Lachine Canal. Posted: Tue October 27, 2009 05:13 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm currently in Montreal and I was told that there is a bike path by the Lachine Canal. I'm looking for a scenic route with lots of trees (in order to see the change of colors...). Is there a way to get the the Lachine Canal by public transportation? Where should I start from? Are there other areas that you would suggest?
Thanks so much!

3-day stay in Montreal Posted: Fri September 25, 2009 12:02 AM UTC
Hello,
I'll be going to Montreal for three days in October. I have a few questions if you please:
- What is the best and least expensive way of traveling from Toronto to Montreal (I live in London, by the way, which is close to Toronto)? I checked the air fare and I was considering taking the train, what do you think?
- Any suggestions for hotels near the University Street in Montreal?
- Any suggestions for day care near the same region? I'll be traveling with my 6-year-old.
Thank you in advance

Karaoke near a nice hotel; nice neighbourhood Posted: Wed September 2, 2009 10:10 PM UTC
I'm looking for a decent hotel (3 star minimum - around $100-$120 per night hopefully) that has a good karaoke bar within walking distance (a few blocks would be nice).
I'll be looking to do karaoke Monday and Tuesday nights, and I'd like the hotel / karaoke bar to be in a pretty safe neighbourhood. Also, not sure if you know of this level of detail, but I'll be looking to sing hard rock / metal songs so the karaoke needs to have a pretty decent song list.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Montreal Hotels Posted: Fri August 21, 2009 02:44 AM UTC
I will be going to Montreal in early Sept with my husband and a 1 year old baby. We intent to stay at Hotel Louisbourg located at 1649 Saint Hubert Street, H2X 3Z1 Montreal. I have a few questions:
1. Is Saint Hubert a safe place to stay?
2. I will need to park our car in the nearby carpark. May I know which and where is a safe parking area that I can park our car? (preferrably not too far from the hotel as we have luggages, a baby and his things to carry).
Thank you in adavance

In Montreal Posted: Tue August 18, 2009 07:04 PM UTC
Has anyone residing here bought (in Montreal) a type of card that one charges up and then uses when travelling abroad like a debit card?
Is there a special Visa card I don`ty know about?
I`d like to travel with a card in which I have placed a few thousand US dol already, this way there will be no bank fees. Like travellers cheques except it`s a card.
Thank you

Seeking best locations and timing for fall colors Posted: Fri July 31, 2009 12:11 AM UTC
We are planning a vacation trip to Quebec Province this fall and are interesting in viewing and photographing the colorful fall foliage while we are there. We plan to fly into Montreal, visit the Montreal area, and then drive to Quebec City for a further visit there.
What would be the best locations for photographing fall colors in the Montreal and Quebec City areas and what would be the optimum time to arrive to catch the call colors at their peak?

staying in montreal, onre night. Posted: Sun June 7, 2009 01:55 AM UTC
Hi I'm from Colombia and spending a month in Toronto. I, with some friends would like to go to Montreal, visit the Cirque Du Soleil (big time fans), and stay a night in the city. However we are expected to spend little money in that trip, so I would like to know if you could tell me where to find a cheap place to stay near "Under the Grand Chapiteau, Quays of the Old Port of Montreal".
As a side point, I have everything planned on maps, however my friends doesn't believe me when i say that trains from Toronto can get to the central station in Montréal, am I wrong?

Montreal For a Few Days Posted: Fri June 5, 2009 05:45 PM UTC
Thinking of travelling from NYC area to Montreal for husband's 50th over summer. Will be me, 13 year old daughter, and hubby. Without spending a lot of money what is the best way to get there and best place to stay? Flying seems to be very pricey and the train reviews are awful. Anyone ever take a bus? Any recommendations would be great thanks!

2-3 days tour in Montreal and Quebec City? Posted: Tue May 26, 2009 09:27 AM UTC
Hi all,
My partner and I are going to visit my family in Toronto in September.
I've been to Canada several times and it's his first time, so we wanted to visit Montreal and Quebec city, too.
Are there any guided tours to Quebec, about 3 nights, departuring from Toronto?
Can you recommend something?
We want to visit Montreal and Quebec City, so anything that covers both cities would be okay.
Thanks you all in advance! :-)

Montreal Hotel recommendation for first time visitors???? Posted: Mon May 18, 2009 12:41 AM UTC
My wife and I will be going to Montreal later this year and I was wondering if I might get some recommendations as to where we might consider staying?
Price wouldn't be too much an issue so what area and what hotel might be a good solid choice for us to consider? We would like to have an area that would be provide a good point to have access to do all the touristy kinds of things, etc.
Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated and I thank you in advance for anyone who responds.

