Charleston Which One Would You Pick?
Posted: Thu June 26, 2008 06:16 PM UTC
Well, it looks like I'm headed back to Charleston this fall for another conference. This year I'm being given the option of reserving the Embassy Suites in North Charleston and the Hampton Inn - Historic District in Charleston.

Last year I had a bit of a disappointing stay at the Embassy Suites, and since the conference will be providing transportation to and from the sessions at the convention center...I was considering going with the Hampton Inn.

But I'm reading mixed reviews about the hotels, so maybe I should look at it from a location stand point. Which one would you pick for five days in Charleston?

Thanks in advance,

Sage

Charleston Requesting Homemade Soap Vendor's Contact Info in Charleston Market
Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 05:01 PM UTC
I recently bought some Oatmeal Honey homemade soap from a homemade soap vendor in the Market in Charleston. I only bought 1 bar because I didn't know if I'd like it and I LOVE it and want to purchase some more. I lost the card she put into my bag when I purchased it. If anyone can give me her information so I can order some more that would be great. I don't remember her name, but she was from the 'north' as she had a northern accent. I think she was originally from NY. Or, if there is a list of all vendors in the market, that would be good too.

Hello! I'm arriving June 2nd by plane, and not renting a car. I'm staying in the historic district and wondering what the best way to get to/from the airport is? I did see mention of a shuttle on the airport site, but no other information on it.

Charleston Cruise Ship Tourist
Posted: Thu November 22, 2007 01:27 PM UTC
I will be arriving by cruise ship in early May 2008. I will have only about 7 hrs in port.

I would like to visit the historic section of town. Is it walkable from the cruise ship pier? In addition to this I would like to visit a Civil War period plantation. There are organized shore excursions to do these things, but they are pricey and many on Cruise Critic forums suggest doing Charleston on one's own. Any advice appreciated. Thanks ....barrackman2....Montreal

Charleston Places to live near Charleston
Posted: Thu July 12, 2007 02:53 PM UTC
We are thinking of relocating to the Charleston area from Baltimore, Md. We are a little familiar with the area as we vacation there for 2 weeks every year. My husband will be working in Charleston but we would like to live somewhere a little farther from the city maybe a 10-15 minute commute. We are a progressive family with 2 kids under5 looking for a community of like minded people. Where do all the the city folk move when they have children and want a yard and a decent school? Any info from a local would be great.
Thanks.

Charleston Moving to Charleston......
Posted: Wed April 18, 2007 12:28 AM UTC
Hello everyone,

I am brand new to this site, but it seems to offer a lot of good advice. My girlfriend and I are considering a move to Charleston. I crave warm weather, the ocean and outdoor activities, as does she. From that perspective, Charleston seems like a good fit. I have read many posts and forums on the neighborhoods, schools and things of that nature so I do not need any other advice on the subject. I am trying to discover some more of the intangibles.

She is from Ohio and Jewish, I am from Indianapolis and Catholic. Neither one of us are particulary religious. Both of us are artistic and independent/democrats. I have been many times as a tourist but have heard that people from other states will never seem to fit in with the locals. I have also heard that it is a very conservative and Baptist city. Would people with our demographics fit in with the city culture? Both of us are very laid back, respective of differing viewpoints and cultures. We would never be the kind of transplants to attempt to change where we are to where we are from.

She has a job in advertising, I have two masters degrees, one in public administration and one in informatics.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Charleston My favorite drinking fountain in the world!
Posted: Sun September 17, 2006 05:42 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me the name of the sculptor who did the drinking fountain in White Point Park? I refer to the one of the little girl playing in the puddle.
As simple as it is, it is a favorite of mine. And, if there is such a thing as a replica of it, I'd love to have a copy (of the sculpture at least) for my garden.

Thanks!

Charleston Any info helpful!
Posted: Tue July 18, 2006 09:13 PM UTC
Hi Guys! VT'ers are the greatest! You have helped me before and here I am again!Myself & four adult family members are visting Charleston the middle of September for probably 5 nights. Ideally, we would like to spend time at the Beach and also do alot of tourist things downtown. We are flying in and wondered if we stayed at one of the beaches if any of the hotels offer free shuttle to downtown? We would prefer at least a 3 star(preferably, 4 star, depending on expense)into downtown as we would frequent there. We are close to retirement age, but still "young"(LOL).Which beach do you recommend for our age group? We are sticklers for "cleaniness" in our hotel. Any ideas on where to stay ?And we would like the beach area to offer possibly some restaurants, shopping etc. Am I dreaming?? is this doable???
Thanks so much for any ideas!!

Charleston What would be a nice area to live?
Posted: Thu July 6, 2006 10:21 AM UTC
Hey there!

My husband and I are planning a move to Charleston in about a year or so. We both visited the US in Feb 2006 and we LOVED it, especially the South! So now we're going to come and live there for 12 months, and i decided that Charleston looked like a great place to be, you know, becoz of all the history, and the pure Southern-ness of it all.
We'd like to rent an apartment or condo in a nice, safe, well respected, upper-class neighborhood, but NOT a beach area.
Can anyone tell me which neighborhoods would be suitable? Any advice would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks guys. :)

Charleston Folly Beach?
Posted: Wed May 17, 2006 05:55 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me a little bit about Folly Beach? I don't know anything about it and am considering a family vacation there this summer. Besides the beach are there things to do? Good restaurants? What's the overall feel of the town? Is it worth a trip? I've only really read about the Holiday Inn. Are there mostly rental properties? Any info would be appreciated. The websites I've found don't say too much. Thanks.
