Sweden ABBA tourism
Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 06:00 AM UTC
I have a soft spot in my heart for that greatest of '70s bands. I'm going to be in Sweden this summer, and am wondering if anyone has any tips for tourist spots related to ABBA. I'm looking for things like the old recording studios, locations of video shoots, possibly home-towns, that sort of thing. I'm not interested in stalking the former band members, just indulging in a little nostalgia.

I see that there's an ABBA museum being built in Stockholm, but sadly it won't open until 2009.

So does anyone have some inside tips?

Sweden Where to go mountain hiking
Posted: Thu May 8, 2008 08:49 PM UTC
Hi everyone.
My wife has had a long desire to visit Sweden. This September will be our twenty fifth wedding anniversary so I plan to surprise her. We are very keen hill/mountain walkers and can take anything thrown at us in England and Wales. Can anyone advise me which is the best area to visit for mountain walking but preferably not too remote and reasonably accessible. Many thanks to you all

Stockholm Looking for casual local lunch or "take out" suggestions
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 08:49 PM UTC
Hi,

Unfortunately I only have two days (non consecutive) in Stockholm during my August/Sept cruise in Europe and on one day was planning to walk the old town and perhaps visit a museum or two. I am looking for a casual place (outdoor would be preferred, but not necessary) to grab a local lunch and something to drink. Want to sample some traditional Swedish food, but not spend a lot of time or money. Don't even mind getting something at a market (fish?) to take out, if this is even an option. Can you suggest something?

On my second day I thought I'd take a ferry to Fjärdeholmarna or Vaxholm and would want to find something similar.

Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.

Stockholm Solo Travel to Stockholm
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 04:10 AM UTC
I am heading to Stockholm @ the end of June - 8 nights; also doing 2 on the Silja ferry to Helsinki. I would love to meet some people (either from N. America or other countries or Sweden) there to possibly grab drinks or go to a club with so I am not doing everything by myself...that does get a bit boring. Sometimes solo travel makes it tough to get into the social scene but I really want to experience it - have heard it's a great time.

I am not sure if there are good places (forums/boards for travel) to see if others are headed there as well who might be single/late 20s. This seemed to be a good site. Maybe some recs. on bars/clubs for singles esp. ones that you could mix and mingle and not feel uncomfortable.

I am also thinking of attending the Accelerator Indie music concert/fest on the 25th and would really be interested to hear from those who might also be going!

My dates are June 24th - July 1st

Thanks!

I took these pictures 30 years ago and put them on my web site in 1988.
One of my pictures on my Sweden page was in fact from Norway (moved it already)
Can someone identify them ?

Sweden Driving between Copenhagen and Stockholm
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 07:08 PM UTC
I'm planning a trip between Copenhagen and Stockholm this summer. I will likely need to rent a car as I want to visit some out of the way places in southern Sweden in between. My tentative plan is to fly into one, rent a car for the drive between, then fly out of the other (direction doesn't matter). I don't need to keep the car in either Copenhagen or Stockholm, only to get between them.

If anyone has experience with renting cars in Denmark and Sweden:

1. How expensive are 1-way car rentals? Is it so bad that I'd be better off re-arranging my trip as a circle to return the car to the same place?

2. Would I be better off renting or returning the car in Malmö instead of Copenhagen? My very quick web search seems to indicate this might be cheaper.

3. Any tips on reasonably priced and reliable car rental companies?

Thanks for any advice!

Skanör med Falsterbo Herring travel
Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 09:08 AM UTC
I'd like to go to Skanör/Falstebro to eat herring, study herring history (to some extent) and to get a feeling of the hering past in this region. When should I go,and what should I do? (And eventually: Whom should I talk with?)

I consider this summer, but could wait if there is a reason for that.

Sweden Booking a train
Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 06:17 PM UTC
I have tried to book train tickets with the website www.bokatag.se but apparently they accept reservations and credit card payments only from people who are resident in Scandinavia, France or Germany.
Is there any other website I can use to buy tickets online?

Sweden Getting From Arlanda to the Silja ferry, How ?
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 11:55 PM UTC
I will be landing at Arlanda at 2:00 and need to get to the Silja ferry before it leaves at 5:00.
First I need to get a SL ticket at the airport for bus 583/583X going to Marstra station, then get on the commuter train to Stockholm Central, is this right so far ? (will my ticket I buy at the airport cover the bus and commuter train ? or do I have to buy another ticket at Marstra for the commuter train?)

Then when I get to Central station how do I get to the Silja ferry? I am told it is at Vartan Port, near the T Gardet Station.

How long will this take ? thinking I wont get out of the airport before 2:30 and I should be at the ferry no later than 4:30. will I have enough time or do I have to skip the Bus and commuter train and pay more to take the Arlanda Express right to Central Station ?

Thank you so much

Stockholm Self-catering apartments for short stay?
Posted: Thu April 10, 2008 09:25 AM UTC
Hi everyone,

i'm trying to find an apartment in Stockholm or surroundings for a three-day stay arriving 22 May. We are a group of six people (no children) and would prefer our own place to hotels or hostels, but we're not having much luck so far. I looked at 110apartments.com but they had no vacancies that suited us, and the only other self-catering places available seem to be holiday cottages out of town that can only be had by the week, not for three days. I'm getting rather frustrated now :o(. Any advice?

Thanks!

Posted: Tue April 8, 2008 03:54 PM UTC
I was thinking of taking the ferry to Gotland when I come to Sweden, I was going to fly but its too expensive, SAS air wants $377 us dollars for a round trip ticket, so I thought I might take the ferry. my plane lands at 7:35 am on June 2, if I read the ferry schedule right it leaves at 11:05 am. (could someone verfy this)
Would I have enough time to make the ferry and how would be the best way to get to Nynashamn from Arlanda ? Thank you

Sweden Planning trip in Sweden
Posted: Sun April 6, 2008 02:36 PM UTC
Hej!Hope you would help me in planning my
first visit to Sweden. My husband and I will arrive in
Stockholm 9.6.08 3.30pm, leaving 1.00pm 17.6.08. we
are planning to stay 2 nights there and then rent a
car to visit the well presevered nature and
countryside outside Stockholm. I plan for 2 nights
farm stay. For the time being I've spotted a farm
named Taby Gard near Arboga. Do you have any better
suggestion? I would like to relax and enjoy the scenic
countrysides in variation-- seaside, lakeside and
mountain. Where shall I go to see the best at this
time of the year within my time constrain? We don't
want to rush too much. We may consider flying back
besides driving if necessary. Our interests are
nature, small town and villages, garderns, ood local
food and markets, outdoor activities like horse
riding, cycling, canoeing, forest walk (not too
straineous though) I wish to go to places where the
locals go, not just those touristic places.
By the way, how's the weather like during that time?
Is it still spring or already summer? The temperature?
We are from tropical country, please give some hints
on what to pack. Is there any festival around that
time?
Tack.

Stockholm dinner events in Stockholm
Posted: Sat April 5, 2008 03:22 PM UTC
Our Forum IPsphere, is hosting a meeting in Stockholm. I need to plan a dinner event for the night of May 20th. I've been researching ideas over the internet but I live in the USA and its difficult since I've never been to Stockholm. From what I can see, its a beautiful city surounded by water. I was wondering if you could recommend 3-4 ideas of something a large group can do, approx. 40 people. Maybe a dinner cruise, great restaruant etc. We're interested in something historic to your city.

Could you please help with ideas, names etc. Thank you so much,
Michelle
