| Montreal | Free guide/activity partner in Montreal (ENG-FRE-SPA) Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 09:26 PM UTC
Hey all from Montreal. I'm a 30-something who's just come back home this weekend from a 2-week trip to Argentina and Uruguay and I will still be on vacation during the following week. During my trip, I was hoping to get together with some locals to know more about their culture and "live like a local," get off the beaten track, perhaps even enjoy a family meal (a Sunday asado/parillada for instance) and practice my Spanish and/or help out with English and French, but unfortunately things didn't turn out that way and I finally returned to Montreal earlier than expected. So I figured perhaps some tourists to my own city might appreciate a similar "get to know the locals" experience. I'll be available every day 'til Sunday May 11th if you want to hang out. Here are a few activities we could do: nature hike on a mountain in the Montreal suburb of St-Hilaire (mountaintop offers a great view of Montreal), go swimming at a municipal water park at the northeastern tip of Montreal island, walk on Mount Royal, visit the ethnic neighborhoods (Chinese, Italian, Arabic, Jewish, etc.) or whatever active non-consumerist activity you might be interested in. You can contact me at vivianepb_@hotmail.com. Later.

| Montreal | Montreal Patisseries - names of the ones not to be missed Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 02:42 AM UTC
Bonjour toute le monde =).
-------------------------------------------------- Anyone have names and addresses for wonderful patisseries in Montreal that are not to be missed? -------------------------------------------------- Have limited time in Montreal so want to maximize my time there and visit some much adored pastry shops that the locals love and hopefully like the pastry shops in France. If you know of any that are to 'die-for' please let me know. Merci Beaucoup. |

| Montreal | Where to shop for beautiful clothes at wonderful prices Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 02:38 AM UTC
I have heard that Montreal is a great place for the average person to find wonderful clothing at bargain prices. Not talking about the high end designer stores like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci etc, BUT beautiful clothes for your average middle class income person. Nothing tacky and no souvenirs. Just pure classy, sophisticated, well-made clothing.
-------------------------------------------------- Where do the local folks shop for great clothes. -------------------------------------------------- Are there any streets, markets, areas that one should visit if they want to to leave Montreal looking French chic? Heard that I just missed the famous Grande Braderie de Mode Quebecoise so now where do I go to find great well-made clothing at wonderful discounted prices. Is there a designer row/street that is open to the public? Thanks. |

hi everyone,
i may be going to Montreal for a last minute trip this weekend and am trying to remember the bed and breakfast i randomly found last time i was there. it was near bar Bily Kun in Le Plateau and had a yellow color scheme. ...well if you can't remember, do you think you can send some recommendations for hostels or budget B&Bs and hotels? there will be 3 of us and we're hoping not to exceed 40 CAD per night. thanks! |

| Montreal | Things to do Posted: Thu April 10, 2008 03:26 AM UTC
I'm a freshman in college, and a few friends and I are planning to go take a trip to Montreal after the semester is over. Are there things to do in Montreal during the day? We've found a lot of museums, churches, and things like that, but I don't know that that's what we're really looking for. I guess the question is: Is there anything that could entertain a few college students during the day? We aren't really as worried about nights.
Thanks! |

we currently have reservations for "hotel auberge universel" for our vacation located sherbrooke street east opposite the olympic stadium. does anyone have any knowledge of this hotel? it was recommended to us by my sister-in-law who does live in montreal. however, recently my husband read some reviews of this place that are making us nervous about our reservations. last year we had a horrible hotel experience while staying in boston and we don't want another one! thanks to anyone who can provide any insight!

| Montreal | Reliable weather forecast for Montreal Posted: Sun March 16, 2008 04:50 PM UTC
I'm coming to Montreal the week of March 24th. I'm trying to get a good idea of what the weather will be like so I can pack appropriately. Two websites-MSN Weather and WeatherChannel.com-seem to be off by about 10-14 degrees from each other. Is the weather in Montreal that unpredictable? Is there a reliable weather website that I can use? It would save me a lot of packing trouble if I could get the right weather info.
Thanks |

I will be travelling through Montreal. I am staying by the Dorval Airport. What can I do in an evening? I am on a slight budget, but I have been told that Rue Ste. Catherines has nice shopping. I would prefer public transit or will take a taxi if not too pricey. Any tips??

Me and some friends are flying through Montreal at the beginning of May. We're a group of about 17 people and we'll be arriving at 7 pm and departing again at 6:45 am. And well, we want something to do besides sleeping in the airport! We're a bunch of University students, so we're pretty much up for anything. Any ideas?

| Montreal | Daytrip to The Laurentians Posted: Wed January 9, 2008 06:02 PM UTC
Hello,
We're a Spanish couple that is going to be in Montreal from the 25 to the 29 of May and one of the things that we want to do is going one day to The Laurentians. I was checking and there's a lot of places to visit, the problem is that we have not so much time, so we have to choose and we have no idea about what can be the best places to visit. So any advise about this matter will be very helpful for us. It will be also great to have some information about how to arrive there, it's better to rent a car? Or we can go by train or by bus? Thanks a lot! |

| Montreal | French Language School Posted: Wed December 19, 2007 04:18 PM UTC
hi there
i want to plan a study trip to quebec to study french for 4 weeks. i'd prefer to study at a school outside montreal but with easy access to the city (considering that the suburbs are cheaper). if there's a nice school in montreal itself, can anyone recommend me with good schools, affordable accommodation and best way to get around? places to visit? i've done some search and found that the average cost in montreal is CAD$2000 for 4 weeks inc. of study and accommodation. any suggestion? thanks, a:^) |

| Montreal | Stuff that ACTUAL Montrealers Do In Their Free Time Posted: Thu October 18, 2007 03:54 PM UTC
My husband and I are going to Montreal for the week between Christmas and New Year's. We've been several times and enjoy the city very much, but this time he's decided he wants to do "non-touristy" things. So what do you Montrealers do in your free time? I know this is a purely subjective question but any thing off the beaten path would be great. Je parle francais...c'est pas bien, parce-que je n'ai jamais l'opportunite de pratiquer. We're staying at the new Embassy Suites on rue Sainte-Antoine Ouest because we have free Hilton points to burn. We plan to do some shopping and visit Mont-Royal, but we've been to many of the museums, Olympic Stadium et al, Old Montreal, etc. Thanks!
