preferred area to stay and when to go Posted: Sat October 11, 2008 01:14 PM UTC
Hello,
I searched questions and didnt see this one asked. First question is what is best part of city to stay in if you are visiting for a couple of days without a car( which is most scenic)? Also, generally although no one can predict weather, but is mid november generally a good time to visit? and if i decided to rent a car for a day, where do you recommend to drive to that is maybe one to two hour drive each way and worth seeing( generally, not for tourist sites, but just worth having a look around)
Thanks everyone for your help.

Restaurant suggestions Posted: Wed October 1, 2008 07:16 PM UTC
Hello,
I would like to get some suggestions on a restaurant please. We are planning a bachelorette evening for my sister. We will be starting at the Casino, then later on we'd like to go to a comedy club (any suggestions: Comedy works or Comedy nest?). In between we'd like to go to dinner. We'll have 6-8 people and are looking for Italian, Greek, French, or Japanese cuisine - or just a place with a fun/lively atmosphere. Our preferred pricing is under $25 per entree. Preferably a place that's near the comedy club as we would just like to park once and leave the car. We've been to Weinstein & Giovanni's before and are looking for a similar place.
Thank you!
