New York City Dinner or Tour Cruises
Posted: Wed May 7, 2008 11:55 PM UTC
Hi all,
I am taking my daughter to NYC in mid June and we'll be celebrating her 22nd birthday. I was thinking of a dinner cruise for one of our activities. Thoughts or suggestions? Also, in general, how are the tour boats and any suggestions on particular ones? Is it a worthwhile thing to do?

Thanks very much!

Hi Everyone,
I'm travelling to NY (for the 5th time!) for a week between 3rd-10th June, staying in the Upper East side. Are there any events going on in the city during this week, that would be great to visit?

Any suggestions would be very welcome,
Many Thanks,
Becca.

New York City How to get from LGA to Long Island City
Posted: Mon May 5, 2008 11:52 AM UTC
A friend and I are going to NYC for the first time. Our plane lands at LGA, but we're staying at the Comfort Inn in Long Island City. What is the best and cheapest way to get from the airport to the hotel?

I've done an online quote through SuperShuttle, and it would be about $64 dollars total ($32/person). Is this a reasonable fare? Might I find a cheaper rate through another source? How much might a taxi cost? My plane arrives at 5:40 PM, so I would be traveling to my hotel during a heavy traffic time, I presume.

Thank you in advance for all your help!

New York City Hostel vs. Hotels
Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 03:51 PM UTC
My family and are planning our first trip to NYC. It would be my husband, myself, and our kids ages 22,20,and 18. Would you recommend a hotel or hostel? We are trying to save money on where we stay so that we can stay longer and see more. We're open for anything. If anyone has opinions on certain hostels, we'd love to hear them.
Thanks,
Kel

New York City From La Guardia to Long Island Railroad
Posted: Fri May 2, 2008 05:45 AM UTC
I can't believe I have to ask this question as a born and raised New Yorker, but my situation has changed and my Dad is no longer around to pick me up at the airport. Anyway, how do I get from La Guardia to the Long Island railroad so I can get out to the Port Jefferson (Ronkonkoma) line? I know I can take an air train from JFK to the Jamaica LIRR station, but how do I accomplish something similar from LaGuardia?? Please help

New York City Broadway Play for Kids
Posted: Thu May 1, 2008 03:10 AM UTC
I'll be in NYC with my 9 year old at the end of the month. Other than the Disney plays, does anyone have a recommendation for a Broadway play that would be appropriate for a 9 year old. I'm also kicking around the idea of taking him to see Blue Man Group.

Thanks!

New York City Best place to stay for a family of 2 adults + 18 + 21 year old?
Posted: Mon April 28, 2008 10:05 PM UTC
We're a family of four (parents + two grown kids) that will travel to NYC in September for a week. We're looking for something along these lines:
* Price <$4000 (incl tax) for a week.
* On Manhattan, preferrably not above 80th street or so.
* Two bedrooms with separate beds for the kids in their room.
* Hotel, apartment, B&B, whatever, we're open to everything.
* Clean.

For that price we expect a little extra of some kind. Among those *could* be: spacious, charming, nice view, great location, doorman/concierge, two bathrooms, etc.

Thanks in advance, Peter & Helena

New York City Hostel security
Posted: Sun April 27, 2008 05:46 PM UTC
Hi! I'm going to visit New York in May and I'll be staying at the Central Park Hostel (19 West 103rd Street).

Apparently, it's a nice hostel, but I'll be sleeping in a 10-bed dorm surrounded by total strangers. So:

a) Do you know this hostel? What do you think of the place?

b) Are there any special precautions that I should take?

During our stay early July we want to visit Staten Island.
I already found information about the (free) ferry between Manhattan and Staten Island.

Would it be possible travelling by bus from Manhattan to the Ferry Terminal on Staten Island ??
- which bus(es) do we have to take ??
(we are staying in Chelsea - 318 West 20th Street)
- how long will the bus ride take ??

Thanks a lot

New York City Amtrak ticket (Newark - New York Penn Station)
Posted: Thu April 24, 2008 09:38 PM UTC
I read somewhere that the Newark - New York Amtrak train ticket is also valid for the air train at Newar Liberty Airport. This means you don't have to buy two tickets (Amtrak + air train), only one (Amtrak). Is this information correct? And how much does the Amtrak ticket cost? Thanks!

Hi,

I was wanting to stay in New York for a couple of weeks and I was wondering what would be the best option for accomodation as the prices especially in Manhattan are really expensive. I don't want to stay in a dormitory ot hostel, I would rather have my own room. Any suggestions would be much appreciated and I would be travelling from the UK.

Thanks

New York City Any vegetarian restaurants in NYC?
Posted: Wed April 23, 2008 06:32 AM UTC
Hi all,
I'll be planning a family trip to my first Aunt's place in Connecticut with my second and third aunt and a few of my cousin; and we are planning to spend a few days exploring NYC in Feb/Mar 09.

ALL my aunts are Vegetarian. Is there any vegetarian-friendly restaurants in NYC??

Their vegetarian conditions are:
* no meat (of course!)
* no animal by-products
* no onions
* no garlic
* OK to milk and eggs

Can help me here to give me some restaurant places so we can visit when we are there??
Not too expensive places please! (My home currency to US dollar is 1.65 to 1)
Do also provide me the restaurants' price range and maybe a few recommended vegetarian dishes if possible!! THANKS A LOT!!

Thanks all!

We have only 2 days in NYC. Would you recommend the City Sights NY Tour for $80 which allows you to "hop on hop off" a double decker bus for 2 days, and includes tickets to Liberty and Ellis Island, Top of the Rock or Empire State Building, and a night tour, etc.
