| Vancouver | Vancouver: one day only Posted: Tue May 6, 2008 07:34 PM UTC
We are planning on spending the night in Vancouver on our way home from our road trip through the Canadian Rockies in early June. We'll be driving from Kamploops, so I figure we will arrive in Vancouver around 2 in the afternoon. We will leave for Seattle the next morning/early afternoon. I'm wondering what we could do to get a quick taste of the city while we are there. I've thought about one of the suspension bridges, Stanley Park, and Gastown for dinner and shopping (not sure how much I can cram into one afternoon and one morning). What sites would you visit with this short amount of time? Any suggestions on inexpensive (under $100) places to stay in a good location?

| Vancouver | 8 days in Vancouver Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 04:19 PM UTC
After getting the replies from my question before, I have done some research, and this is what I have so far.
We are planning a trip to Vancouver from 5/18 to 5/26, 8 days. It’s a unique combo, 2 ladies in their 50’s and 2 in their 30’s. After reading through all the messages from the board, this is what I came up with. I still need some help filling out the trip. Please take a look and see what else I can add to our trip. We’re flying Alaska Airline to Vancouver. We rented a car for the days that we are there. The first few days we are staying at a friend’s home, but we have to leave on the 23rd, so I decided we could stay a night in Victoria. 5/18 Fly to Vancouver. Get there around lunch time. Maybe lunch at Richmond, and walk around 5/19 Capilano Bridge, Salmon Hatchery, and Grouse mountain for a hike? 5/20 Day trip to Whistler 5/21 Stanley Park and ?? 5/22 ?? 5/23 Car Ferry to Victoria. Butchard Garden, Royal Museum of BC. Staying at Magnolia Hotel 5/24 Morning to Sooke? Victoria back to Vancouver. Staying at Best Western Richmond 5/25 Relax, eat at Richmond. Flight back home. Please give us some tips to fill out the 2 days. We’re not sure what to do since we are not familiar with Canada. I have some questions: Which ferry should I take to Victoria? I assume we are staying near Richmond, and downtown Vancouver. What’s the best way to spend our 2 days in Victoria? I would like to add a whale watching trip. What is the latest time we can take the ferry back to Vancouver? My friend wants to go to a museum in Vancouver that is in the middle of a bridge? It’s supposed to be really nice. Is that the Museum of Anthropology that I have been reading about? Thank you!! |

| Vancouver | Vancouver to Toronto? Posted: Tue April 29, 2008 04:40 AM UTC
I am in planning a trip to Vancouver in the end of May. We will be there for 9 days. We are just starting to plan our trip, going around Vancouver and Vicortia islands. We are tossing around the idea of going to Toronto too. Someone said that we can take a boat to Toronto (3 hour by boat), is that the best wat? Is there another way?
Thanks! |

We are arriving on a cruise ship into Vancouver on Friday, May 16, 2008 and want to go to Gibsons for a few hours. Is there a ferry that has a regular schedule into Gibsons from Vancouver? If so, which ferry is it and where do we go to board that ferry?

| Vancouver | Itinerary Suggestions including Vancouver, Calgary, Washington, Oregon. Posted: Sat April 19, 2008 07:50 AM UTC
My finace and I are still in the early stages of planning a trip to the USA for January. We had hoped to include Wyoming and other surrounding states but we are not used to driving in snow, etc (Queensland, Australia doesn't give us snow very often at all!!!) we have decided against plan A. So, I was wondering if anyone could suggest any itineraries maybe including Vancouver, Calgary, Western Washington and Western Oregon? They need not be self drive IF there is some sort of bus/train/etc that will allow us to see some of the rural areas/tourist attractions. We ideally would like to fly into Vancouver and out of LAX (I need my Disney fix before returning home.)
Or can anyone suggest any other states that would be more suitable in January. We are keen to stick more to the West side as costs and time adds up once we head east. Are internal flights a cheap option? Thanks in advance for your ideas. |

| Vancouver | Move to Vancouver Posted: Thu April 17, 2008 04:40 PM UTC
Hi, I just came back from a lovely trip to Vancouver and for the first time in all my travels, I felt I could live there comfortably. Now it got me thinking, how can I move to Vancouver?
Has anyone ever lived and worked in Vancouver for a couple of years? I don't want to necessarily immigrate there, just have a three year long vacation but be able to work there to maintain a living. I've researched some sites but found it a bit overwhelming. Where should I begin the process? Should I try to find a job first and apply for work permit? Can I just arrive there and begin the process? Any advice, thoughts, comments, would be helpful. Thanks! |

| Vancouver | Vancouver Library Posted: Sun April 13, 2008 11:09 AM UTC
I would like to know the best way to reach the junction of Georgia and Cambie St. in Vancouver, from the PCL via bus/train station. I am going to park at the Library on Homer St. but am not sure how to reach there. Which way do I turn on leaving the station and do I travel along Dunsmuir to Cambie? Is there a left turn from Dunsmuir to Cambie or is it a clover-leaf? When I reach Georgia St. I know my way. Any help from someone who is familiar with this route would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there,
I received an excellent recommendation over 6 months ago (lost now!)about a central, beautiful, reasonable $ b&b in vancouver... I think it's called 'victoria house' or reasonable facimile there of, but can't find it on this site or google - if this place sounds familiar to any of you, I'd very much appreciate a proper title or website connection, (any other suggestions for a place to stay btw april 19 & 21 would also be appreciated!) Thank you very much, M |

