Philadelphia Help getting around I476 bridge reconstruction
Posted: Tue May 5, 2009 01:59 PM UTC
I will be traveling to Lewes, DE on Saturday and understand there is bridge reconstruction on I476 near the Schuykill Expressway exit. How can I get around this mess?

I will be traveling south on 476 (formerly known as the NE extension of the Turnpike)from Northeast Pa and usually take it straight through to I95 south.

Philadelphia Gino's VS. Pat's (Cheesesteak war???)
Posted: Mon May 4, 2009 04:46 AM UTC
hello everyone,

we might be going on a foodie trip to Philly, and obviously cheesesteaks are on the menu. since I've heard about these two places as the best place to get one, will definitely try one from each to find out, but in your opinion which one has the best? Or maybe it could be neither one and it's another place... Oh no, am I starting a cheesesteak war??? also what other good eats is Philly known for?
thanks:)

Philadelphia Wissahickon Creek/Park Area
Posted: Sat March 21, 2009 06:17 AM UTC
I hate to make two post but I just realized that the Wissahickon Creek area is very close to where I will be visiting while in Philly. I can walk there from where I will be staying and apparently it is a nice area! I am wondering what trails or things like that are the best in the area! Also - any suggestions for photography?

Philadelphia What to do in walking distance to Osborne St (near Fairmount Park)?
Posted: Sat March 21, 2009 06:00 AM UTC
I will be in Philly for a little over a week staying at a friends house. I will be staying on Osborne Street but will be without a car. I am trying to find things to do to keep busy during the day. I see that it is close to Fairmount Park. I guess more or less I am wondering if there are any neat things to do that are close (walking distance) to this area. I am up for shopping (also, are there any good bead shops close?), hiking, nature type things... parks, etc.

Also... I might be able to be droped off somewhere to spend the day... with this in mind I was wondering what are some of the really great things to do in Fairmount Park? Keep in mind I love nature, hiking & photography!

Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help me out with this!

Philadelphia Location of The Four Seasons: A Bit Out of the Way?
Posted: Tue March 10, 2009 11:06 PM UTC
I know that there is an endless debate over where to stay in Philadelphia- The Four Seasons or The Rittenhouse. Like with anything else both seem to have pros and con. Up until a day ago, I had settled on The Rittenhouse for room size and location. That is until The Four Seasons extended their 3 nights for the price of 2 promotion.

I'll be in Philadelphia for three nights in April. Easy access to the Kimmel Center is a must. I'm sure the Four Seasons is gorgeous, and I can live with the smaller rooms, but I'm really worried about the location. It sounds a bit remote. According to the concierge, it is at least a three block walk to anything. Public transport isn't really an option. I'd be dependent on foot, cab and hotel limo (provided it is available).

Any feedback on the location of The Four Seasons would be appreciated. Am I making this sound worse than it is? Or, is it doable? Many thanks!

My husband and I will be visiting philadelphia w/our 2yr old in May. We're not sure on renting a car or not.... is it better to rent a car and stay on the outskirts of the city to get a better price on hotels and drive in to take the city tours or are there some good family friendly hotels in the center of city?
We were also thinking about traveling to New York City for a day.... any tips or ideas on getting there??

Thanks in advance for any information!!

Philadelphia Lodging Info
Posted: Tue February 17, 2009 03:27 AM UTC
I want to fly in, for the flower show. Been to Philadelphia before, but drove. As time is short, I'm flying in, it's cheaper than driving. If I stay near the airport, should I rent a car, or just take public transportation? I'll just be attending the Flower show, and going to Reading Terminal. As the flower show closes at 9:30, I'm concerned about public transportation, at night. I assume that the convention center has lots of public parking. I live near Detroit, so, I'm always aware of my surroundings. Thanks!!!

