We're planning a return trip to NM that will probably have us in Santa Fe for 6 nights and Albuquerque for 3. We pretty much just flew in and out of Albuquerque last time so I'm doing a lot of reading about what to do while we're there - have decided for sure on Petroglyph NM, Sandia Tram, Acoma and a little R&R in Old Town and looking for more, if we can fit it in. What am I missing?

Was looking at booking the Clubhouse Inn as they have decent rates for big rooms, balconies (which we like) and are not too far from Old Town, museums, etc. but I read in another posting that Menual isn't a great area. How bad is it really? Any better suggestions?

No problem with an agenda for SF - will go back to Bandelier and Chaco for some hiking, an art cruise on Canyon Road, a day trip up to Taos, etc. Would be fun to hit some of the wineries I'm reading about in other posts! And I can't wait to do that drive over the mountains to Chaco again - that was a high point of the last trip!!!!

We'll be driving directly to SF the quick route, when we fly in, but would Turquoise Trail be a good route back to Albuquerque? We'll have time to putz a bit on that drive and we haven't been to Madrid yet.

I will be traveling at the beginning of march and am wondering what the weather is like, where to go for fun, i will have a rental, like wine tasting, like easy hikes, like nature.

What is the suburban extended stay like?

Is walking alone going to be a problem for me?

Thinking of seeing the Petroglyph Monument and was wondering if there's public transport that stops near the entrance and can I just waltz in? Also, is Sandia Peak easy to just walk from the Tram and putz around? Finally, does anyone know of any day tours from Albuquerque to Acoma or El Morro (can't really find any)?

i will be traveling to albuquerque alone for a weekend. i am not sure that i will have a rental so i want to know the best location to stay that is close to things.

do people do a lot of walking in abq or is it primarily a driving city?

i am staying at a holiday inn. which is better for me in terms of walking or taking public transportation to and fro? 10330 HOTEL AVE NE or 2500 MENAUL BOULEVARD?

We traveled on the Turquoise Trail and came across a Trading Post that I believe was located in Madrid. They had the most AMAZING Native American pottery and rugs I have ever seen. Much of it belonged to the owner and was not for sale. Can you tell me the name of it, if you know, and can they be located via internet? I have a couple of questions about a great pot I bought there and would like to try to find more by the same artist. Thank you for your help.

My boyfriend and I are moving to ABQ in September with our two dogs, beagle and pitt mix. We want to rent a house that allows dogs with a fenced yard, within a reasonable price range, yet close to UNM and nob hill area. is this realistic? are there particular neighborhoods where the landlords are more welcomign to pets? thanks!

Well, it's been more than a month since the last question was posted in our New Mexico forum .... and I think that's just TOO LONG! Any locals want to get up at the crack of dawn on Sunday morning to go ballooning? A friend/pilot is planning on going up, and nice, helpful folks are always appreciate. Come on ...... join in! Does anyone know if this is a good hotel for a one night stay? How is the location? It seems to have good reviews on another travel board but I can't find anything on this site. Thanks.

My husband and I are moving to Albuquerque this summer and are looking for a desirable place to live. To us that means walking/biking distance, 20 minutes or so, to:

-restaurants, health food and coffee shops, live music
-dog friendly, maybe a park
-preferably in an established area that's fairly safe - rather than the burbs

I know this is probably asking too much...

We will be working close to downtown and think that the east side would be better due to commuting. It seems online that the health food stores are all located on the east side of the river, is this true?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Can anyone tell me about area South of Central Ave, West of San Mateo Blvd, east of Carlisle Blvd and north of Zuni Blvd. Saw an ad for a newly remodeled condo there. Its hard to tell from the picture of outside, but it looks a little questionable? It is a safe area? Hello everyone! I am thinking to move to New Mexico from Germany. I will probrably come with a 16 year old boy and a 12 year old girl. I have looked at some of the schools thru the internet sites for Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, but of course, they dont talk about the quality of these schools.
Can anyone tell me which would be the best middle and high schools in Albuquerque? What about Rio Rancho? Are the schools there of high quality? Is it far to travel back and forth from RR to AB?? And does anyone know if RR has thier own interesting shopping and places to visit?
I enjoy reading the questions and informative answers here in this forum, and would be gratefull for any info.

Hello. I'm moving to Trumble Village (my friend gave me the neighborhood name, he's the landlord) in December of this year. I was wondering if anyone can give me any information about the area. He said it's low income, but that doesn't tell me much.

Is shopping accessible? Is it a safe neighborhood? Is there stuff to do for my 3 1/2 year old? Are job available (I'm a secretary and my husband is a computer dork)? Is it okay to walk around at night? Is there public transportation? Anything to be concerned about/ watch out for?

