I am hoping to go to a concert in Cluj Napoca sometime in 2010. Would it be best to take a train from Budapest to get to Cluj Napoca? And will the border crossing be safe? (I heard rumours that officials take your passport and demand a bribe before handing it back? has this ever happened to anyone?)
Is the train station within walking distance of the city centre? Is the Philharmonic concert hall in the city centre? I intend to stay in a hotel and walk everywhere. Which language other than Romanian would be best understood? English, French or Italian? German?

I am planning on moving to Cluj in the Spring. My Romanian is limited but I am working on it. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look for work or volunteer work?

I love Rumanian antique or old fabrics and clothes, as well as the old original objects of the Transilvanian tradition. Are there antique shops or dealers, and flea markets, in Cluj? Thank you for answering my question!

I need to get from Cluj Napoca to Munich in mid July and I'm a budget backpacker. I can't find out if there are any bus routes to Munich from Cluj and I have no idea how much train tickets will cost. All the flights are too expensive.If anyone has any idea about train or bus/coach routes then I'd be sooo grateful. Thanks, tom g

My husband and I will be in Cluj Napoca for a couple weeks. We are wondering if there are local tour companies that can arrange a quick 2 day tour to see the Hagia Sophia/Blue Mosque in Turkey? Would we have better luck with locating a tour from another city - such as Bucharest?

I just stumbled on to this site this evening when searching for information on my coming trip to Cluj! What a fantastic site and opportunity with an amazing amount of relevant and interesting information sharing!

Ok, ok - let me get to the point :-)

I am traveling to Cluj on Saturday, Oct. 28th. for business on Mon/Tues and I have taken the weekend to explore and to get a feel for the city, Romania, its people and culture.

I have the impression from reading a few posting in VT, that the city is fairly easy to get around in and I guess I will spend some time taking in a few of the main attractions (perhaps a trip to La Turda). If anyone can recommend any cafés, bars and/or restaurants or just any place for Saturday evening and Sunday brunch for people watching, meeting strangers and where people are fairly relaxed, I would appreciate this very much.

I read the Alex's comment about the Carpati - that sounded nice, so I will try to find that. I guess I can find an address, when I get there?

And if there is anything particular going on this weekend, any special events, festical, parties I would love to get a tip!

I don't know if it's the place to post such a question but I am trying.

I am from Switzerland but was living in Cluj-Napoca for 3 months in 2004 (February to April). There I met a girl named Annamari and we became friends.

When I left Cluj I had her cellular phone number but as I lost my own cellular phone last year I lost also her number.

Annamari is from Hungarian origin and was studying History at Cluj University. She is from a small village in the Center of Romania (sorry I don't remember the name). Her boyfriend Csongi is also from the same village. He was studying archaelogy also at Cluj University.

Now Annamari must be 26 years old and she might have finished her studies. She used to work at the Tranzit House in Cluj but left this place before I left Cluj. I don't know her last name.

I'm travelling to Cluj-Napoca with 3 friends on the 20th of March until the 25th/26th. I've been there lots of times but my usual accomodation is not available this time, and the only hostel I can find on the internet (Retro) is all booked out!!! The hotels are quite expensive, so unless I go without food for the week it looks like I'll be sleeping on the street! Does anybody know of a secret hostel that's not on the internet, or a house/apartment somewhere in Cluj that rents out rooms??? Also, are there any community art groups or people involved in community art projects in Cluj-Napoca and the surrounding area? One of the reasons for this particular trip is to do some research into a community art project I would like to set up in a poor area of nearby Turda.