Philadelphia Help With Philadelphia 5 Star Hotel
Posted: Sun January 11, 2009 10:58 PM UTC
I'm going to be in Philadelphia for a long weekend in May. Proximity to the Kimmel Center is key. I'm looking at luxury properties and have narrowed my choices to a Deluxe Room at The Rittenhouse or a Park Deluxe King at The Bellevue. I've read mixed reviews for both. "Tired" is a word that keeps coming up for both. Has anyone stayed at either recently? Also, how does the Ritz-Carlton compare. I get the impression the rooms are small. I've ruled out the Four Seasons based on location. Thanks!

Philadelphia This Friday evening
Posted: Thu December 18, 2008 01:05 AM UTC
I am driving my kids to a concert in Camden, dropping them off at 6:00, and picking them up at 11:00.

Any offbeat suggestions in between? Anywhere I could catch some Flamenco, or Fado, or even Mariachi?

Or should I just go see Australia at the nearest multiplex?

Philadelphia Where should I stay in Philadelphia??
Posted: Sat September 20, 2008 09:52 PM UTC
I'll be visting Philadelphia for a business trip at the conference center. All the hotels right around there seem to be booked (because I left it too late I guess.) I'm on a little bit of a budget. I'm female, not a complete rube, but will be by myself. I'd like to be able to walk to and from my hotel. I don't mind walking a mile or so. I've had warnings from friends that some neighborhoods near the downtown area aren't so safe. Are there some areas that I should avoid? Any hotels to recommend?

Philadelphia 4 hour layover
Posted: Wed September 3, 2008 11:41 PM UTC
I'll arrive at the airport on Nov. 16, 6am. Have a four hour layover. Trying to get a few ideas of something to do to kill the time. I won't have a car. Is there anything within a short walking distance to explore. I would imagine the fall colors are in full swing at that time. Perhaps a park close by I could walk to. Or is it best to just sit tight in the airport and avoid missing my flight. Any suggestions or ideas would be great. Thanks so much

Philadelphia Decent place convenient to the airport
Posted: Sun August 10, 2008 08:21 AM UTC
Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a small hotel/B&B from which I can reach the airport conveniently (I don't mind using subway or other public transportation). Airport hotels seem to cost $156 (ouch) per night, and I sure hope I can find something more reasonable than that. I'll be traveling in October.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

Philadelphia Just a 4 hour lunch stop in Philadelphia... where to stop, what to see ?
Posted: Sun July 20, 2008 01:30 PM UTC
Hi, on vacation in the US this summer, I will have a 4 hour stop in Philadelphia around lunch time. Where is the best place to stop, park, and which has a few restaurants to choose from and is near some interesting places to visit...? ..and what would be the top 2 or 3 things to see in this admittedly quick stop-over ? Thanks very much.

Philadelphia Philadelphia - How to get there?
Posted: Fri June 13, 2008 06:29 PM UTC
My husband and I are visiting Philadelphia for the first time at the end of July. I've done hours of research online to locate the perfect hotel. It seems we're better off staying in Center City rather than staying in a suburb and driving in everyday. However, before I make the final decision on a hotel, we are now trying to decide if we should take Amtrak instead. We're coming from Richmond, VA, so it would be easy for us to hop on the train and ride to Philadelphia. However, if we do that, I'm wondering if we'll have a hard time once we arrive getting from the station to our hotel. Keeping in mind I haven't yet bookd a hotel I have the following questions:

1. Are there acceptable hotels near the train station? And if so, do you know the names of those hotels or on which streets they are located?

2. If we don't stay near the train station, will it cost us an arm and a leg to take a taxi to a hotel in Center City?

3. How far is the train station from the tourist attractions? (i.e. Independence Hall, Liberty Bell, etc...)

I appreciate any advise/information that anyone can provide.

Thanks!

Philadelphia Where should I stay?
Posted: Sun June 8, 2008 08:27 AM UTC
My family and I are going to Philadelphia in August and we plan to stay 3 days. We will arrive driving a rented car. We actually know nothing about the city: can you help me with these questions?
1. Which area should I choose to find a hotel? Not very difficult to find, not very difficult to park, safe area, etc
2. Should I walk, drive or use public transport?
3. Any place to avoid (unsafe, "too for tourists only", etc)
Thanks in advance
