| Houston | looking for a home... Posted: Wed August 22, 2007 06:14 PM UTC
I was looking into buying a home in Humble Texas, I really liked the foxwood, homes the problem is I've been hearing that people are complaining about the planes going in and out from the airport at night, does anyone know if this is true. Would it be a bad idea to buy here because of the noise?

I'm coming to Houston from Denmark to study opera at the Moores School of Music at UH. I'm not sure the the dorms are for me, and since I'm not familiar with the Houston area, I need to know where it is safe for me to look for an apartment. I have no drivers license and will be dependant on being able to travel with public tranportation or bike to and from school... I found an apartment on this address that I can afford, but don't know if the area is oay:

| Houston | waterwall parking Posted: Mon May 14, 2007 06:28 AM UTC
Where do you park at the waterwall ? No parking signs are posted all around it.
I wanted elderly family members to enjoy a little tour of the waterwall and it's park on a weekday and couldn't find any close parking, so we had to forgo it. I was dissapointed they did not get to enjoy this spectacular Houston site. Pls advise - thank you much ! |

| Houston | Relocating from Scotland Posted: Thu May 3, 2007 03:09 PM UTC
Hello,
This is my first post, so please be patient if I ramble! I am from Scotland but my husband is due to relocate to Houston this year, and I will be moving with him. I am very excited about the move but also a little apprehensive as have never lived abroad before. I am trying to figure out where we want to live. He will be working in Rosharon, and I am not sure whether I will be working, but most likely if I do work it will be in the medical district or somewhere similar as I have a medical research background. We have friends living in the Bellaire area, but other than that do not really know anyone yet. We have no children, but do have a dog who loves his freedom in Scotland. Here we can let him run off the lead all the time as he is very well behaved (I believe this is not the case in Texas?), so would be looking for something relatively close to somewhere we can take him for exercise. Other than that basically we are looking for somewhere safe and pleasant to live, somewhere we can get out and about a bit and have some fun. We both love the outdoors particularly windsurfing and mountainbiking. Any advice on areas for renting would be greatly appreciated. So far we have thought of Clear lake, Pearland, or something in the centre of Houston (If it is worth it for the sake of keeping in touch with people) Thanks |

| Houston | Tips on moving to Houston, TX Posted: Mon April 16, 2007 04:26 AM UTC
My son will be attending Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Houston, TX come this September. I'm extremely worried about his safety. I've been online numerous times to check the good and bad areas surrounding Houston, and unfortunately, I'm more concerned now for his safety than I was last week. It seems that crime is very high in Houston. Could you tell me, which areas we should avoid, especially when it comes to living and working. Which are the bad areas and which are the good ones. UTI campus is at 721 Lockhaven Drive, Houston, 77073. Any suggestions, recommendations, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am relocating for a job in downtown Houston and since I've lived in Michigan all my life, I obviously am not familiar with the area. I'm looking for apartments and since I will be alone (and female), I don't want to move near any kind of shady area. I've had some help and most of the apts he's sent look nice but they're all around Houston Astrodome. Any tips???

| Houston | Interracial couple with child relocating to Houston from England Posted: Tue March 27, 2007 03:13 PM UTC
Hello,
Well, it's my first time here but I've been reading your helpful advices for a few days now and decided to ask my own questions. We are a British couple with a 3 yr old daughter and it looks like my partner will be relocated to Houston. He works for JP Morgan in London and his office may be able to negotiate a senior position for him. I've never been to the States but I am really looking forward to moving here. I've checked houses online and I was amazed at the kind of space and quality one can buy here. So here are my questions: Which are the safest, loveliest neighbourhoods? We are after a nice quiet location; after the crime and grime in London all we want is a nice neighbourhood where we can raise our family safely. My partner is a black man and I am a white woman and our child is a little brown girl so it is paramount that the area we're moving to is non-racist (from either sides). My partner's salary is gonna be around a 100grand/year; I'm not sure how good it is in Houston and what our money can buy for us. I am a Market Research Analyst and I wish to start working as well, probably after a few months of settling down. Other priorities are of course low/no crime as I've seen a lot of awful things in London that I don't want to see anymore. Good schools are very important as well; I want the best possible education for my child(ren). I appreciate your help, Thanks, Katuska |

| Houston | Safe and affordable place to live in Houston for a family with 2 young kids Posted: Sat March 24, 2007 07:40 AM UTC
I accepted a job offer to work in Houston this June; I will live temporarily in Westchase area for a month and then look for my own apartment afterward. My wife and 2 kids aged 8 and 5 will follow after I find a place to stay. Can anyone advice and show me the right direction? Its our first time to relocate and weve been living in Tokyo for the past 9 years lest my 2 kids cannot speak English and perhaps finding some Japanese communities will be a great relief for them to adjust quickly. Some of the factors which I think is very important to consider: preferably near to metro line because I will be using train/bus network for the meantime to commute to my work. Kid friendly environment; I mean, places near to hospitals, school, parks, etc. Any suggestion appreciated. Thank you very much!

| Houston | Where to rent in Houston Posted: Thu March 1, 2007 03:31 AM UTC
Hi all, I am moving to Houston to take a job at MD Anderson cancer center. I intend to rent for the first year and was wondering on what areas you guys would suggest to live or can suggest a nice apartment complex. I would like to be on the bus or train line, I have noticed it is hard to find places that dont seem to have a problem with crime, refugees from New Orleans etc. The area around Anderson seems to be somewhat ugly. How far out into the burbs does the train system go. Also how about flooding, the flood maps seem to show that the west part of the city suffers less rain fall and flooding that the rest of the city.

| Houston | Houston for 2-3 Nights - Best Areas to Stay? Posted: Sat February 17, 2007 04:06 PM UTC
Hi All,
I will be in Houston with my husband for two-three nights in April (Easter weekend). I am looking for the best area to stay. I have the following criteria (in order of importance) 1) Lots of restaurants (mix of upscale & downscale; different choices - American, Mexican, Indian, Vietnamese, Italian etc....) 2) Interesting architecture - office towers, churches, old buildings etc. 3) Museums/theatres within walking distance or accessible by public transportation 4) Small, interesting local shops of any sort Any ideas or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know if things (restaurants/shops/tourist attractions) tend to be closed on either Good Friday or Easter Monday? Thanks so much! April |

| Houston | Relocating Posted: Fri January 19, 2007 10:51 PM UTC
Hi everyone. My husband and I currently live in New York with our three kids. We have decided to move over the summer to Houston, Texas. I want to know about the good neighborhoods in Houston. I also want to know about the schools and colleges that are good there. I am searching for a good elementary, middle school, and a good college. I've heard about places called sugarland, spring, and katy. What are the positions for a pharmaceautical chemist? Do they have job openings there over there? Will I easily get a job? A area with Pakistani descent and shops are to be looked about too. It would be nice to have a mosque nearby a nice area. Thank You.
