What part of Philadelphia is notorious for drugs and prostitution? Posted: Fri November 6, 2009 07:21 AM UTC
MY mother has been very sick for several years and she has been unable to travel or even enjoy the holidays. She had all of the cancer she had removed, and I want to take her on a trip up the east coast in a motorhome along with our 2 dogs. WE want to go into Philly for a day, and we will have our car so when we st up the r.v at a campground we can drive into the city. I have not been there in 35 years when I was only about 11. I was born in Md.I would like to know where the best areas are for a day trip and to get a couple of cheesesteaks. We will be travelling from around Feb.10 to March 10th. WE will go from S.C. to Vermont. Any useful ideas for a day trip into the historical part of the city would be appreciated.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays
Dave

Philadelphia hotels, transport and attractions Posted: Mon October 19, 2009 04:22 PM UTC
We will be visiting Philly in December , grateful if anyone can offer some tips on convenient and clean/comfortable hotels. We will be traveling from Baltimore, will spend 2 to 3 nights here before moving to NYC,we are looking especially for hotels with family suites. What are the things that first time visitors should not miss here? Any recommendation for good restaurants/eating places and local fares not to be missed. Will getting around by public transport be convenient? Or is there any hop on/hop off service for visitors? Thanks.

Can you visit for just one day Posted: Mon September 28, 2009 07:40 PM UTC
Hi everyone. I am planning a trip to NYC in January 2010. I would like to see a bit more than just NY City so it was suggested to me that Philadelphia was worth visiting as it is only a short train trip fom NY. I was wondering what your opinion is on a day trip or an overnight trip to your City and what are the must see's and do's. Bearing in mind it will be early January, what is the weather normally like then and is there any "no go" areas I need to know about?

Help getting around I476 bridge reconstruction Posted: Tue May 5, 2009 02:59 PM UTC
I will be traveling to Lewes, DE on Saturday and understand there is bridge reconstruction on I476 near the Schuykill Expressway exit. How can I get around this mess?
I will be traveling south on 476 (formerly known as the NE extension of the Turnpike)from Northeast Pa and usually take it straight through to I95 south.

Gino's VS. Pat's (Cheesesteak war???) Posted: Mon May 4, 2009 05:46 AM UTC
hello everyone,
we might be going on a foodie trip to Philly, and obviously cheesesteaks are on the menu. since I've heard about these two places as the best place to get one, will definitely try one from each to find out, but in your opinion which one has the best? Or maybe it could be neither one and it's another place... Oh no, am I starting a cheesesteak war??? also what other good eats is Philly known for?
thanks:)

Wissahickon Creek/Park Area Posted: Sat March 21, 2009 07:17 AM UTC
I hate to make two post but I just realized that the Wissahickon Creek area is very close to where I will be visiting while in Philly. I can walk there from where I will be staying and apparently it is a nice area! I am wondering what trails or things like that are the best in the area! Also - any suggestions for photography?

What to do in walking distance to Osborne St (near Fairmount Park)? Posted: Sat March 21, 2009 07:00 AM UTC
I will be in Philly for a little over a week staying at a friends house. I will be staying on Osborne Street but will be without a car. I am trying to find things to do to keep busy during the day. I see that it is close to Fairmount Park. I guess more or less I am wondering if there are any neat things to do that are close (walking distance) to this area. I am up for shopping (also, are there any good bead shops close?), hiking, nature type things... parks, etc.
Also... I might be able to be droped off somewhere to spend the day... with this in mind I was wondering what are some of the really great things to do in Fairmount Park? Keep in mind I love nature, hiking & photography!
Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help me out with this!

Location of The Four Seasons: A Bit Out of the Way? Posted: Wed March 11, 2009 12:06 AM UTC
I know that there is an endless debate over where to stay in Philadelphia- The Four Seasons or The Rittenhouse. Like with anything else both seem to have pros and con. Up until a day ago, I had settled on The Rittenhouse for room size and location. That is until The Four Seasons extended their 3 nights for the price of 2 promotion.
I'll be in Philadelphia for three nights in April. Easy access to the Kimmel Center is a must. I'm sure the Four Seasons is gorgeous, and I can live with the smaller rooms, but I'm really worried about the location. It sounds a bit remote. According to the concierge, it is at least a three block walk to anything. Public transport isn't really an option. I'd be dependent on foot, cab and hotel limo (provided it is available).
Any feedback on the location of The Four Seasons would be appreciated. Am I making this sound worse than it is? Or, is it doable? Many thanks!

Visiting Philly in May Posted: Sat March 7, 2009 09:26 PM UTC
My husband and I will be visiting philadelphia w/our 2yr old in May. We're not sure on renting a car or not.... is it better to rent a car and stay on the outskirts of the city to get a better price on hotels and drive in to take the city tours or are there some good family friendly hotels in the center of city?
We were also thinking about traveling to New York City for a day.... any tips or ideas on getting there??
Thanks in advance for any information!!

Lodging Info Posted: Tue February 17, 2009 04:27 AM UTC
I want to fly in, for the flower show. Been to Philadelphia before, but drove. As time is short, I'm flying in, it's cheaper than driving. If I stay near the airport, should I rent a car, or just take public transportation? I'll just be attending the Flower show, and going to Reading Terminal. As the flower show closes at 9:30, I'm concerned about public transportation, at night. I assume that the convention center has lots of public parking. I live near Detroit, so, I'm always aware of my surroundings. Thanks!!!

Help With Philadelphia 5 Star Hotel Posted: Sun January 11, 2009 11:58 PM UTC
I'm going to be in Philadelphia for a long weekend in May. Proximity to the Kimmel Center is key. I'm looking at luxury properties and have narrowed my choices to a Deluxe Room at The Rittenhouse or a Park Deluxe King at The Bellevue. I've read mixed reviews for both. "Tired" is a word that keeps coming up for both. Has anyone stayed at either recently? Also, how does the Ritz-Carlton compare. I get the impression the rooms are small. I've ruled out the Four Seasons based on location. Thanks!

This Friday evening Posted: Thu December 18, 2008 02:05 AM UTC
I am driving my kids to a concert in Camden, dropping them off at 6:00, and picking them up at 11:00.
Any offbeat suggestions in between? Anywhere I could catch some Flamenco, or Fado, or even Mariachi?
Or should I just go see Australia at the nearest multiplex?