| Vancouver | Itinerary help with Vancouver Posted: Mon March 31, 2008 02:36 AM UTC
I am planning to visit Seattle and Vancouver in August. I have come up with the following possible places to visit in Vancouver. Please let me know which ones are worth visiting and how much time I will need to see each of them. If I omitted something, please also let me know.
1. Stanley Park 2. Vancouver Aquarium 3. HR MacMillan Space Centre 4. UBC Museum of Anthropology 5. Granville Island Market 6. Capillano Salmon Hatchery 7. Harbour Centre Tower 8. Vancouver Museum 9. Science World 10. Guided tours by land and water I was thinking of staying at either the Pacific Palisades Hotel or Le Soleil Hotel & Suites. What do you think of these hotels? Are there certain restaurants you can recommend that are nice and not very expensive? Thanks in advance for your help. David |

| Vancouver | Biggest competitor to World Nomads? Posted: Thu March 13, 2008 07:14 PM UTC
Biggest competitor to World Nomads?
My 1st question is who is the biggest competitor to World Nomads travel insurance? The reason justifies my 2nd question, or problem? World Nomads requires all customers currently traveling to hold Provincial heath insurance (from back home). In my case, Canada, and the province of British Columbia. I don't want to go back there, and my provincial health insurance is expired. I have no insurance of any kind. Do I have to contact BC insurance and tell them I need insurance again just to apply for World Nomad's international travel insurance, or can I find an equivalent to World Nomads that will allow me to open a policy (while on the road, and via the net), without the need of provincial insurance from back home. I like World nOmads because they have an easy to use site, can make claims online, offer protection for the most important things (and then some), and because they offer renewable 6-month policies (good for me because I keep on traveling without the desire to return home). So who to sign travel insurance with? I need to do this fast as I don't like the idea of globetrotting without insurance. |

Sue & I will be arriving in Vancouver on Sep 14 at 6.50am. We have 3 nights in Vancouver before setting off on a 19 day fire & ice cruise on the Carnival Spirit.
Looking for some help to fill in our 3 days in Vancouver. After a long flight from Melbourne, Australia our possible itinerary could look like this. * Day 1 - not too heavy, maybe the Vancouver Trolley and take a tour of the city. * Day 2 - Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain * Day 3 - Vancouver Island - maybe a whale watch cruise. Checking out Victoria. Any other ideas are much appreciated....is there anything else on Vancouver Island that we maybe able to have a look at in a day? Thanks in advance Col & Sue |

| Vancouver | Taxi from bus station Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 06:45 AM UTC
Hi
I get into Vancouver at 10pm (I think... I'm on the Amtrak bus and have heard it's notorious for being late - is this right?) Is it easy to get a taxi from the station at this time of night or will I need to call for one? If so, which company/phone number? As a solo traveller I'm a little concerned about finding my way around late at night. Thanks! |

My wife & I will be visiting the Vancouver area for a few days before flying out to Thailand. Are there lockers at YVR that we can leave a bit of luggage to pick up on our return in 10 days? Also, does anyone have any info on the lounge area, as on our return we will have 4 hour wait for our flight to Toronto? Thanks for any info that you can help us with.

| Vancouver | Granville Market Query Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 03:04 PM UTC
When visiting Vancouver last fall we spent a wonderful day on Granville Island. While grazing through the Market we stopped at an Italian food vendor (right inside the door on the right) and purchased THE BEST OLIVES I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! They were an array of multi-colored olives in all sizes and hues (brick red, bright green, tiny jet black). I later saw them again served as an appetizer in a cafe in Gastown. Could someone help me identify the name of the olive mix and perhaps what company sells them. I would love to track down a supplier and see if I can find a vendor in the USA. Thanks for your suggestions.

| Vancouver | Where's a fun good place to for for a quick drink in Vancouver? Posted: Fri February 22, 2008 01:42 PM UTC
We will be overnighting in Vancouver area, near the airport, before heading to Whistler skiing the next day. Pending what time we get into Vancouver, we might be interested in going out to someplace fun for a drink, and maybe some food, but mostly to just sample some local brew. We'll have a car, so we can drive, but prefer not driving more than 20 min. from the airport hotel. Just looking for someplace fun, different, good beer. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi, I am travelling to SeaTac airport next weekend and need to make my way to Vancouver on the same day, I have looked on the internet and have seen the Quick Coach site, this looks like the best option.
Does anyone know if the tickets are sent to your home address or do you pick them up at the airport once you have bought them online? I am a little concerned as we leave next Saturday and so they would not reach us by post in time. Thank you :) |

| Vancouver | Vancouver Island Posted: Sat February 16, 2008 04:07 PM UTC
Hi. We are a family of three(12 yr old daughter) and are revisiting B.C having enjoyed a holiday in an R.V 4 yrs ago. Last time we went from Vancouver up to Jaspar, down to Lake Louise and back to Vancouver via Okanagan. We only spent a day across in Victoria and realise how much we missed! This time we are flying into Calgary in July and going back via Jaspar and Whistler to Vancouver. We have just over 2 weeks with the R.V and want to take it across to the Island. I would like some ideas as to how much time to spend on the Island to do it justice! I want to head for Torfino and The Pacific Rim Campground looks good?? I am watching the BC feriies website for the first opportunity to book as I know it gets very busy! Any comments /suggestions to help me are very welcome! Helen (Cheshire, England)
