Cluj-Napoca getting to and around Cluj Napoca
Posted: Mon November 2, 2009 12:12 AM UTC
I am hoping to go to a concert in Cluj Napoca sometime in 2010. Would it be best to take a train from Budapest to get to Cluj Napoca? And will the border crossing be safe? (I heard rumours that officials take your passport and demand a bribe before handing it back? has this ever happened to anyone?)
Is the train station within walking distance of the city centre? Is the Philharmonic concert hall in the city centre? I intend to stay in a hotel and walk everywhere. Which language other than Romanian would be best understood? English, French or Italian? German?
Thank you for any advice.

Also, how expensive is it to travel around the country and to neigbouring countries?

Targu-Mures Reliable Taxi Companies
Posted: Thu October 22, 2009 04:46 PM UTC
Which taxi companies would be reliable for a taxi from the airport to the bus station in Targu Mures? By 'reliable' I mean that would not rip us off or take the long way around as we will be in rather a hurry to get to the bus to get our bus to Sighisoara.

Thanks

Targu-Mures Maxitaxis to Sighisoara
Posted: Mon October 19, 2009 01:13 PM UTC
We are arriving in Targu Mures airport at 14.40. Need to get to Sighisoara. Regular Buses are at 15.15 or 17.15. Think its a bit optimistic to hope to get the 15.15 but don't really want to wait that long for the 17.15.

Are there any maxitaxis at around the right time (getting taxi from airport to bus station) and about how much would the fare be to Sighisoara? Also, do they take about the same time (1 hour)?

Thanks

Brasov Taxis in Brasov
Posted: Mon October 19, 2009 12:36 PM UTC
Hi

We are arriving by train to Brasov and staying at 'Dolce Far Niente' in Str. Lupeni. It seems that the train station is quite a way out of central Brasov. About how much should a taxi cost for this journey? Also are the taxis that would be at the station generally reliable or a rip-off?

Different subject - any recommendations for restaurants in Brasov - nice but not too expensive! :-)

Thanks

Romania how true are the rumors
Posted: Wed October 7, 2009 01:20 AM UTC
I plan on backpacking Europe alone in the spring and one of the places I plan on going to is Romania. Everyone I mention this to keeps telling me to be care, be safe, etc.
from what I have read about Romania is that you need to be careful there as much ass everywhere else. So does a lone female traveler have be more careful in Romania then else where.

Sighisoara Trains from Sighisoara to Brasov (and back again)
Posted: Thu October 1, 2009 04:22 PM UTC
Hi

We want to travel from SIghisoara to Brasov on a Wednesday morning returning on Friday morning.

What times are the trains (leaving Sighisoara about 10.00), how long is the journey and what is the fare? Do we have to book in advance and can we use any train from Brasov for the return or do we have to take a specific train? We would like to return leaving Brasov around 10.00 on the Thursday morning.

Also is there a Romanian rail website that I could use (in English :-)))

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Karen

Bucharest Bucharest walking city tours
Posted: Sun August 16, 2009 04:34 AM UTC
Hi All

Do you know of any walking tours available for tourists in Bucharest? I don't really like bus tours as you don't get to see much and you can't take good photos

I can't seem to find anything online. Any suggestion is appreciated!

Also do you know of any bram and peles castle tours? I plan to go to brasov with the train by myself for a full day (go early morning and come back late at night)

Thanks!
