I have a 5 hour layover in Charlotte, is it worth venturing out into the city centre? Can you get there by bus or public transit? Any tips or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Greetings. I will have a full day off in Charlotte before a shoot and would like to know where to get some interesting shots that would convey more of a southern feel. Will have a car and don't mind driving an hour or so out of Charlotte if recommended. Recommendations welcomed.

Thanks!

Want to visit Charlote, N.C. for an event at the convention center Aug 14-15. Looking for an inexpensive hotel with parking within reasonable walking/driving distance or along the trolly route. Don't want to stay in the Hilton- won't be in the room that much. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance-

I will be staying in Charlotte April 4 for 3 nights.
I will be renting a car for one day only and the other 2 days I won't have one.
What is a good neighbourhood to stay in that is "foot" friendly...i like to walk around and see things.
Or can someone recommend a good neighbourhood to stay in?

Charlotte Visiting Charlotte in March
Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 02:45 PM UTC
My husband will be headed to Charlotte in March for a business trip (entire week) and I was considering tagging along, but am curious as to what there is to see/visit in Charlotte. I know it's got a lot of southern charm, but what can I do all day while he is in meetings? I am 52, not really into shopping but do enjoy museums, concerts, local history. Also, what is the weather like in mid-March? I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Charlotte Charlotte to Dallas, Texas
Posted: Sun February 3, 2008 10:31 PM UTC
Would be grateful if any locals or fellow travellers could recommend various forms of transport between Charlotte NC and Dallas Tx. Timescale is not important, price is more so, but so is safety!
Train seems complicated, i.e via New Orleans, San Antonio etc.
Are Greyhounds generally considered safe?
Thanks

Charlotte Charlotte in November
Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 03:23 PM UTC
Will be coming to Charlotte in early November and want to know about the weather. I looked on the weather sites and it says it's going to be rather "brisk." Temps only getting in the mid 40's?? I guess I will need my winter coat. I did live in NC many years ago on the coast though and have never been to the "other side" of the state. Any places that are a must see? We will be staying in the Hickory area. I understand that is about an hour north of Charlotte. Looking for fabric stores too. Thanks for any suggestions.

Charlotte Verizon Amphitheatre
Posted: Wed May 9, 2007 06:45 AM UTC
I was wanting to attend the Aug 1, 2007 John Mayer show in Charlotte. The web ticket brokers have all the good seats at double and triple the Verizon Ticketmaster price. I just need one ticket. How is the seating view from around the different Verizon Amphitheatre sections before I pay double or triple for sections 1,2,and 3? Ticket brokers don't give you seat number just seat row and section. I long for the days when we could see the best bands in the world for under $10 and now you gotta spend $100. I feel sorry for today's music loving teens.

Charlotte Entry for Boomerang Bay in Carowinds amusement park
Posted: Tue May 1, 2007 02:26 PM UTC
Hi. Can anyone let me know if Boomerang Bay has a separate entry ticket, or is the price included in the entry ticket for Carowinds Amusement park.( The regular one-day ticket for the park costs around $40 per person). Does this 40$ include the entry for Boomerang Bay as well?
Thanks.

Charlotte Moving from Carrboro
Posted: Sun January 28, 2007 06:22 PM UTC
My partner and I are moving down to Charlotte in a few months. I grew up very near the Charlotte area, but I know it's changed a lot since I last lived there. We're moving from Carrboro, NC, which is a wonderful community right outside of Chapel Hill. The folks around here are very liberal and progressive, and the town is full of local merchants, farmer's markets, and organic food stores. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are areas of Charlotte that cater more towards progressive types?

Charlotte Jan/Feb 07 visit
Posted: Sun December 10, 2006 09:38 AM UTC
Hi all,

I will be visiting a friend in Charlotte in late Jan to late Feb from Sydney so I have a few random queries which I would appreciate any responses/input, etc.

1. What can I expect the weather to be like? Deathly cold or mild?
2. Recommendations for restaurants (Spanish, Japanese, European, Korean) - I'm quite open-minded and enjoy my food so will eat anything but grease
3. Bars/Clubs? - r'n'b, house, live bands
4. Is there yum cha anywhere? My friend said no so it would be great if I could find out otherwise.
5. Recommendations for good delis/bakeries as I'll be there for about a month so planning to do come cooking.
6. Can I get an ice cream cake anywhere? Or can you suggest a good place to purchase a cake from.
7. I am keen to purchase a Canon digital SLR whilst in the States. Can you suggest any good dealers/electronics stores you’ve had prior dealings with I should visit?

And any other tips, advice, suggestions and kind words would be equally appreciated.

Thanks.

Cheers !!

Charlotte Possible relocation o Charlotte from England
Posted: Thu April 20, 2006 12:44 PM UTC
Hi,

I am currently considering moving to Charlotte - any tips on what it would be like for someone in their mid twenties? I know that as a City there is not a lot going on with regards to history/culture - or so I have been told anyway... What is the nightlife like? House prices? General Attitude?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Charlotte Thinking of Moving to Charlotte
Posted: Thu March 2, 2006 03:05 PM UTC
My husband and I are looking to relocate to Charlotte from Buffalo, NY. From my research so far seems to show that Charlotte is a small city with an amazing amount of sprawl. If that is correct, traffic must be horrendous during rush hour -- is that true? Also we have 2 small boys so a good, safe neighborhood with good schools is a must. I have heard that the schools are overcrowded, and would like to know if this is also true? What is the job market like there? My husband is in the project management field and I will be finishing my teaching certification shortly and would be looking for a position in a high school teaching English. Last question - what neighborhoods should I be looking at? The housing seems pretty reasonable and we are looking to spend about 150K - 175K for a 3-4 bdrm. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Charlotte Lake Norman Rentals
Posted: Tue February 7, 2006 02:50 PM UTC
Hi -

I'm looking for some information (websites?) on Lake Norman area and possible vacation rentals for this summer. I'm planning a surprise weekend for my girlfriend and I, and Charlotte is one of our favorite cities!

What I would like to do is fly in on a Friday night, rent a cottage for 2 nights and then fly out Sunday night. Can anyone recommend a place to rent from for the weekend? Or another area around there that has similar options?

One other question - are their beach areas on Lake Norman, or I'm I dreaming that I saw photos of one somewhere?

Thanks for any info,

T.
