Saint Louis ST Louis for a week
Posted: Sun September 27, 2009 05:52 PM UTC
My husband will be staying in St Louis for a week in November, and I have the oppurtunity of coming along. He would be in a conference during the day, so I would be left to my own devices for a lot of the time. My question is, is St Louis an interesting place to have this much spare time in on one's own?

Saint Louis carving pic
Posted: Tue July 28, 2009 02:45 AM UTC
My friend told me about taking the tour of the brewery and said he saw a carving of a brewery worker on a cornerstone of the building. He says it was a man with a mug of beer in one hand and something to eat in the other. The thing that set it off was that the "worker" had the head of a rat, as he recalls. If anyone has a pic of this, I would appreciate seeing it and any info if a replica can be purchased.

Thanks

Saint Louis Suggestions for restaurant in the Hill section.
Posted: Thu July 9, 2009 10:06 PM UTC
Hi, I'm in still filling in the blanks of my connect-the-dots tour of the places in the USA which we have never visited before. St. Louis will be Days 25-27 on our way home to PA. For years I've heard about the Italian restaurants in The Hill section of StL and now I would appreciate specifics. We're looking for good, real Italian food that is not a pizzeria or chain, and is also not "exquisite" dining. Entrees between $20-$30 would be fine. Also, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that restaurants in the Hill are closed Sunday. The tips I've been getting from our VT friends around the country have kept me all pumped up in the planning. We expect to leave PA the week after Labor Day for a 5,000 drive. It's a good thing that my wife and I "play nice". Thanks, Irv

Saint Louis Maryland Hts to Earth city etc.
Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 10:57 AM UTC
Hello! I'll be in St Louis from August-September. I'll be staying in Maryland Heights and will be going to Earth City on a daily basis. How far is the travel time? And what's the best and most economical way to go back and forth?

Aside from BBQ and Budweiser, what other food places should I check out?
And lastly, is there a clean and decent lesbian bar in the area?
This is the first time I'm goin there and would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Saint Louis Suggestions for cheap/free parking for Busch Stadium?
Posted: Fri April 24, 2009 09:22 PM UTC
I'm already cringing from the $30 "cheap" ticket to attend the Rockies v. Cardinals game, but then another $15 to park?? Any suggestions for cheaper (or even FREE?) parking to attend the game? I'm a single female traveling alone, so it needs to be safe and close enough to the stadium so my being "directionally challenged" won't be an issue...

I've never been to St. Louis before and do not know the area, so I won't be offended if y'all tell me to suck it up and pay the $15. I'd just like to know my options here.

As always, THANK YOU in advance for your help!

Saint Louis Hotel Near the Arch
Posted: Fri July 25, 2008 07:32 PM UTC
Hi, my husband and I are planning a quick anniversary trip to the St Louis area in September. Is there a decent hotel that anyone would recommend under $100/night? We don't need fabulous service, but no where that I would fear my car being broken into. Looking for bar/restaurant; 24 hour desk service... pretty much 3 star but I know 2 star can be just as accommodating. We are willing to stay in suburbs as well...

Saint Louis is amtrak station area seedy? hotel to recommend?
Posted: Sun July 13, 2008 01:47 AM UTC
Some advice, please, on accommodations in St. Louis.
OUR ITINERARY:
We fly in to the airport late one evening. The next day we need a rental car. When we return the St.Louis, we need to return the car and get to a hotel and end up the next morning at the train station to complete our trip.

I'm traveling to St. Louis with a seven year old, and wonder if I should stay near the train station one night so that we can catch a train the next day. Is the area safe and pleasant? Any hotel recommendations?

Or perhaps I need a hotel which would shuttle us between airport and train station area. Ideas?

Thanks.

Saint Louis Transport from Union Station to Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Maryland Hts?
Posted: Wed April 30, 2008 01:58 PM UTC
Hi VTers,

I'm traveling to St. Louis for the Radiohead concert in 2 weeks (May 14th). I arrive on the Mega bus at Union Station at 2:30pm. Concert starts at 7pm, I'd like to be there around 6-6:30, so that's a 4-hour window to get from place to place (2 hours of which I'd like to use to eat somewhere near the terminal).

I've looked at the St. Louis Regional Transit website to figure out transportation from St. Louis Union Station to the amphitheatre (14141 Riverport Dr), but I can't make heads or tails out of it. I used the police dept's address in Maryland Hts as a terminus point because I wasn't able to just plug in any address, which is extremely frustrating. There are no directions of how to get to the amphitheatre itself or how far that walk might be. I'm thinking it's a few miles walk and I don't want to do that, especially at night when I return; would love to get straight to the venue, if possible.

These are the directions it gives me:
http://www.metrostlouis.org/
Take metro from Union Station to Police Dept in Maryland Hts, 212 Millwell Dr.

Take Metrolink West from Union Station Metrolink Station to Rock Road Metrolink Station. Depart 3:36 arrive 3:53pm.

Walk to Rock Road Loop to catch the MO Bus 33 and ride that to Shuetz Rd. at Dorset Rd. arrive 4:07pm. Walk from Shuetz Rd to Maryland Hts Police Dept.

