Hi,

My friend and I are going to be in Tallin and wanted to go to St. Petersburg. Does anyone know the best way to get to St. Petersburg from Tallin? Flying seems quite expensive. Thanks!

Moscow Taxi from Domodedovo
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 07:58 PM UTC
Hi,

I will be arriving at Domodedovo airport at 2am so I will have to get a taxi to the city centre. Is there a good taxi company operating from the airport? How much should I expect to pay?

It has occured to me that I could just wait in the airport until buses and trains start running! Would it be comfortable?

Russia Which destination do you recommend?
Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 11:54 AM UTC
Hello, there! A friend and I are planning a short trip to Russia in July. I would like to hear from you which city you think we should go see: Sankt Petersburg, Moscow or Kaliningrad? If we choose St. Petersburg, will we be able to take a train to Moscow or vice versa? We are playing with only 5-6 days to include travel time.

Thanks.

My friend and I are looking for accommodation at the end of July, and we're rather surprised by how high the prices are for even budget rooms. Twice the price of what we're paying in Tokyo! Can anyone recommend homestays or how to find them?

Thanks!

Russia TransSiberian Railway – September 2008 - anyone?
Posted: Mon April 21, 2008 02:19 AM UTC
Early September this year I plan 2-3 weeks escapade in Russia all the way down to Lake Baikal on a TransSiberian Railway.
Just wonder now, if there’s anyone having similar plans, willing to join me along the route…?
Roughly saying the itinerary goes as follows: Moscow (3-4 days) – Yekaterinburg (2 days) – Krasnoyarsk (2 days) – Irkutsk – Olkhon Island (2-3 days) – Listvyanka – Ulan Ude (2 days).
(Severobaikalsk, north side of the lake remains an alternative, depending on the weather, time schedule & local transport). I’m a relaxed, easy going guy in my late 20’s, ready to compromise on details when necessary & rather experienced with Asian backpacking… also speak some decent basic Russian which’s always helpful, I guess.
For more details regarding the budget, etc plz contact me at damian30a@hotmail.com
Cheers,
Damian, UK (28)

We'd rather stay maybe 2 or 3 stops on the metro away from the City Centre. Can anyone recommend any hotels?

Russia Travelling from Sheremetyevo to Moscow City Centre
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 01:18 PM UTC
Hi,

Were travelling to Moscow in May (Champions League Final). We dont get into Sheremetyevo Airport until 12:00 midnight. Is it far to get a taxi to the centre of Moscow, how many miles? How much would a taxi cost? I've heard we need to barter with them, but would like an idea whats the most we should pay.

Thanks

Saint Petersburg SAFETY
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 10:17 AM UTC
Hi

We're wrinklies and are thinking of doing a Page & Moy organized trip to St. Petes - we've heard horror stories on TV about hotel guests getting knocked up by the housekeeper & security bringing back their laundry demanding money - friends have done cruises and have been begged by tourists to join their ship as they've felt unsafe in hotels and people getting mugged - case of when not if.

Quite frankly we just don't know what to believe and how much has been hyped up. Can anyone please give us an accurate up-date - St. Pete's is one option - as is China & India - may be there just as unsafe.

All replies greatfully received.

Russia Online ticket for Hermitage
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 04:17 PM UTC
I am going to buy a ticket online for the Hermitage in St Petersburg. I am in two minds which one to get though.

It is $17.95 for a ticket that allows you to visit the main museum which includes 5 interconnected buildings.

Or for $25.95 I can get one that also allows me to visit, the displays in the General Staff building, the Menshikov Palace, the Winter Palace of Peter the Great, and the displays of the Porcelain museum.

What do people think of these extra places. Are they worth the extra $8? Are they well worth visiting? Or should I be spending my precious, limited amount of time, doing something else?
