Vancouver Skydiving - Vancouver, Calgary, Okanagan
Posted: Sun May 10, 2009 09:55 PM UTC
Hi,

I am travelling to Vancouver and Calgary via Kelowna in September and I am hoping to do a skydive (for the first time). Does anyone know of a cheap (and reliable of course :-)) Skydiving Associations? In either the Vancouver, Okanagan Valley or Calgary areas? I'm aware that the weather may not be guaranteed in September.

Thanks

Vancouver Rain gear for Alaska: Where to Buy?
Posted: Wed May 6, 2009 02:39 PM UTC
Heading to Alaska for 10 days, for the first time, next Aug, and probably the last; first we will have the coral princess cruise and, after that a land tour to Denali for 3 days.
We will have all kinds of the usual activities:
Hiking, water rafting, flightseeing and glacier landing … etc
We are a family of 4 including 2 teens; looking for a full rain gear including proper footwear; for all of us, putting in consideration that we WILL USE IT JUST for 10 days and never again; probably we will take rid of it before our flight back home.
So, we will really appreciate all suggestions for the following:
# 1 What kind of cloths should we have; we will intend to wear in layers, so, should we have water proof coat only!
# 2 We don’t know what is the “proper” footwear for Alaska ?
# 3 Where we could have all these items together; we will stay at The Pan Pacific hotel.
We are new in this issue; sound a little bit strange, but we came from a completely different climate, almost no rain and never saw a snow before!
Need Help and Advice.

Vancouver Travel May 1st - 9th
Posted: Wed April 22, 2009 04:13 PM UTC
My husband and I are traveling to Vancouver in the next two weeks. We would like to visit Victoria and Whistler. Does anyone have any reccomendations for transportation as I have just learned the train is not yet running? We only want to spend one night in each area so we save enough days for Vancouver. Is a rental car our best bet? Also, it is our 10yr anniversary... any tips on some great local restaraunts??

Thanks!

Vancouver Vancouver and around - 2 Clueless Scottish Visitors
Posted: Mon April 13, 2009 03:36 PM UTC
Hello Travellers. My husband and I are coming to Canada / USA for a wedding in July (we arrive in Vancouver on 28 June). The wedding is in Longview, WA on 11 July, so we have almost 2 weeks to explore. We have bought the Lonely Planet Pacific Northwest, but are having trouble deciding what is really worth seeing. Do you have any suggestions as to what we should definitely see in, around and between Vancouver and Longview. We will have a car, a medium budget and we'd like to fit in a couple of days at a nice Pacific beach. Many thanks in advance.

Vancouver Looking for a hotel or b&b north of Vancouver
Posted: Mon April 6, 2009 04:45 PM UTC
Hello! My husband and I are going to be in Vancouver for three days in the middle of May. We are going to explore Vancouver along with traveling up to Squamish and Whisler. This is our first time to Vancouver so I have no clue where is a good place to stay! Does anyone know of a good bed and breakfast to stay at or a good hotel? I think I want to stay out of the city center and stay more north of Vancouver. Thanks for all your help! :-)

Vancouver Bus from Vancouver B.C. Air Port to Ferry and Victoria
Posted: Fri March 20, 2009 05:04 AM UTC
I want to go to Victoria B.C.. I can fly there but I would like to cross over on the ferry for at least one leg of the trip. It will costs $300.00 more to rent a car on the main land (Vancouver) and leave it on the island (Victoria airport).

Does anyone have any information about how difficult it is in getting a bus from the Vancouver airport to Victoria B.C.. I know it will have to catch the ferry across. Does it only take you to the ferry and you ride as a passenger or does it take you all the way into downtown Victoria or to the airport for a rental car.

WE have one day in Vancouver after our cruise. What downtown hotel or hotel area would be the best location for using the trolley and seeing the sights? I know there is an area to avoid too.

Vancouver Vancouver attractions saver card
Posted: Thu March 5, 2009 07:05 PM UTC
Hello folks,

I will be taking my family to Vancouver in July for 10 days before heading East. Obviously lots to see and do however rather than pay for 4 at each and every attraction, is there a worthwhile 'saver card' I can purchase?