Can someone tell me the best way to get from Union Station to the amphitheatre?
Could I take metro/subway and then a bus once inside Maryland Hts - or a cab?
If so, what's a good cab company in Maryland Hts or the website for the bus?
Would either stop in front of the concert venue?
Is it too far to just take a cab from St Louis to Maryland Heights? And back (at 11:30pm or so)?
And if so, I'm worried about getting from the amphitheatre back into town to catch the Mega bus at 1:15am. I'm thinking I have about a 2-hour window. Which *should* be plenty of time but you never know.

Also, is there any place safe to meander around or stay at late at night around Union Station or is Union Station itself open?

Thanks for all your help!

Saint Louis Revised question: Where to lunch in St. Louis?
Posted: Mon March 10, 2008 02:27 AM UTC
I posted before about BBQ in St. Louis. A friend of mine said that I was thinking of Kansas City. Duh! And I'm even from the midwest. Anyway, does anyone have a suggestion for where to get really good local food in St. Louis--somewhere that isn't a chain restaurant? Thanks for any tips!

Saint Louis Where do I get the best St. Louis BBQ in the city?

We'll be passing through Saint Louis next week on our way to Memphis, probably mid to late afternoon, with two kids. We want real, authentic, down-home, local BBQ. Who has the best that's not too far off I-55?

Thanks for any advice!

Saint Louis St Charles - what to do
Posted: Mon March 3, 2008 03:11 PM UTC
Heading into St Louis from Springfield and have heard good things about St Charles so I booked the Embassy suites there before flying out in the morning.

What to do there in the evening? Is a good area to walk around? I have seen most of the sites around St Louis so thought this would be worth a shot.

Thanks/ LMc

Saint Louis Need Missouri info
Posted: Wed January 23, 2008 04:34 PM UTC
We are long retired, fairly well-travelled, and are finally ready to take our long-delayed tour of the parts of the U.S. we've never visited. Part of our 8000 mile, 5-6 week trip will take us from St. Louis to Kansas City. I'm familiar with VT tips as I have read & written many over the years, but I still need help in discovering interesting stops in and between these 2 cities. You can check my homepage for our preferences and/or check our posting in the United States forum for our preliminary itinerary. We will be traveling the southernmost states forst.

Saint Louis Going to St. Louis this weekend, Last minute travel questions--Please Help! :)
Posted: Thu June 21, 2007 02:04 AM UTC
We will be driving to st. louis, Our hotel is at the riverfront near the arch. We have our car so we can drive to forest park, but was curious if it would be better to leave our car at the hotel and take public transportation to forest park, We are looking to spend an entire day there and late into the evening at the Muny. Also does anyone know of a place near forest park that we can park our car all day if we do drive, I know that many of the museums offer free parking. Are all of the museums and the zoo within walking distance of each other?
Thanks in advance if someone can help me

Saint Louis Vacation in St. Louis Area
Posted: Mon April 30, 2007 07:21 PM UTC
I am a travel writer for www.BransonAndBeyond.com and will be in the area for a full week at the end of May. I will be in town with my wife and 2 year old son.

I hope to cover the “biggies” in St. Louis like the Zoo and Science Center. But I do not want to miss any gems. Hoping some local can give me some great suggestions.

Also, looking to do a couple day trips that are within 1 hour of St. Louis. Any good insight?

We enjoy the tourist type stuff, but also like historical as well.

Saint Louis Saint Louis for a weekend, which area of town should I stay?
Posted: Mon April 23, 2007 11:40 AM UTC
My best friend and I are driving down to Saint Louis for a weekend at some point this summer (Only about a 5 hour drive for me) So we will have a car but want to know the best "neighborhood" to make hotel reservations.
Things we are interested in doing are stopping by the Arch for a quick ride to the top, taking a riverboat cruise, visiting the Botanical Gardens, and checking out the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.
On priceline if I bid a price it does not give the hotel listings but the areas to choose from. To have easy access to those activities and to be in a safe neighborhood, where should I stay?
The options are:
Downtown
Fenton-Kirkwood
Forest Park & Clayton
Hazelwood
Saint Charles
St. Louis Airport area
St. Louis South
St. Louis West
Westport

Please forgive me if this has already been answered, I have looked through the pages and did not see it.
Thanks for any help that you can provide!

Saint Louis Healthy Food

What are some good restaurants where you can get a healthy meal at??? I mean, places that actually serve veggies that aren't deep fried and that sort of thing. Maybe Vietnamese, Lebanese, seafood, stir fry, etc.

Anything in the Manchester Rd area?

Saint Louis Hotel near airport & parking
Posted: Fri September 22, 2006 01:48 PM UTC
Hello. I will be in St. Louis in a couple of weeks to stay one night and then fly-out for five nights and am looking for advice on two things...

*A nice hotel close to the airport that is safe and cleeeeaaaaan. Money is not a big object since my company is paying..

and

*The name of a very safe place to leave my vehicle (that I admittedly care quite a bit about and is not exactly cheap)...and I would PREFER a hotel that offers covered and/or gated/guarded parking for my car with free shuttle service to the airport.

OPINIONS PLEASE?! :) Thank You....