Hotels near bike paths Posted: Thu May 14, 2009 05:13 PM UTC
Hi - I will be visiting Montreal with a friend for a few days in July and would like to stay in a moderately-priced but nice hotel adjacent to a good bike path. Can anyone recommend a neighborhood or a specific hotel where it would be good for a first-time visitor to stay? We are just casual bike-riders so we want to go on flat bike paths. Thank you!

Candlewood Suites Posted: Tue April 21, 2009 07:49 PM UTC
We will be visiting Montreal in August and staying at the Candlewood Suite Montreal Downtown Hotel. The hotel informs me that the nearest metro is Saint Laurent and perhaps Champs de Mar. However, on looking up directions on Google, it says to be careful as it the path is lacking pedestrian walkways etc. How far is the closest metro in terms of walking minutes? Thanks.

Taxi from Cote-St-Luc to Dorval Airport Posted: Sun April 19, 2009 10:39 AM UTC
How much would you estimate a taxi would cost from the Cavendish Mall area of Cote-St-Luc to Dorval Airport? I imagine it would involve going around through Van Horne/Fleet and the Decarie circle, as there seems to be no direct route over the train tracks. Thanks.

Montreal--good for shopping? Posted: Tue April 14, 2009 01:44 PM UTC
Hi,
We are planning a trip to Montreal, and we are concerned about the size of old town. Will there be enough to do over a 3 or 4 day trip? We went to Quebec City last year and we were shocked at how small the old city was. We were bored after 2 days! I realize that Montreal is a large city but we are not into partying and don't care about the bar's, etc. We are more interested in shops and cafes. Any advice? Will it be just like Quebec City? Should we pick somewhere else???

Going to Montreal from Europe ( airlines / accomodation / etc) Posted: Fri February 27, 2009 09:00 AM UTC
Does anyone know an airline in Europe that goes to Montreal for an okay price?
The only ones I have found so far are extremly expensive.
Can anyone recommend a clean budget hotel? Or warn me from one that they found completely useless?
I would also like to go to NYC for a few days. What is the cheapest way to get there from Montreal? Bus? Train?
Cheers!

Montreal during Winter - Late March Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 07:37 PM UTC
Hi everyone,
My boyfriend booked us a trip to Montreal for the weekend in late March. I was wondering if there are any specific late March/Winter things to do in the city. Some of what I've read is really geared towards summertime (ex: Botanical Gardens) so any great sites to see even in winter and indoors would be greatly appreciated. It is our first time to Montreal and I'm semi-fluent in French my boyfriend is at beginner level.
Thanks friends!

RE: Visit to Montreal & Ottawa Posted: Thu January 8, 2009 04:17 AM UTC
I will be visiting Montreal & Ottawa in July (1st week). I will be flying to Montreal airport and flying out of Ottawa.
Hence I need transportation - going from Montreal to Ottawa (I suppose driving i am not sure)
My question --
Should I rent a car for the whole week? I checked on Orbitz and car will cost me 600USD for a week?
Or should I just use CAB (Montreal airport - Montreal Downtown)
and then Rent 1 time car (1 day) to travel (Montreal - Ottawa)
and then use a CAB (Ottawa Downtown - Ottawa Airport)
reason why I am asking this is I was wondering If I want to see both cities do I need a car? or their is ample public transportation? I was thinking of saving few buck by not renting a car for the whole week. I read few post that Parking is not free in either cities and I will be spending roughly 10 USD a day for parking.
Please guide..
Thanks

Montreal Day Tours Posted: Sun December 7, 2008 01:44 AM UTC
I will be visiting Montreal in late Feb 2009 for a work meeting, followed by 1-2 days of sightseeing before flying back home.
In view of the limited time for sightseeing, are there any good day tours in Montreal which I can join? Hope to get some information from VT members.