I am then driving across to Edmonton via Jasper. My daughter hates long journeys so want to restrict 1st day to 5-6 hours or so. Any recommendations on overnight accomodation, including Jasper for the 2nd day. Many thanks, Andy.

Vancouver BC Drivers Licenses for Tourists
Posted: Tue March 3, 2009 01:02 AM UTC
I will be visiting Vancouver for 5 months as a tourist, and would like to be able to drive my friends car while I am there.

I have a Belgian drivers license and was wondering if anybody knows whether ICBC will insure a visitor on a foreign license.

Alternatively, if not, is it possible for a visitor to receive a BC Drivers License?

The only ID I have is my passport, and in that passport will be the 6 month entry stamp that I will receive at immigration coming into the country. It is my understanding (according to the website) that ICBC does not accept Passports as Primary Identification in order to issue a new license.

Does this mean a visitor to Canada is unable to apply for a drivers license? Is this different in other provinces?

Vancouver At a loss...
Posted: Fri February 20, 2009 06:55 PM UTC
Hi,
I am meeting my 3 girlfriends at Vancouver. They are from Spore while I am flying to Vancouver from Fort St John. The problem is that the 3 of them are gonna be in Canada from April 10 to April 20 but they are traveling all over the place (Vancouver-Calgary-Vancouver-Seattle) that I can only afford to join them in Vancouver so i am only gonna be there w them for 3 days (April 10-April 12). I think it's quite a waste of my air ticket ($470 to fly to Vancouver from FSJ) so I was thinking of arriving in Vancouver, maybe 2 days earlier like on April 8 and do sightseeing on my own. During the 3 days that we are all together, we be going to Grouse Mountain, Granville, and do all the city sights (stanley pk, gas town. chinatown, The Lookout & etc). So the 2 days on my own, i am thinking of doing the following. Bear in mind that I’m pretty much a timid traveler, can't drive and my criteria for the 2 days itinery must be safe.

1. Take Whistler Shuttle Bus to Whistler. Bear in mind that I absolutely hate skiing & snowboarding so not going to do these at all). I was thinking of just spending a day there @ Whistler Village, do some sightseeing & any activities (e.g, dog sledding) that doesn’t require skills on my end.
2. Take a Quick Shuttle's Bus to Seattle on early morning (estimated arrival time 9am) and take the shuttle back late in the evening (estimated departing time at 8pm from seattle). During the 10 hrs in Seattle, just visit the premium outlet, the pikes fish mkt & some other day sightseeing

Would welcome any ideas or opinions on my plan….or do u guys think that it might even be just cheaper for me to join my 3 friends for their itinery to begin with. And their plan is fixed, cannot be changed & is as follows:

April 10-April 12: Vancouver sightseeing
April 13: Drive to Okanagan & do vineyards
April 14: Drive to Banff and do sightseeing & stop at Calgary
April 15: Fly from Calgary to Vancouver
April 16-April 20: Vancouver & Seattle Sightseeing

Thanks guys..

Vancouver Trying to organize properly our next trip to BC and AB
Posted: Fri February 13, 2009 02:42 PM UTC
Hello, Does any of you know whether when renting a car in Calgary airport and dropping it in Vancouver airport, i'am charged a drop off fee ? I have read positive and negative answers from various sites, also depending on the way (YCF/YCC or the other way around).

Also, is renting in Canada (for the same type of car)cheaper than renting in Seattle (USA), for the same period of course ?

Thanks

Vancouver 4 Girls traveling to Vancouver..need help
Posted: Mon February 9, 2009 04:03 AM UTC
hi all,
hope u guys can help give some advice.

we r 4 girls travelling to Vancouver this april. Initially, we were thinking of staying at a backpackers place (20 bucks per nite) @ Downtown East...but a lot of people has been telling me that it's not advisable...

i need some advice from people who really know Vancouver....Cos our accomodation budget per nite for all 4 girls cannot exceed more than 160-180 bucks. So what i need to know:

1) what is the recommended area that we shd stay in? cos we want to stay in an area where it's safe but accessible to some attractions too....someone recommended me to stay in Richmond Area where it's near the airport & they said it's a good and safer area but if it's soo near to airport, does that mean it's not very accessible to attractions cos we are not driving so likely, we be using the public transportation...
2) And it be awesome if u could recommend me some accomodation choices within that suggested area that might accomodate the 4 of u at below $200
3) what would the weather be like in early April?