Hi, I am going to be relocating from the California Bay Area around Oct. I have heard that the bad areas are kind of scattered about all over the place so its hard to tell if one part of town is good or bad. I will not have a chance to visit before moving so I am looking for places online. I was hoping someone can provide me opinions on the following apartments and their locations please? I am interested in places close to shopping, and maybe a movie theatre or other entertainement. This is a lot of places I am interested in but if you could just pick a couple or tell me which ones to really avoid i would greatly appreciate the advice =)

I have a question regarding neighborhoods:
My parents and I are moving to ABQ in either August or September (06). My parents are retiring and I work from home as a writer, so being near employment is not a factor for us. We're going to be renting. We're looking for a new home (as I have allergies and sinus trouble and asthma and can't live where cats or smoke have been). We're also trying to find a home that has a mountain view, as the Sandias are so beautiful. We've checked Rio Rancho, but haven't had much luck there finding what we're looking for. There is a home right now that we are very interested in...it's in an area called Blossom Ridge at Anderson Hills in SW ABQ. I think it was built by DR Horton and is a lovely home. We're just very familiar with that neighborhood. Is there a lot of crime? Are there shopping and fitness facilities near by? We can't make a trip there to look at the home, and we are having to rent something strictly via the internet. We've neved lived in New Mexico, although I've always wanted to! I'm really looking forward to it...and hoping that the scorpions won't scare the skin off me! :)

Alright, we've all been to a new place and had a bad experience because we booked online at what appeared to be a "good side of town." Or maybe just me. But anyhow, what are some neighborhoods/districts, etc. to avoid? We'll be staying just one night in Albuquerque and be coming in front the east.

Any info is greatly appreciated, and the trip will be in the first or second week of July. If you have any ideas on stuff to do or places to eat, please feel free to share that as well, but please keep in mind that we'll only be there a day, perhaps two at the most.

I have seen many of the threads on this forum and there is some great information here. I dont mean to be redundant, but I couldn't really find a straight answer on this, when I was looking around, so I apologize. I have been offered a job in ABQ and I was wondering what areas are good to look for a home and where NOT to look for a home. We will be coming down to ABQ for a week to get a sense of the city. We have already been to SF a couple of times and really like it, but we have enver spent any time in ABQ. Also, my in-laws live in AZ, so we already have some idea of exsistence in the desert. Here is some basic info:

- I am coming from PA
- My wife and I dont have kids, but we might someday.
- we are what you'd condsider "upper-middle class" (i.e. not poor, but not wealthy either.)
- Both of us are artists and I am a musician, so culture is important, but not critical. I would say the most critical thing we are looking for is safety in our community, culture comes second.
- The job I would be taking is in the downtown area. I have a car, but if I could find something near public trans, that would be great!

Thanks for any info you can offer up would be most appreciated. We are not coming down to BUY just yet, just to look around, but if anyone has any suggestions of areas/neighborhoods that we should take a look at while we are there, it would make our time much better spent, I think.

Hello all...I've read your previous postings and it has helped me a lot. I have been searching online for an apartment to move into in August. I've used apartmentguide.com and it is very informative. I have been most interested in some beautiful apt. complexes in the northeast area of town. I've also researched that most of these areas are only between a ten or fifteen minute drive.
But, I would love to have the option of riding my bike to campus on pretty days. My question is, do you know of any scenic apartment complexes within biking distance of UNM's campus? I will be entering a masters program in landscape architecture, so outdoor scenery is important to me. Thanks for all your helpful advice.

I am moving to ABQ in June and I would like to live close to dirt jogging/biking trails. I would also love a mountain view. I am doing online apt, condo, and home searches and I was wondering which neighborhoods and streets you think I should look for? Also I will be working at the university, so do you think it would be too far to live near the mountains and commute? Thanks in advance!

Okay, I admit I'm not the sharpest crayon in the box some days, but after being unexpectedly diverted on my way home from the west side d/t Coor construction, I decided to just take Central all the way home. Being a local, I never tend to do this ... but what the heck!

So while driving along, enjoying the neon, and being careful of the cruisers ... I noticed something Downtown I hadn't noticed before - the New Mexico Holocaust & Intolerance Museum / Study Center. Right downtown .... between 4th and 5th.

The first thought in my head was ... "How long has this been here?" So, I'm gonna ask you guys .... How long has this been there? Have any of you been there yourself? Before you get all hot under the collar, I have checked our little corner of the internet, and no one has written any VT tips on it ...... so am I NOT the only one who hadn't noticed this place before?

Ooops. As a newcomer to VT, I posted my question as a reply to a similar question before seeing the place to post a new question. Please excuse me if you come across it elsewhere on the forum.
So... I am looking for a short-term (two months or less) rental that would allow my wife and I to bring our two rescued greyhounds with us.
They are very docile and well-behaved so Iwoul dhave notrouble providing a pet deposit.
We need a place with separate sleeping - hence most lofts would be a problem - while we search for more permanent housing in the Albuquerque area.
Any ideas or leads will be very appreciated.

I will be in Albuquerque in late June of 2006. I would like to see the mountains and other things associated with nature. Hiking and sightseeing.

My plan is to continue to the Grand Canyon and then into Utah form there. I will only have about 2 days or so in New Mexico.

I am planning a visit to Albuquerque and was considering staying at an Old Town hotel. How easy (and safe) is it to walk to the sights in Old Town and how far of a walk from the Sheraton Hotel in Albuquerque (former name)? Can you easilu (and safely) walk from Old Town sights to Downtown area? I hear there is a walking tour.
