Portland Driving trip oregon to vancouver July 2010
Posted: Mon September 14, 2009 02:35 PM UTC
Hi. I have travelled by R.V from Calgary to Vancouver taking in all the fabulous scenery from mountains to coast including Vancouver Island. I am still hoping that there is more gorgeous scenery to discover on the west coast usa!My thoughts were to fly to Denver and travel by road to Vancouver but I am afraid of the distance to travel in 3 weeks and fear of the temperatures in the summer and altitude. So... how about a trip from Portland, Oregon up to Vancouver Island and then to mainland to fly home to UK? What I need is someone to tell me about scenic routes , best coastal areas, national park/forest areas of beauty along the way! Oh, it would be great to see some photos! We will be hiring an R.V and love to park up in National Park sites with hook ups occasionally! so any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!

Portland Tourist Attraction near I-5
Posted: Sun June 21, 2009 07:56 AM UTC
My family and I would be visiting a sister in San Jose this late July but in order to break the monotony of long driving from Vancouver, we intend to spend the night in a motel near I-5. I have two questions:

1. I think Portland is about 6 hours from Vancouver. What is the city/town
along 1-5 that is about 8 hours' drive from Vancouver?

2. Can you recommend a motel and a tourist attraction on this City (whatever city that is about 8 hrs' drive from Vancouver) that is near 1-5? how about some websites? Only my husband and my 18 year old kid would be travelling, so we prefer not to visit kiddie attractions...

Thanks.

Portland Portland to Seattle: How to commute daily on a budget?
Posted: Mon December 1, 2008 06:16 PM UTC
I currently live in southern California, I intend to move my family to Portland and, I have a great job opportunity in Seattle.

It looks like commuting between Portland and Seattle by car would be nerve-wracking, costly and a huge waste of family time.

Is their a commuter train or bus service between these two cities? Can someone tell me if their is a good, cost effective way to communte daily or perhaps weekly?

Portland early 20's Portland advice
Posted: Thu October 23, 2008 04:17 AM UTC
My friend and I will be spending a monday, tues, and wed in portland. We are both males aged 23 and 25. Just wondering if there is a go-to place on any of these nights. For example, monday night wing night at a bar, or tuesday night live music, or wednesday night beer specials. Any help of this sort would be greatly appreciated.
We have also drawn a blank so far on daytime activites. We live in Jackson hole, WY. That is a beautiful place with lots of outdoor activities. While we love advice about good hikes, we do those so frequently we were kinda looking for something different. Jackson is a small town of maybe 20,000. We are interested in some big city like attractions. Any help is appreciated greatly.

Portland Cool Hotel with great bar/lounge
Posted: Mon October 20, 2008 10:21 PM UTC
Heading up to Portland with some friends. We'd like to stay in a cool hotel that is near Pearl District and has a great, lively lobby bar. Anybody have any suggestions?

I was thinking of Hotel Lucia...thoughts? It would be ideal if the hotel that we stay in has a cool bar that people go to as a destination... does hotel lucia fit the bill?

Thanks a lot!

Portland Needing as much help as possible
Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 04:27 PM UTC
Hey everyone! My boyfriend and I are taking a trip to Portland OR in July (brew festival) We are both looking to relocate to Portland OR in the next year/year and 1/2. We are going to be in town for 10 days and we wanted some ideas of what we should check out before coming back to "dirty" Jersey! LOL
I know I want to see Cannon Beach, take a few scenic Byways and climb the tallest of the 3 sisters mountains, but we want to make sure that we see allot to make that final decision on the move. PLEASE help us figure it all out.
We are outdoors people that love, hiking, biking, micro brews, coffee shops, bohemian styles etc......

also if you can help - I have been looking into Hawthorne, and North Mississippi for a location to live on day SOON..... Any ideas on that area? I have a 5 year old who will need to be in a good school - but not looking for uptight areas????

sorry for sooo many questions - just excited to find the Perfect place to start my life over in PORTLAND

Portland Portland in May
Posted: Mon March 24, 2008 03:09 PM UTC
I found a great airfare in May so we are gonna spend the 13th thru the 20th in Portland.Couple of questions:

Weather: What should I expect?

Music: Can someone find me a good concert calender?Anybody good playing that week?I like Jam bands ( Phish,Disco Biscuits,Keller Williams,Allman Bros ,ect....Nothing heavier than Government Mule). What are some good (and relativly safe) Venues to look into?

Hotels: Cheap Clean Good location .A friend we're traveling with want to stay at the Jupiter Hotel. She's been there before-says it's OK.Any other suggestions in that section of town?

Food: I'll be visiting someone who's been there 10 years now but I don't want to depend on just his advice.Any suggestions-I like Pan-Asian But really my goal is just to not eat the same stuff I get at home. What's uniquely "Portland " food wise?

Special Events: Anything going on I shouldn't miss?

Thanks a bundle-C

Hi,

I will be driving up to Portland from Los Angeles in the first part of April. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on the best/most scenic route to take and once I'm there, what are some things to do in Portland. I have never been, so my knowledge of the city is very small.

Portland Debating moving to Portland?? Need some help.
Posted: Fri February 1, 2008 04:37 AM UTC
Hey everyone, one of my really good friends is moving to Portland and is begging me to go with her. However, she has never been and just plans on winging it. I'm not like that.. I need to check the place out before I decide to live there.. We are both in our early 20's and I'm looking to go to school in Portland.

Basically I would love local advice on a place to stay (hotel), the most important things to see/do in order to experience Portland.. the realistic stuff (not the whole fancy vacation things) in just a few days to really help me make a decision!

Thank you for your help!!

Portland Need your help in Oregon
Posted: Wed January 23, 2008 04:53 PM UTC
We are long retired, fairly well-travelled, and are finally ready to take our long-delayed tour of the parts of the U.S. we've never visited. Part of our 8000 mile, 5-6 week trip will take us from SF to Portland OR. I'm familiar with VT tips as I have read & written many over the years, but I still need help in discovering interesting stops in and between these 2 cities. You can check my homepage for our preferences and/or check our posting in the United States forum for our preliminary itinerary. We will be traveling the southernmost states first