Thanks in advance ^_^

Vancouver Car hire
Posted: Mon January 19, 2009 10:13 AM UTC
Is it possible to hire a car from (and return to) Vancouver and drive to Calgary in September AND drive to Seattle and some parts of the northern USA? I had a feeling cars hired in one country were really expensive to take into another. Also we are Australians and not experienced in the snow or ice (would I be correct in thinking that time of the year would be fine?) Thanks for your time.

Vancouver Good area
Posted: Thu January 15, 2009 04:58 PM UTC
Further to my question below about hotels, what's a good area to stay in? I've gotten a few recommendations from other people as well about downtown. I just want to be central, around lots of the attractions. But I also don't spend all my time sightseeing - I like shops, restaurants and good pubs/bars. Preferrably within walking distance or at least close to good transportation. I'll pretty much take the bus wherever, but then at night we usually just walk to dinner/for drinks, so I'd want to be close to where we're staying.

Also, what's parking like? We're probably going to rent a car for a day or two to go to White Rock.

THANKS!

Vancouver visiting during spring break with tight time limitations
Posted: Mon January 12, 2009 07:54 PM UTC
My family is coming to Spokane for a volleyball tournament during Spring Break. We wish to come up the Monday prior. First thought was to fly into Seattle, then go up to Victoria. Rethinking that plan it might be better to fly into Vancouver and come down. We, two teenagers - my husband and myself, must be in Spokane by Thursday noon. So you see, time is very tight! ;( Need help making the most of the time we do have. Thank you in advance for any info anyone might have for us.

Vancouver VANCOUVER ISLAND
Posted: Sat January 10, 2009 09:25 PM UTC
We are doing a tour of western Canada this year from England and as part of this we are travelling into Port Hardy on the Inside Passage ferry from Prince Rupert and have one day before moving on to Tofino. We would like to go Whale Watching to see Orcas. Is there any companies that go out of Port Hardy or Port McNeill for a half day trip - I can't seem to find any that specifically do this. Also has anyone driven the journey from Port Hardy to Tofino in one day. All information says it takes about 8 1/2 hours is this so and are there any eating/refreshment stops along highway 19? Any other useful information about this area or these trips would be very much appreciated.

Vancouver Transport from Vancouver Airpor to Greyhound Terminal, Vancouver
Posted: Mon January 5, 2009 05:06 PM UTC
Arriving March 3rd for ski holiday in Whistler. Greyhound looks oK.
Two questions:
1. Is taxi the cheapest way from airport (four of us)to the Greyhound Terminal. It seems to be about 35 CAD each way. Can the average taxi carry four cases, hand luggage, and a double ski/boot bag?
2. What is the Greyhound service like to Whistler.

Sorry if questions seem trivial, but after a 10 hour flight we don't want to be faffing about at the airport for transport or paying more than is necessary.
Thanks, DC

Vancouver Short-term furnished accomodation in Vancouver, please recommend!
Posted: Sun December 21, 2008 09:05 PM UTC
Hello,

We are relocating to Vancouver and expect to land there on January 19th. We need short-term furnished accommodation before we find a permanent place to live.

I've checked hotels, some guest houses etc. but still haven't found the right one for us. The problem is that we ideally require a kitchen and laundry which is not the case with many hotels (or the price is enormous). I also checked Craigslist for some personal ads but it's quite uncomfortable for me to rent what I can't see :(

So, the question is:

Can anyone recommend any place with above requirements + internet for approximately 40-50 CAD per night for 2 adults and 1 small child? Ideal place would be Burnaby close to Metrotown but any other location will also be appreciated!

Thanks very much in advance.

Kind regards,
Sergey.
