Hi,
I'll be in Krakow in September and will want to go to a hairdresser. Can anyone recommend a good (preferably English speaking) hairdresser, not too expensive?
Thanks very much

Krakow Seat reservations on trains
Posted: Mon July 14, 2008 03:15 PM UTC
Hi. Just wondered if anyone could give me info on seat reservations on Polish trains. One of the trains I will be travelling on says seat reservations are mandatory so I should automatically be given a seat reservation ticket. Is this true? How do I get a seat reservation for the other trains (I will be travelling on POS trains)? I have written the details down for the trains as I know that most of the people working in the station don't speak English.
When travelling in Slovakia I bought a train ticket for a train in which seat reservations were apparently mandatory. The ticket did not contain a seat reservation so I had no seat for the first hour of the journey as the train was full. I don't want this happening again :(

Krakow Who has info on the "Apostle building"?
Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 09:51 PM UTC
I remember Gosia saying how proud the Poles were of this architecture and I took several photos of the building...which is stunning. However I don't have any exact info to include in my tip. For instance, is it used as a church? Does anyone know the age? I don't suppose there is a web site in English which I could go to, is there?

Posted: Wed June 25, 2008 06:30 PM UTC
Hi there fellow VTs,

I'm visiting Krakow in August (probably for 3 days, 8, 9 and 10) and from there I'd like to go to Cluj, Romania. The problem is that I can't seem to find good, solid info about the possibilities of transportation. So, can any of you help me out as you've done so many times in the past?

Many thanks in advance,

Krakow Train Ticket Costs-Buy in advance? Rail Pass?
Posted: Fri May 30, 2008 06:30 PM UTC
In July, we(2) will be travelling by train-Vienna-Budapest-Krakow-Prague-C.Krumlov-Vienna. Our concern is night train(Budapest to Krakow), then day train(Krakow to Prague). I have prices (with & without Pass) from RailEurope and PolRail, but many posts mention the cost would be less to buy tickets when we are there. However I am concerned that the Sleeper Berth for Two that we can reserve in advance from PolRail may not be available if we wait until just a few days in advance. Also the Krakow-Prague direct train we want departs early in morning so want to make sure we have a seat in advance. I am not able to get prices from countries own sites to see if worth waiting. Does anyone know the cost of those two trips if we buy at station a few days in advance? The European East Pass(2nd class) may be a better price, but difficult to compare. Thanks for any advice.

Going to Poland for the first time to celebrate my friends wedding. As a full time electric wheelchair user (can't stand or walk at all) I am a bit concerned about being able to "spend a penny". Anyone know if / where the accessible (disabled) toilets are in Krakow and Warsaw?

Krakow Back to Bulgaria
Posted: Mon May 26, 2008 12:01 PM UTC
I travelled by sleeper trains from Sofia to Belgrade then Budapest. then I caught the day train 9 hours to krakow (imagine sitting on a plane for 9 hours which I had to do also) now I want to return to Bulgaria without repeating this long journey again. Wizzair has no available flights from Krakow untill 26 june. returning on the train from Krakow to Budapest by sleeper is 78 euro!!!!WOW! There is a bus taking 8 hours (quoted) but leaves at 3 pm arriving in budapest at 11 pm (not a good time to try to get a bed for the night). I really have no desire to go back to Belgrade either. is there a train direct from Budapest to Sofia or any other cheap flights from Budapest to Sofia?.

Hi. Group of friends heading to the Tatras for some hiking on 1st of June. I'm just wondering if we can expect snow on the higher summits or not at this time of year. I want to avoid any areas with a lot of snow as we don't have crampons etc.

Krakow What tram from the Dworzec-Glowny station - what stop to Powisle Street?
Posted: Mon May 19, 2008 07:36 PM UTC
I am planning to take the train from the airport, then a tram to Powisle Street, but am not sure what is the best stop, if it's Wawel or it should be off other tram.

PREFERRED:

Any locals or gurus know the right stop to get the middle of Powisle Street?

ALTERNATE w/question:

I was also advised I could take the bus to the Cracovia and walk to Powisle from there. Looks like Focha (where the Cracovia is) turns into
Pilsudskiego, then turn right on Wenecja, left on Powisle -
is this correct? However it looks like I need to cross or go under a major road (Maril Konopnicki...) ... was told it was a 10 minute walk, but I'm *not* too crazy about walking under highways. Any comments on this second option, how long is the walk, and how safe is that area?

Thanks!

Krakow Buying tickets online to Prague
Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 07:42 AM UTC
I will be heading to Prague from Krakow this July. I want to take a night train and was wondering if there was a way to buy a ticket online on either the polish railways website or the czech railways website. If I am unable to buy the ticket, could someone let me know the cost of the night train from Krakow to Prague and how far in advance I would need to get the ticket.

Krakow Toilet business
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 11:53 PM UTC
I have read several tips about having change for using toilets in Krakow - I need to get a bit more specific ...

If I go to Wawel Castle - are there bathrooms easy to find? Sometimes I could be a bit more of a frequent flyer in the morning and need to know the scoop.

Any other tips on locating bathrooms and the type of change needed welcome!

Krakow Krakow airport to center of town (Powisle)
Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 02:29 AM UTC
I thought I had posted but cannot find the info. I have been looking thru the VT pages as well as http://www.krakow-info.com/airport.htm, and getting from the airport to Powisle Street:

The website above states "A single ticket costs an equivalent of under two euros. One can can purchase tickets on the train. It departs from a stop some 300 meters from the International Terminal T1 "

(1) is it pretty obvious to figure out where this train is?

(2) *** Is the station and train OK for a woman alone to hang out in, or would it be just better to take a taxi?

(3) Assuming I do take the train to Glowny Stacja PKP ... it looks like it will be around (give/take) 4 kilometers from my destination. Is it easy to catch a taxi from the Glowny Station?

Thanks!

Zakopane What time is the first cable car to Kasprowy Wierch? (Early July)
Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 09:09 PM UTC
Hello everyone,

I am planning to visit Zakopane for the third time in early July. My friend and I are cycling from Prague down to Austria and the Danube, through Vienna and Bratislava, into Hungary and up then up through the lower Slovakian Tatras.

When we get to Poland we would like to climb Rysy and also to traverse the Eagle Ridge (Orla Perc). I have done both but my friend is looking forward to the experience.

What we plan to do is to cycle from Slovakia to Morskie Oko, stay overnight in the mountain hut, climb Rysy and then cycle to Zakopane to spend the night there.

The following morning we would like to get an early start and catch the first cable car of the day. Does anyone know what time that will be? (Early July) Can anyone please give me a rough time to complete the ridge and descend back to Zakopane from Wlk. Woloszyn via Gasienicowa and Dolina Jaworzynka?

Alternatively we could cycle from Slovakia straight to Zakopane, stay the night, catch the cable car up to do the Eagle Ridge and then spend the night at Morskie Oko. Climb Rysy the next day and either walk back to Zakopane or use public transport from Morskie Oko.

Will the Mountain Hut at Morskie Oko be busy in early July? When are the Polish school holidays?

Can anyone recommend accommodation in Zakopane?

Any advise on our itinerary will be most welcome.

Thank you in advance

Regards
Coddy.
