We would lke to travel from Greenville to Baxter in July. Is this road passable with a car or do we need a 4wd. How long would it take to get to the park from Greenville. Any advice would be most appreciated.

I am traveling over 9 hours to climb Mt. Katahdin, (The last mountain in the Appalachian Trail) for a one day excursion. Does anyone know the restrictions for camping near the park gate? Has anyone ever tried it?
