Good day hikes? Posted: Sat April 7, 2007 04:02 PM UTC
I'll be in yellowstone for the first weekend of June. What would you recomend as a good day hikes about 15 miles long and away from the crowds? I'll be coming through the north entrance. Also a good campsite. if this is easier to do in the tetons let me know that is okay. I've only got two and a half days i need to make the most of it.

Need Advice for Yellowstone and Grand Teton Posted: Fri April 6, 2007 10:38 PM UTC
Hi there!!!
We r planning to fly to Salt Lake city and then drive to Grand Teton spend two days there and then drive to Yellowstone and spend 3 days there. Can anybody guide for the cheap accomadation for 4 adults.....We r ready to stay within 50 miles radius......Since Yellowstone is very big. Do you think in order to see whole park we will have to change lodging? and i hope 3 days are ok for it..one last question how much snow i can expect on Grand Teton Mountains.....any suggesations related to lodging or anything to make our trip worth would be great .....Thanks in Advance

Traveling with trailer from Pa Posted: Mon April 2, 2007 06:06 PM UTC
Hi, planning a trip to yellowstone this summer. I have a 30 ft travel trailer which is pulled by a Chevy pickup truck. Traveling from Pa should be an experience one that we should enjoy if all goes well. My main concern is the mountians that I might encounter on my way to yellowstone. Have never been west so anything outside of Pa is new to me. I would like to know what is the best route, not mearly the shortest but the one which I wont encounter those huge mountian ranges i would need to climb over. We have some mountians here in Pa but nothing as i have heard I might encounter in the west. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Ed and Estelle

Boise - Yellowstone - Glacier N.P. Posted: Fri March 23, 2007 11:24 PM UTC
Hi!
My husband and I are young and active and are going to Boise - Grand Tetons - Yellowstone - Glacier N.P. - Boise loop from May 23-June 3rd. I want to see everything and anything and would love to break for some worthy hikes/backpacks in both parks (Tetons we plan to canoe, only 1-2 days there). We really only have about 3-4 days in each park, so please give me some advice on any "must sees" this time of year, since we are about to become ex-patriots (Singapore) and will not have access to this lovely land for a long while. We're both first timers as well.
Any and all help is much appreciated.
Cheers,
Leah

Best Places to Stay Posted: Mon March 19, 2007 01:24 AM UTC
We are going to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons in Aug. We have reservations at Jackson Lake Lodge. For Yellowstone we are starting at Mammoth and have reservations there. For the rest of the park visit we have to choose between Lake Yellowstone Hotel and the Old Faithful Inn - any advice?

yellowstone-teton tour Posted: Sat February 24, 2007 09:44 AM UTC
I`m planning a tour of Teton & Yellowstone parks during june initialy flying into salt lake city and hiring a car. Ive booked a 2 night stay at Jackson then intend to drive upto Gardiner driving through the parks on route for another 2 night stay, already booked.I have the car for nine days in total, had thought about driving back through yellowstone exiting at east entrance, and using the remainder of th car hire to see Arches national park staying at perhaps Vernal and Moab, before returning to Salt Lake City.Am I being a bit optimistic in thinking I can put this together.Coming from across the big pond I`m not too sure of what distances are involved and the time scale to be considered.Any advice about best sights to see would be greatly appreciated.

Honeymoon in Yellowstone Posted: Tue February 6, 2007 03:25 AM UTC
My fiance and I are planning a honeymoon trip to Yellowstone. We are looking for suggestions for accomadations. We would like to spend some nights in a hotel (less rustic, more honeymoon like) and maybe some nights in a more rustic setting. Are there vacation home rental options available near the park? Is Jackson, WY close enough to get to experience the park on day trips? We would both appreciate any info!

possible spring trip to Yellowstone Posted: Wed January 17, 2007 06:58 PM UTC
I'm considering a hiking excursion to Yellowstone around May, and I had a couple questions. First, all my experience around mountains is from the Appalachians which are getting increasingly overrun by tourists every year...you just can't hike anymore without bumping into somebody (which defeats the whole purpose of "getting away from the rat race") How's the crowding situation at Yellowstone? Is it possible to find a nice quiet scenic spot to stop and take in the view without somebody's kid making a fuss? Also, how's the weather in late spring?

Yellowstone in winter Posted: Sun January 14, 2007 03:50 PM UTC
I am driving across the country and will be around the Yellowstone area the beginning of February. I'm trying to see how accessable the park will be. Granted, a storm could fly through and close down everything, but generally, if I have a 4 wheel suv, will the main roads through the park be open at all? I would like to either drive to Rock Springs and head north through the Tetons, or head across from Casper, also through the Tetons and then North to Yellowstaone. Is this possible this time of year? I would then like to proceed North on (89) to Canada.

10 day trip for the summer 07 Posted: Wed November 8, 2006 01:35 AM UTC
I done a lot research on a 10 day trip for the summer. I was originaly thinking of flying from Florida into Hartford, CT(to pick-up my daughter to join the family)then from Hartford into Rapid City but I notice that the prices for the flights to Rapid CIty are expensive. Then I looked into the Denver airport and found the prices to be much more economical. So here is what I planned: Arrive at Denver airport late in the afternoon, rent a car, and drive to Chayenne, WY and stay there for the night. Then early in the morning head to mt. rushmore and enjoy the sights for the rest of the afternoon and stay for the night. Then, the next day, just before mid-day, head to yellowstone and stay at the park for 4 nights and one night at the tetons before heading back to Denver. I have the latest radars and gps devices with me so I can travel much faster without getting lost.

