In 1990 there was a mcdonalds restaurant inside the galleria, whatever happened to the business? Has it moved to a new location? I would like to have the address and phone number. An old friend worked there.

Houston Where to live in Houston?
Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 03:11 PM UTC
Hi all.
Being as I am in the midst of new job hunting and probably going to DC, I just came across an opportunity for a job in Houston I would like.

So this brings up many issues.

I need to know where I would probably want to live. I'd be looking to buy a place and want to keep it affordable with an eye towards resale in 3-5.

I know next to nothing about this part of Texas so let me know what you think.
Thanks
Chris

Houston Hello, transportaion advic would be great of possible.
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 03:48 PM UTC
Having read through many pages here over the last dew hours (thanks) I am beginning to panic about the fact that having a car seems to be the only way possible to get around Houston!

I am acommpanying my husband on a business trip for a week. We are staying at the Willowbrook Hilton. I will have to keep myself amused in the day times. I will not be able to drive abroad. I have tried it once -diaster! What if anything could you reccommend? Are taxis going to be hideously expensive?

It's a shame that we couldn't have been more central. Hope I don't regret tagging along now lol!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Houston Traveling by Bus
Posted: Wed April 16, 2008 04:13 PM UTC
I am traveling to Houston on a business trip in June. I am allergic to everything, so I will probably have to eat dinner at Whole Foods Market. Google Maps Traffic has helped me rule out renting a car. So I was planning on taking the bus. How safe is the public transportation, are there any rules that I need to follow? And is the nearest Whole Foods safe? (I will be staying downtown near the ballpark)

Thanks in advance.

Houston 1 week Houston visit - top 10 to do's??
Posted: Mon March 17, 2008 12:05 PM UTC
Hello,
We're from the UK visiting my uncle in Spring, Houston for a week from 29th March 2008.

I would appreciate your suggestions on:

1) Where to stay?
We're looking for a decentish hotel (3* upwards) within a 30 minute drive of Spring preferably where there are some bars and restaurants.

2) What to do?
There will be four of us(all male), 2 in our 30's and 2 in their early 60's. As my uncle is recovering from an operation and my father has bad knees, we can't do anything too active. Ideas so far include:
- Boating/fishing
- Sporting event
- Gun shooting (not hunting)
- Something motoring related - we're all petrol heads.
- Anything slightly off the wall - e.g. visiting the mirrored glass toilet downtown??!!

Any other ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Houston One night in Houston-bad location
Posted: Tue March 4, 2008 09:35 AM UTC
Hello all!
I'll be in Houston several times over the next little while, each time for just one night/day. My company puts me up at the Houston Marriott North at Greenspoint (255 North Sam Houston Parkway East). I understand this location is close to the airport. Is there anything close by, even if I have to take a short taxi ride there? When I say anything, I'm looking for a wide variety of things-a nice dinner at a non-chain restaurant, a non-country music bar, possibly some outlet shopping, a museum or something I may not have thought of. I may be on my own, as I can't be sure my colleagues will care to join me, so safety is also key(especially in the evening). Thanks for any tips!

Houston Hotels near Minute Maid Park
Posted: Wed February 13, 2008 05:46 PM UTC
I am visiting Houston in June to see my beloved Yankees take on the Astros. I have not been to Houston since I was 16 years old so I don't know the city or the area surrounding the ballpark at all. Can anyone help me find a decent hotel near the park? The Inn at the Ballpark is booked. Does anyone know about Club Quarters? It's about 5-6 blocks away on Fannin Street. I don't plan on renting a car so I would like something close to the ballpark and within walking distance to local attractions (if possible).

Houston Saudi Embassy/Hotel/Getting around
Posted: Fri October 26, 2007 08:50 AM UTC
Hello All,
I will be heading to Houston sometime in the middle of November to go to the Saudi Arabian Embassy to get a work visa. First, I have never been to Houston, so do not know where anything is. The help I need is;

1) Where is the Saudi Embassy located?
2) Are there any hotels located close to there?
3) How do I get from the airport to the hotel? (I do not have a drivers license so rental car is out)

I guess that is it for now. Any and all help is greatly appreciated

Houston International connections
Posted: Wed September 12, 2007 08:33 PM UTC
Hi all--

Has anyone connected internationally through Houston International Airport and/or Newark recently (Continental Airlines)? I would like to know what the procedure is.

I have connected International-to-International (I-t-I, Amsterdam-Atlanta-Lima/Bogota) through Atlanta (Delta Airlines) several times these last 12 months and know that the hold luggage is being labelled through to the final destination without having to pick it up, haul it through customs and re-check the luggage again (as for US domestic flights).

I know that there will be passport controls. But how about the luggage? Is there I-t-I also in IAH and/or EWR, similar to ATL?

Thanks for the answers and input.

Houston Being sent to Houston for 30 days- Advice.
Posted: Fri September 7, 2007 05:22 PM UTC
I'll be in Houston for 30 days and I've read the postings on good places to stay and places to avoid. However the work is do usually puts me in the worst areas of town. Can anyone help me on what dangers are most common and things/places to steer clear from all together. Mind you I've worked some rough places like Baltimore, D.C., Chicago, and (cringe) Philly. Just looking to get informed before I show up. Thanks
