Philadelphia What else to see or do?
Posted: Thu September 20, 2007 06:14 PM UTC
I amgoing to Phily next Tues with a friend to see te King Tut Exhibit. We plan to spend the day in the city and return home early evening. A few questions:

1. We will travel by Amtrak. Is it far/costly by cab to get to the museum (Franklin)?

2. What else could we see and do while there? (We are 2 females in our 30s)

3. We want to also do some shopping suggestions (not high end expensive..nice quality & reasonable shopping).

4. Food places?

5. Is the city easy to navigate?

6. Ares to avoid?

7. Good tips?

thanks

I like cats,cocktails,Bobby Bland,screwball comedies,Jean Arthur,scottish indie-pop circa 79-81,Robert B.Parker and songwriting.Thank you!

Philadelphia Activities for 3-year olds?
Posted: Mon August 20, 2007 09:22 PM UTC
We'll be in Philly from Aug. 29th-31st (my 40th b-day and our 10th wedding anniversary) and our 3-year old twins will be with us. Any suggestions for fun activities for kids that young? I'm thinking the Franklin Institute might be a bit boring for them but I read that there is a children's museum behind the Franklin Inst. Any good? We don't feel like driving anywhere since we got a free parking deal with the hotel so we're looking for activites in Center City. We're staying at the Loews (12th and Market).

Thanks

If anybody knows of any bus line that would leave the 30th station at sometime from Noon to 8pm on Fridays that would be great.(overall im trying to find the easiest way to get from Elizabethtown to Bethlehem for the weekends). thanks =]

Philadelphia Where to eat?
Posted: Tue July 31, 2007 10:41 AM UTC
Even though I'm somewhat familiar with Philly, esp. the Center City area, there is always more to learn. 6 of us are going to the Temple/Penn State game in November. Where do you suggest we eat after the game? The group we are with are not very adventurous, but enjoy Italian, Chicken, steak, etc. It would be nice if it wasn't overly crowded, and if possible in Philly, easy to park. Thanks and Peace, Joe

Philadelphia Special Events and Restaurants in Philadelphia?
Posted: Thu June 14, 2007 01:46 PM UTC
I am traveling to Philadelphia with a group of students from June 19-23. Do you know of any special events during that time?

From what I have read in this forum, the historical tour is a great thing to do.

I would also like to take the students out for one special meal. Any recommendations?

Thanks so much!

In Sept I'm going by train from NYC to DC.A friend suggested I leave early, get off at Philly, do the Independence Mall-historical sites gig and continue by train to DC.Can I get one ticket at Penn Stn NYC that will allow me to come and go as I wish on that day? Can I leave my luggage at 30th St stn at Philly? How far from the station to the historical district on foot and how long should I allow in the district before getting back to the train .I'd like to arrive in DC about 5.30 or so-perhaps a bit later but not in the dark.

Philadelphia HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted: Tue April 3, 2007 09:28 PM UTC
I decided, very spur of the moment, CRC in hand, that I needed a break. I've been to a few states in the US but never DC, PA or VA. So within two minutes I had booked flights to DC.

Hmmm, two weeks?!? A tad excessive!! But, OK, so i know the places I want to visit...DC (natch), Philly, Baltimore, Annapolis, Richmond and Williamsburg.

All fine - acc booked in DC and Richmond, BUT...didn't realise end of May everybody floods into Philly. Slight problem, can't find any accomodation (through the B&B Philly site) - the hostel looks awful so don't really want to stay there, even though hostels would be my first choice.

Anyway, I've gone the very long winded route of asking...can anyone suggest any good accomodation in the centre of Philly, I will be arriving by Amtrak and want to spend (ideally) no more than $100 a night. Somewhere walking distance from the train station (max 20 min walk/1 - 2 miles is what i class as walking distance).

I will be grateful for any help you can give and if there's any hints or tips you wish to share on the places that I will visit, then I will also be most grateful.

xx
