Toulouse Student looking for accomodation in Toulouse (Sep 2006)
Posted: Mon June 12, 2006 04:23 PM UTC
Hi all, really would love some good advices. I'm a student from Singapore who's gonna embark on my uni education in Toulouse. It's my first time in Toulouse, hence I'm totally clueless about this city. First of all, I've encountered numerous problems trying to find a house. Firstly, being an individual, I'm not entitled to CROUS houses, which are reserved for scholars or exchange students. Secondly, the school doesn't seem to be very helpful. I've emailed them asking for help in accomodation, what they gave me is a list of houses, which I've already known.

Searching through the list of houses, I called up a few potential agencies like PROMOLOGIS, replies were negative. First of all, PROMOLOGIS told me that reservation for sep 2006 only starts in July. I'm not sure if that's true, as I don't want to end up being late. I've also called another agency, who insist on me going down to Toulouse, checking out the room, and making the reservation in person, at their office. This is totally not possible, as I live in Singapore! That's like a 13 hours of flight plus 5 hours of train ride! And I do not have the extra money to do that. Moreover, I've explained to him regarding my current situation, and that I have to make a reservation in order to apply for a student visa. He doesn't seems to care about my current situation, and told me that booking a room through phone is impossible. Hence I guess this agency is not that friendly towards foreign students...

I'm having a real hard time finding a place to live in. I've emailed to numerous pple who have posted ads on the classified or apartarger.com, however none has replied.

What's more rediculous? I've tried to call up Les Recollets since last week, up till today, all I can get is a voice message which states that he's not available right now. When on earth will he be available then??? This totally spoils my image of Toulouse... Thinking this is only the beginning of the hardship which is yet to come...

Toulouse ANY ADVICE welcome please....how to find room rental or house-share in Toulouse...
Posted: Fri May 12, 2006 07:30 AM UTC
as per message below - I'm looking to rent a room in Toulouse for a few months from this Septmember and not really sure where to begin...

Does anyone know the procedure? Or where i could start looking for somewhere relatively cheap and safe etc?

i have heard that it can sometimes be difficult for Britsh students coming over who want to rent because i'd need a reference from a local resident? is this correct?

Toulouse Please help? flatshare/ room rentals in Toulouse town (Sept 06 - Jan 07)
Posted: Thu May 11, 2006 02:32 PM UTC
Hi there
I was hoping to get some advice on accomodation/room renting in Toulouse. I will be studying there for a few months (this Sept-Jan) and would LOVE to live somewhere in town (perhaps a flat share, for example) and experience real toulouse life, rather than spend my time living in student halls where vistors would be restricted etc.
Does anyone know where i could start looking? or will this be quite difficult to do (given that i'll be a british student coming over)?
ANY tips would be greatly appreciated!
Merci beaucoup!!

Toulouse Moving over .... soon?!?!
Posted: Sun March 19, 2006 11:06 PM UTC
My boyfriend who is from toulouse, is moving home again in the coming few months for business. I am going to give it ago, though i speak no french, after 7 years of learning it in school. He isn't a very organised guy, so am figuring when i get there am going to have to do everything myself, from sourcing property, find a french tutor, job, sign up with banks, docs, etc.
I would like someone to let me know more information about toulouse and moving there. Property, whats the chances of getting an apartment in toulouse itself? average cost? I heard you have to sign a 3 year lease, but can break contract for valid reasons? how easy is it to sign up with a bank? doctor? dentist? etc. whats the national health scheme like?
basically, i am an organiser and like to know everything before i do something. i have about 4-5 months to know toulouse bfore i even get there, so i feel seecure about going.
any help is much appreciated!!!!

Toulouse Toulouse to London Train
Posted: Sat January 21, 2006 12:36 PM UTC
Hello, We are going to be in Toulouse in April (from the US) and it looks like we may have a trip to London to visit family as part of the mix. Would someone be able to tell me the approximate travel time from Toulouse to London by train, the most likely route (connections etc.), and a rough idea of the cost? Also, I have been to the Eurail site but don't speak French (yet!) and am having a tough time navigating the site - any tips? Thanks! Tim

Toulouse Asian Shop
Posted: Wed January 4, 2006 09:50 AM UTC
Hello! I am looking for something very peculiar in Toulouse. I am looking for an asian shop that sells sake cups that have rude pictures in the bottom. I know this sounds strange, but the amusement factor of these cups is enough to warrant a search to buy some! I first experienced these cups at a restaurant in Agen a few days ago and was told they were very common and also that they could be purchased in a large city like Toulouse. These cups have blurred pictures at the bottom that only become focused when there is liquid in the cup. After it clears up, you will most likely be looking at a photo of a naked person. Believe me, it's shocking AND hilarious, which makes them absolutely spectacular.

So, if any of you know where to buy these cups or even if you can suggest a place you think might have them I would greatly appreciate it! Your help could provide me and my friends hours of drunken and enjoyable entertainment.

Toulouse Need a hotel in Toulouse for next week/Weather in the Dordogne
Posted: Sat September 10, 2005 02:27 PM UTC
Hello VT,

Oops ... some bad timing. I wonder if there's a special event in Toulouse next week because I can't find a budget room. I can only find the most expensive hotels on the internet. Can you help me with a suggestion for a one- or two-star hotel?

Also, can you tell me how the weather will be in the mountainous areas of the Dordogne in September?

Cheers,