Yellowstone and Teton parcs Posted: Sun November 5, 2006 02:41 PM UTC
we, (that is my wife and 3 childrenand me) want to do a camping holliday in the yellowstone and grand Teton, north mid-west area in mid july 2007
I am very curious (read: worried) for a couple of things:
1)How do I avoid getting into a bumper to bumper trailer-camper nightmare?
2)are there any other sort of campgrounds than tarmaced-plugin-trailer grounds
for real back to nature camping with small tents and privacy?
3)where can I rent a sturdy car (eg a cherokee or ford explorer) in this area
arriving from the east coast by plane? and where is it best to fly to regard to best car rental and distances?
4)Is free/wild camping allowed/possible in Wyoming? or is it stupid in respect
to crime,wild bears etc.
if anyone can advise us on these matters I would appreciate your experiences and advises very much!
regards, Erik Rempt

Later in the day geyser viewing Posted: Sun October 29, 2006 10:15 PM UTC
I already reserved 4 nights at yellowstone in July of next year but now I am worried about the crowds. My first day itenary was to visit the old faithful geyser, being it the top spot to visit. But the crowds will be something to consider. I was thinking of visiting canyon village first perhaps there are less visitors at old faithful geyser later in the day. I will appreciate any input.

Rent RV and Camp or Rent Car and Stay in Lodge. Posted: Sun September 24, 2006 11:57 AM UTC
We're planning a trip to Yellowstone with family next Summer(08). We're questionning if we should rent an RV and drive in, camp around, or simply fly in and rent a car, and rent hotel rooms? We're traveling with a family of 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 13-7). If we fly, we'd like to visit Yellowstone and the Gran Tetons. If we RN, then we want to visit Mount Rushmore on the drive west from Indiana. We're looking forward to spending some great times with the kids on a 2 week vacation from Indiana. We need suggestions on the best time to go, crowds, must see's, etc. Thanks!

Uncrowded camping Posted: Mon September 4, 2006 06:42 PM UTC
Hi,
We're planning a trip to Yellowstone in '07 and would be grateful for any info on camping in the park. We aren't crazy about the campgrounds where you can touch your neighbor and there is no privacy at all. We have two teenagers so something totally primitive probably wouldn't work. Thanks a lot for your help!!

Suggestions for a travel itinerary Posted: Sat August 12, 2006 01:21 PM UTC
Hello,
I am just beginning to plan a trip to Yellowstone.
Our trip needs to take place in June of 2007.
We have six children who will be ranging in age from 18 down to almost 3 when the trip takes place.
For our older children this may be our only chance to see Yellowstone with them and I want to make the most of it.
I am looking for guidance about the best way to see Yellowstone.
Thanks

Yellow stone & Mt Rushmore 6 day trip ? Posted: Fri August 4, 2006 02:42 AM UTC
I'm from New jersey and planning to visit Yellow stone and Mt Rushmore in last week of August this year. I'll be travelling with a group of 7 adults and an infant. We'll have 6 days and are looking forward to a relaxing vacation. We are kind of planning in the last minute and are clueless as to which airport in Wyoming we should fly to, things to do and must see activities etc.
Here is what we're thinking at this point.
Aug 29 - Fly to Mt Rushmore From New york
Aug 30-31 - Sightseeing around Mt Rushmore
Sep 1 - Drive to Yellow stone national park
Sep 2-3 - Cover sight seeing around Yellow stone
Sep 4 - Fly back home from Wyoming.
If its going to be too hectic we can just stick with flying to Yellow stone and spending all the time around the area.I'll really appreciate guidance in planning this trip and let me know if the above plan sounds do-able.

Yellowstone in Park Camping Posted: Thu July 20, 2006 07:46 PM UTC
Hello Yellowstone Chat page,
First timer to yellowstone. Flexible on times for August and September. Looking to avoid crowds (as much as possbile). I would like to go as soon as the crowds drop off in August based on my assumption that this happens due to kids being back in school but still would like to catch some decent weather. We are usually tenters but are going with an RV this time due to having a baby with us so nitetime cold is not an issue. So the quetion is when would the ideal time be between "crowd drop off" and the increased liklehod of cold daytime temps.
Part 2 - anyone with some specific campsite reccemmendations for me in the Park? Want to make this the best trip I can, of course I know it will be great anyway.
PS- I live in Colorado and do realize the extreme variation in weather that occurs due to altitiude AND and I grew up in Chicago so I can handle some cold weather.
Thanks in advance!

Going mid-september - have some questions Posted: Thu June 22, 2006 01:46 AM UTC
I've looked all over various websites and can't seem to find an answer. We're flying into Billings MT on 9/16, will spend 1 week between Yellowstone and Grand Tetons - what's the chance we'll hit the fall colors?
Also, most of our hotels are in the park, 2 nights in a cabin. Are these places comparable to say, Holiday Inn without the TV? I don't suppose there are coffee makers in the rooms, are there? I can live without everything else, but I need my coffee in the morning. We've got a travel pot, should I bring it with us?

The snow lodge in winter Posted: Mon June 19, 2006 05:53 AM UTC
I'm thinking about going to the snow lodge for a couple of days this winter. What is a good time? How do you get there? Do you catch the snow coach in Jackson or West Yellowstone? Is it routine for them to drop you off and pick you up?
Thanks

Getting there Posted: Sun May 28, 2006 10:53 AM UTC
What is the easiest (and cheapest) way to get here? Fly to Bozeman, MT and then shuttle to West Yellowstone; fly to Salt lake City and then drive up from there, or to geto to jackson, WY? I live in NY so I would have to first fly somewhere then connect.
